Welcome to the Zombie Squad forums, we're glad you've found us!

There's a lot to take in, so you may want to read various threads before posting for the first time (links to search are listed below). We also encourage you to search for existing threads before starting a new one; the question you want to ask may have already been asked and answered.

Here’s some information that might be useful to new forum members:

ZS Forum Guidelines:
Forum Rules - Check them out, they're short.
Take note of #1: No discussion of illegal activities.
Take note of #7: No debating of politics or religion.
Take note of the posts on "Oaf Patrol" and "Religious Tolerance"
Rule on discussing Lethal Force - Also short and to the point.
...the forum stickies are useful, too. :)

Some general ZS links that might be helpful:
About ZS - What is ZS? Do they think zombies are real? Are they a "militia" group?
Ask ZS forum - Helpful info like posting pics and common acronyms.
Forum FAQs - Quick answers about your account, profile, or posting.
Announcements forum - Great source for other policies and updates.
ZS Chapters – Look to see if there is a ZS Chapter near you to join for meetings & events.
ZS Meeting Room – Find ZS people near you to join for meet ups & events.
ZS Facebook - ZS Social Media pages

Additional helpful links :
Search - This feature will help you locate topics that have already been discussed, before starting a new thread.
ZS Hall of Fame! - Links to threads or posts that have been identified as exceptional by either the user community or the volunteers here.
Getting Started - Links to threads about getting started with prepping.
Persuading the Unprepared - Spouses, friends, family...
If you have, or someone you know has, girl parts:

NOTE: If you have problems accessing the Chapter Forums, try updating your User Groups first. To do so, go into your User Control Panel (top right of the screen), then click on User Groups (Left hand side of the screen) and select the Chapter you wish to join. Finally, at the bottom of the screen, next to "Join Selected", click Submit. If this doesn’t work, you can PM a Chapter Officer for access.

I'd love to see a few things added to the welcome wagon blurb.

Examples include:

  1. Look around and read some posts before diving in - get an understanding of the culture around here
  2. Search for existing threads on a topic before starting a new one - we've been around for a while and there's a good chance that what you want to ask about has been discussed in the past.

And there's a good chance that a new person can add to an already excellent thread. So much easier when everything is in one place.

But it'd be nice if people wouldn't blow other people a bunch of crap about being a 'necro' , or whatever other groovy-cool words are floating around, when someone picks up or comments on an old thread. Good topics never die (even in thread form)….they just get re-thought.

You make a fair point - You can't instruct people to look for older threads before creating a new one if you're going to scold them for resurrecting an old thread.

There's a phpbb plugin that lists threads of similar titles to one you're viewing. It might even find similar threads when you're going to create one. It's something we've thought about installing in the past and may do so in the future.

For a while I was purposely doing a Necro of the Week, searching for good old threads and bringing them back by adding to them.

I also am going to add a little blurb about how to join Chapters (updating Usergroups.)
Any other suggestions?
As I update the WW, I will add Updated (Date) to the Subject Line. That way everyone can make sure they have the latest and greatest!

Can anyone post these for the newcomers? Or do I have to have a super-special-invitation-of-awesomness to do so?

There is no special permission or license required to post the WW
However, I do ask that if you are posting the WW, please keep up to date on the latest versions.
I think we are good for now, but there have been revisions over the last couple of days.
As I make the changes, I update the original post and state the date/time changes were made on the Subject.
I also post a new comment to show that changes have been made.

To copy the latest version, just go up to my original post and hit 'quote' then copy it.

Enjoy and make sure to take care of all the new members we have joining us.
Let's show them just how great ZS is!

I've been watching the intro threads and seen a few. Go ahead and report them to the Mods for trolling (clicky the "!" button in their post). While I can appreciate that not everyone thinks it's the best way to welcome new people, it is ignorant to criticize it and then do absolutely nothing to provide anything useful themselves.

Thanks Airballad.
What I've done is PMd the OP to say my welcome wagon was sincere & is just a great way to get the feel of ZS.
Also that I'm still in many respects a noob myself :)
