I'd say so. 75% is passing on the ham tests. You missed it by one question. The General is a little more difficult as far as the electronics goes - for example, calculations of phase angles with AC. But still routine for someone with your background. The only thing that you will need to work on are things like the regulations, allowed frequencies, and so on. You already know the hard stuff.

Not to toot my own horn, but I'd recommend using the notes for the Tech and General license on my web site here. They will allow you to fill in the gaps quickly.

Doctor Jest:

Thanks a lot for all the helpful information! I am looking to join a local Ham Club in my AO and study to pass the Tech License and maybe the General. I appreciate all the information and hope to be posting more in this section of the forum.

Thanks a lot!

dont forget about the guides on the wiki, they have the exact test wording put into paragraphs explaining the material. I think if you have both of them it will be cake to pass. There are guides on the wiki for tech, general and extra.

I will. I just started getting into HAM radio but I have a Masters in Computer Engineering, so I doubt it will be too much different. =)

Also called your Morse Code PBX. Very nice =) Thanks a lot for that great service!

It seems to me the tech license is not hard. I took a practice test fromthis site and and missed 13 (you can only miss 9). I've not studied a single thing about radio, or electrical engineering and looked at no prep materials for the technician exam. I do know some physics which may have helped me on a couple questions, but most of the questions just have very obvious answers. So I'd say go to this site, take the tests over and over till you pass at around 90% and then get your tech license. Thats why I'm going to do.

I think it is time for me to bite the bullet. My mind is still in study gear from general securities licensing exams, so I might as well take one more test (and drag everyone in my household kicking and screaming along for the ride!)

The QRZ test link no longer works. That being said, I found something BETTER!

On the android OS, look for "Amateur Radio Exams 1.0 free!"

This lets me take practice tests while waiting for food in restaurants, or other tasks where I'm stuck waiting for something while I have my phone.

Looking forward to taking all the tests at the september local hamfest.

Good luck NoAm! You can do it. Make sure you try the General for the hell of it after you pass the Tech.

Thanks LtCmdLeia!
That's what I am thinking I might do. The Thursday night Tech classes are going to roll right into General Level Class.
I might as well, while I am at it

I figure I will have one more thing checked off my prep list & it gives me something else to offer for MRC/SMAT deployment.

Popular "wisdom" says that if you "ace", or just miss one or two on your tech, then you have about a 50/50 of passing the general. I'm not too sure about that. I aced my tech, took the general immediately and didn't pass... IIRC I missed about 10 on the general. But, a month of study and I went back ad passed the general, and eight more months got me my extra.

If this old fart can do it, anyone can. :D
