Alright, it's been a long time coming and I still have a few shortcomings, but here's my first Bug Out Bag. Keep in mind that this is also my camping pack and comes with me for firewood, so a couple of things might seem a little odd (3 pairs of earplugs, Hutch? Really?)
The bag is a large ALICE, with the Military Sleep System strapped to the bottom. I do have an Eureka Timberline 2 tent, but it hasn't been incorporated as the bivy system is already fairly heavy...we'll see how things go. I am fairly happy with the bag itself...it's difficult to organize the main compartment, but for $20 it does well enough. All things considered, I've accomplished my two goals with it: I -have- a bag, and I can identify what I do and don't like about it for when I decide to upgrade.
The MSS is attached with 550 cord tied through the plastic D rings on the carrier and the bottom holes on the ALICE frame. Just today I took two ALICE clips and clipped the strap guides of the carrier to the bottom webbing of the pack...but it's looking like that puts too much strain on the strap guides. we'll see. I have yet to camp with just the bivy...I'm hoping to attempt it soon.

The pack, loaded...I estimate 40-50 pounds, but need to find a scale.

Tools and equipment in my outer pockets:
-Gerber camp hatchet

-Water tablets
-Hand, Body, and Foot warmers

-Glow sticks, 4x

The lighter has been moved to EDC as well (was wondering where it had gone...)

A peak in the cook pot...

-1 Clif Bar, hidden deep so I don't eat it for fun
-1 Datrex 3 day bar
Annnnd some things to make life a little more enjoyable during the Breaking of The World. I think I need more tea, though.
I took a picture of my FAK, but I'm not posting it because as an EMT I'm slightly embarassed:
-2 Tourniquets
-1 ABD pad
-Misc. 4x4s
-Tape
-Nitrile gloves
-antiseptic wipes/iodine ampule
-Ibuprofen
-Benadryl
-Throat drops
-Spare contacts
Not pictured is my AR-15 with three spare mags. One of those mags will be with the BOB shortly. My rain poncho also seems to be missing....hmmm. I don't recall taking it out.
My thoughts, observations, and goals:
I need to improve my water carrying/processing capabilities. I'm going to go stuff a trash bag in my pack at least. I had a Klean Kanteen that was going to go in, but it's gone MIA. For backpacking, I just stuff my camelbak bladder in the main compartment....one of those side compartment add-ons might be in order. After that I need to work on the FAK, which is a bit woeful at the moment. I would like a few more 4x4s, at least two pressure dressings, some butterfly sutures, an occlusive dressing or three, some kerlix and at least one roll of koban.
I also need to procure two bandanas, for water gathering, slings, and their myriad other uses. Eventually a gas mask will be in order with a couple of filters, and I would like one of those Tyvek suits so I can have at least some protection in the event of a chemical emergency. I'm also in dire need of a compass, and I would like to have a shovel on there.
I'll have my CCW soon, so I'll have a more consistent form of protection that doesn't rely on my having my rifle at hand. I would like to get a slingshot, and I will be putting a fishing kit together this week as well. I also would like to have some sort of edible plants guide in there, though I'm -fairly- familiar with the dominant species in my area.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Anything missing that I'm not aware of?
