One year to go...

Postby CryHavoc » Wed Dec 21, 2011 2:50 am

Today marks one year left of the prediction that the world will end on December 21, 2012.

If you knew you only had one year until the end of the world...

What would you do?

If I knew the world was ending I would have one huge year long party.
If it was the collapse of civilization I would keep doing the same I am doing now.

+0.75

If it's an end of the world, nothing survives, make the most of things. Maybe find my way to a nice beach to relax and watch it all fall apart.

If it's a ZPAW/collapse, it's time to kick the preps into overdrive.

Happy birthday, Drethos! Also;

One year to go, huh? Ok, I suppose I should try to retain a sense of normalcy, at least for the first 9 months or so. Mortgage has to be paid, power bill still has to be taken care of, lawn still has to be mowed. Maybe take a few extra dollars at the grocery and stock up on nonperishable supplies. Or perhaps spend a few bucks here and there on extra long term need, like water collectors, non-GMO seeds, often-replaced parts for weapons, critical equipment and vehicles. The occasional extra firearm purchase would be a good idea, too.

Oh wait, thats what I'm already doing.

And yes, I worry more about the "Condition-White individuals" going crazy and CAUSING a crisis, as opposed to some external influence bringing said crisis.

This is going to be a good thread, I can feel it.

(Edited to remove a widely used but still potentially offensive word. Even though the persons to whom it would reference really wouldnt be on a preparedness forum in the first place. But I do understand, my apologies)

"Sheep" really isn't an appropriate term to use on ZS, at least when you're using it in a derogatory manner to describe other people. Please don't do that.

Or did you mean actual sheep, in which case, yes, if they all went crazy at once we'd be in a world of hurt, particularly people in Wales and New Zealand.

I am always amused by the count down to various doomsday dates. I have actually lost count of the various date the world was to end.

That said I have question for all of you?
What makes you assume you will live for another year?
Seriously I doubt dooms day will occur in 2012, however that does not mean that any or all of us will live to see the new year much less a year from now.

You should assume this could be the last day of you life and enjoy it. I am not saying go run up a credit card bill or something silly like that but I am saying live a life that makes you happy.

Just my $.02.

the sheep could be dangerous. I'd imagine the Scots will be in for a world of hurt if the sheep get really mad. Maybe they should start with some foreplay now, to soften the blow?

Overall, you make a good point. To be frank, I don't make that assumption, nor do I think 2012 is the end. I was just playing the WWYD game, assuming (for the topic of discussion) the premise in the OP: If you knew you only had one year until the end of the world...

For me i will believe it when i see it. But it will be interesting to see what other ppl will do in the time leading up to the famous date.

I plan to just keep trying to get supplies built up for any emergency that might happen. I will still make sure my bills are paid, and i save enough for what ever little fun i want to enjoy.

As for the doomsday predictions. Well that will always be down to the person on how much they want to believe and how much they currently know and how they act on their choices. Some feel that its all going to be the end of the world and some say its just a changing of society. Some say it will be the end of time and some say the world will split in half. Maybe someone in the past just seen how we are being effected by the current banking problems in Europe and the world and how it effects the masses.

Ether way you look at it, i say keep an eye on the news and how ppl react. The year 2000 predictions where not taken seriously because it was more of a glitch with computers that most ppl knew would be fixed or would not have effected much. As for the Dec 21,2012. The date tends to be more looked at and most remembered by the masses. So things will be interesting closer to the date. For all we know other things might happen between now and then, but we will have to wait and see and deal with the problems as they accure.

I say dont worry about the ppl you know prepping for such predictions, I would be more worried for the masses that ether dont prepare, or deside to wait to the last min to get supplies creating a problem in the current supply system.

Like the old saying goes, prepare for the worst and hope for the best and enjoy things wile you can in the now.

Question: If the world is going to end...what are YOU going to be able to do about it...honestly?

That pretty much depends on what happens. If the banks crumble and we are thrown into another deperession, but because of the amount of ppl that might turn violent. Events might turn into a paw. I would bug in or bug out. If the planet is hit by a massive asteroid that wipes out all life, i would kiss my ass goodbye. Its all situational based on what the disaster is and the outcome. If there is a chance to survive i will try and take it. If i knew before hand that the world or society was ending on a certain date and what magnitude it will be, i would keep doing what im doing and stay out of other ppls way. I will try not to be in the path of others that are panicing or dont know what to do. I will try and deside whats best for me and my family like i have been with any disaster or emergency.

The "bucket list" answer is pretty much the only reasonable answer, in my view, to what is essentially an impossible question. We never KNOW for a fact when the end might come. "No one knows the hour or the day..." But if one did, obviously, you'd have that remaining, finite period of time to do all the stuff you wanted to do.

Funny thing, though: I know that I'll be dead in fifty years, give or take a few. So I'm already doing it, more or less. I make it a point to have some good adventures as often as possible. But yeah, sure, if I knew I was going to be taken out this year, as opposed to next, there are a few things I'd probably worry a little less about, like paying off student loans etc.

On said date: in a movie theater watching World War Z.
Afterwards: probably getting shitfaced.
