Worst places to be when TSHTF

So the state fair is in town and took the kids there the other day. And of course in the middle of having fun and seeing the attractions a thought occurred to me. There have been threads that discuss places where you would want to be when it all goes.south for what ever reason. What about places where you would not want to be. Just looking for different opinions. I tried searching for something like this and didn't find anything so if this is a duplicate thread I apologise.

Interesting topic, but what type of SHTF scenario are you talking about? Economic colapse, zombie apocolypse, some viral pandemic?

One of the places I would hate to be in any SHTF situation, would be Wal Mart.

Depending on what goes south, I'd say a hospital may be the worst place to be because the hospital may be ground zero.

In a zombie scenario, On a subway, train, airplane, or Cruiseship.
Or pretty much any large gathering of people in one place where you really dont have an option of escape.

Could be any situation. Wanted to just get peoples minds going. Like at the fair any situation that would create panic could be bad. All those people cheap barricade and only limited ways out spells trouble if there are zombies or even a riot. Just throwing a thought out there to see what could be run with it

There is going to be some build up to *most* End of the World/Apocalyptic type situations. Viral pandemics/zombie outbreaks don't just hit 100 million people across the world in one day. The end of the world most likely will not just happen all of the sudden. Even a worldwide nuclear event would have some pre-cursors. Thing like the Black Plague and genocides of entire peoples were localized apocalypses. Hell, the Spanish flu was a worldwide apocalypse; things just don't go bad overnight.
But let's say they do. The worst place to be would be, living on planet earth. Everything is going to suck for a loooooong fucking time. An event like that is going to send us back about 2000 years. The best and worst of humanity will be seen. Think of the worst thing that someone has done to you, the most disgusting and vile thing ever, the thing that you cannot find it in your heart to forgive them for, now imagine that that is happening all day to everyone on the planet 24 hours a day.
I don't think anyone can be prepared for that. I think most TSHTF scenarios are localized emergencies, either man made or natural. That's really what we're preparing for right?

For me it's when we are visiting family thats a 750 mile one way drive.

I hate to say it, and it's what i've thought about most...but i'd hate to be at work. That is, if this is something that happens in the blink of an eye. If it's something slow, I imagine I'd be at home when things got bad because i'd have decided to work remotely before things went south completely.

I work in a big office, with a lot of people. The parking lots would be useless, the roads out would be jammed. I'd be totally stuck.

My only consolation is that I drive at most about 10 minutes to get to work. I don't commute a very long distance at all, only 4 miles. Consider that walking those 4 miles would take nearly an hour in the best of circumstances, though.

Being stuck at work could be really bad when it all goes down.

At Wal-mart. On Black Friday. Everyone is already fighting and trampling eachother to death.. THEN the shit hits the fan...

This all depends on what crap hits the fan? if the dead rise Hospitals will be a bad place to be for sure.if it is riots city's will be bad. But over all when the SHTF there will be no true good place to be unless you have a good plain.

I travel for business on occasion, often to places I've not been to, and often in either rural or industrial areas (printing plants). For me that's the tough thing to deal with when disaster strikes. Usually I'm traveling light, obviously no weapons sharper than a spork and a Pantone book, dressed in my business casual combat gear and if I'm lucky, a mini bar in my hotel room to raid for provisions.

I try to do a little research into where I'm going, and to regional risks (tornados, floods, experimental germ warfare facilities ). But there's only so much I can do. I also worry about something happening at home when I'm away, say the big one hits or someone goes 9/11 on the golden gate bridge. It'd suck to be stuck in some small town in Oklahoma or New Hampshire when that went down and no planes in the air.

So I'm curious... Anyone else travel? What do you bring with you or do to be prepared for disaster?

Hospitals, Louisiana Super Dome, Interstate stuck in traffic, Any big box store or shopping center are the ones that come to my mind.

Besides what seems to be the norm for zombie movies to start any more (hospital) Walmart I could live with if it was zombies as I would run, run like hell, plenty people of walmart to end up as zed chow before me.

I think a Prison assuming I was an inmate and not a guard, starving to death in a cell hoping the guards open the doors before they bolt, screw that man.
