I'd just have joerg whip up something. Maybe borrow his machete launcher for starters.

.... a triceratops launcher....! Take this, you steenkin T-Rex! How do you like a Triceratops sticking out of your hide!
I have a dream: that one day ALL rifles will be judged by the content of their parts and construction, not by the color of their finish.

If dinosaurs are anything like cats a spray bottle should do it. I mean you might have to say "Bad T-rex!" and so on but they'll get the idea.

TheJurassic Park scenario poses some puzzles that would need to be solved. It has been a little while since I saw all the movies, so I'll base my answers off the original. So my main goal would be to get from point A to point B. Initially they had Wranglers for transport and were soon relegated to travel on foot. The way I see it your best bet is to try to avoid the largest predators... in theory, you should be able to hear a T-Rex or the like before they got close. That should allow time to avoid them in most cases. I think the people who fell prey to the small carnivores were pretty much idiots. Either shoot them or unsheath that machete and get to work... don't wander off alone. PERIOD. So I would have to agree based on what JP has taught us, the Velociraptor was probably the biggest threat. I'm gonna want something with serious power, sustainable fire, and realtively portable. The biggest risk will be well inside 50 yards. Based on this criteria, I don't want to be fishing around for the right type of ammo for the given critter. I want to pull the trigger and make it go away.

OK, I'll quit beating around the bush and list my pick.

I'll take an FN MK48. Add 2 or 3 belts of AP. Not the lightest rig on the planet, but I can't think of anything else that I'd want in this scenario...

Well, I suppose a Tunguska would be nice.

If Dinosaurs are like modern predetors then a few rounds in the air every should do the trick. Im guessing nothing from those times can match the auditory glory that a gun can produce. Sound=scary to most anything wild or not :). granted a 12 gauge with a flare shot could do more to scare off a T-rex, or at least distract Via Dr. Grant's flare ruse.

Can you imgaine the fear when a T-rex is charging your ass? try staying calm, collected, and shoot accurately under those conditions. Zombies give you the time to calm down. Dinos don't. being Able to thorw as much lead when needed is a Must. In the end Im with the Shot gun crowd. AA-12 with a Drum full of Slugs/Sabots. Also having Adaptable shells for varying conditions, and mega stopping power VS "smaller" dino's. Big or not 10 + Slugs to the face of T-rex/etc has to mean something

As for fake guns...well this would be fun :) unlimited ammo (unless in desert :( )

I would have to go with a Enfield .303 because has killed every large game on every continent. ( thats if i was with a group of people) if i was lone wolfing it i would go with psl or dragonov. Packs more punch than a .308 and ammo is cheap and gun is very reliable.

In the late 1800's (1895 if I remember right), there was a British explorer in Africa who shot a charging Elephant and dropped it dead with one foul shot from a .303 Martini-Henry through the eye.

It was also documented that a British engineer by the name of John Henry Patterson killed two man eating Lions with a Martini-Henry chambered in .303 in 1898, and a third Lion that he killed in a single shot prior to the man eaters.

Any of the big african calibers will take a T-rex. An elephant has a bigger, and denser bone structure than a T-rex (more like a bird) simply break the hip, and its down for the count. Smaller animals like the Raptors, would be handily taken by calibers like the 338.

I've got two double rifles, two 375's a 45-70 lever, and a 338 win mag. Any of them would be sufficient for just about any creature that has walked the face of the earth at any point.

Theres been a lot of debate and research done on the weight distrubution of the big rex. One school of thought being that it didn't run very fast, because if it fell, it wouldn't be able to cushion it's fall with it's tiny little arms, and would more likely kill itselt.

The size of real velociraptors are very different from the ones portryed in the movie. Even Deinonychus, which is a larger version, in the same family, comes up a bit short. The Dilophosaurus, which was portrayed quite small (possibly a young one) is more the size of what you see the raptors on screen as.

And I hope I'm not the only dino geek here that knows the story behind the Utahraptor...

Wouldn't happen to have a couple photo's handy would you?

I just absolutely LOVE double rifles, been chasing one for years but their price tag is what's kept me from acquiring one.

That's fine, but the scenario said Jurassic Park. Jurassic Park said velociraptors.

Small raptors.

FWIW, I expect that buckshot would still do bad things to the bigger raptors. So would 5.56x45, I imagine.

The clue is that he's only using the genus name. If he used the species name, the story would pretty much tell itself...

I would think that getting stuck in Jurassic Park in the fist place would be your own damn Vault. I want to see how many will get the joke.

Just a thought, but while guns may scare off most predators, the noise could eventually be associated with food. A smart(ish) dinosaur, upon hearing a gunshot, would most likely investigate. Assuming you were able to kill whatever you shot at, this smart(ish) dinosaur would find fresh meat. Eventually, this dinosaur may run towards the sound. Lions, for example, used to fear the sound of banging pots and pans. Now, they've learned to come running, as there may be an easy meal.

There's an unspoken belief among the users of this forum.
"That which was once dead should remain dead and should it once again walk the earth, duty decrees that it must be sent back from whence it came. Preferably in the most bad-ass way possible. "

I would assume this applies to dinosaurs.
