Its all good man, stuff happens, and family always comes first.

Do we want to shoot for a weekend, or perhaps a weeknight that everyone can make?

Weekends are almost always better for me, but I can pull off a weeknight if it turns out that way.

I'll be at the Pigeon Hill range Saturday 7/16/11 if anyone is intrested in punching a few targets. Its 25 minutes from the 435/I-29 split north toward St Joe. There is a 100 yard, 50 yard and 25 yard ranges. The target holders are orange snow fence, so cardboard and clips are a necessity.

Since it's supposed to be in the mid 90's I was thinking 9am or 10am. Finally got my aimpoint set up and just have to try it.

So, Alaska just made itself a chapter... it is nonsense that the KC area cannot get one together. Those guys have to get their sled dogs out of bed at 4 AM to make it to a chapter meeting at noon. And they do it all in the dark, because Alaska doesn't have sunlight for half the year. Sometimes they have to fight wolves to make a ZS meeting.

Its a lot easier to talk about making a chapter than actually doing it. Like before, I still have three people. I know we have had some interest, we just need to do this.

Roger that, KC. Myself and the other two members of my team will be headed out to do our Summer Mock Bugout this weekend, but I think we should try and get a meeting together soon. I think we have a line on a charity event that should be pretty awesome.

I was thinking of a Saturday, centered around a meal or drinks if possible.

Interested in meeting and charity event.

Saturday's sound good.

I think previous mtgs have been in Lawrence. Would that still be the plan?

If other locations need to be considered, I'd throw out OP. Or maybe halfway like Johnnies at 10 highway and S Ridgeview rd in Olathe.

Oddly enough, I am still very interested in this type of networking....hell, I think I was the one pushing for it a year ago.

To be brutally honest though, my industry has taken a BEATING (social worker) by the current regime in KS. So I am working 55 hour weeks and reserve weekends to be with my kids.

Due to the above I also had to sell my house and move into an apartment. We are ok and all, but I have very little time.

Please forgive me for disappearing.

I understand, things are rough all over. Having a network of like minded individuals could help. Its a possibility if we start having meetings that we could also have a Skype or other digital aspect? At the very least, we keep a log of the meeting notes.

I can arrange the ZS criteria of a charity event if needed.

I have connections to various shelters, food pantries, helping facilities for those living below povery level and an org for single mothers....and come to think of it an org for abused women.

I would think we just need to get together with the dontations and info, then set a date and time with the organization to present and par take in the charity work.

A couple are in Lawrence, KS....which seems like a decent meeting point.

Up to you all.

I cant spear head it or be one of the co-leaders of it all like I did a year or 2 ago....no ability or time...but I can get this part done if we got a few folk on board.

Roger that. All the help is appreciated, and I'm sure those folks you mentioned could use our help.

I am pretty sure I have a line on our first charity. It should be fun for all involved, and be a great event for everyone to get to know each other. www.pinupsforsoldiers.org is the organizations website. The KCMO chapter is doing a "Poker Run" on October 8th. Ill have my cohort get on here and give the information.

Im almost positive it should fall under the requirements for a future chapter's first event.

This gives us a solid date to start with. I figure we should have a meet and greet sometime soon, so we can bring in the new people and their ideas.

As I said before, I am in.

I was part of the original group that met in Lawrence half a dozen times and the participation was lacking due to the location IMHO. The events and charity should be focused on the population center which is the Greater KC area. If not then we will lose a lot of potential participants.

Assuming most of us are "gun people", I think a well planned shooting activity would draw people in. If the gun people brought enough "toys" and ammo for "non-gun people" to partake then we would get even more folks.

Suggested locations - Parma Woods, Lake City, Pioneer (need a member), Powder Creek.

Edit: I shoot at Powder Creek 3 or 4 times a month down at the cowboy range. I know cowboy shooting is a niche sport but they also have shotgun sports (trap, skeet, clays) and a nice covered deck for a cookout. A trap shoot with a burger and brat roast afterwards would be fun.

Roger that... guns and grilling sounds like an excellent way to meet those who are interested. The key to getting this going (I think) is that we set a schedule, and keep to it.

How does the 27th or 28th of this month sound? Shooting sounds good, or we can meet up for food and drinks.

Ok, for those of you wanting to know about the event for October 8th, it's a poker run. I'm the chairman of the Kansas City chapter of a volunteer-led non-profit organization called Pin Ups for Soldiers. We do events and fundraising and have an annual WWII style calendar that we sell with all the proceeds going towards care packages for troops overseas. We have 3 units that we're sponsoring right now and we're trying to get more. Believe it or not, there are troops that don't get care packages from home so our goal is to send care packages to those troops.
For our poker run on October 8th, I'm needing "security" at each of the stops. I don't know if anyone is familiar with what a poker run is, so I'll give a brief explanation. Ours will be starting and ending in Blue Springs. The first stop will be in Overland Park/Lenexa area, second in Leavenworth, third in Kearney and the fourth in Liberty. At each stop there will be an Event Girl handing out a poker card to each biker. When they get back to the stop point, they get their last card and when everyone is back, they look at their 'poker hand'. Whomever has the best hand gets a prize and whomever has the worst hand gets a prize. I'm not seeing us having a problem with the bikers, but I'd like to have a couple of guys at each of the stops in case someone at the bar decides they want to get a little grabby with one of my girls and they need to be reminded "politely" that they can keep their hands to themselves or they can have their hands removed.
This is going to be a fun event and really think that since it's for the troops, it should be valid for what the KC chapter whould need to do to get up and going. I mean, look at it like this, pin up girls, food, alcohol and music or organizing a blood drive for a first event.

The 28th is better for me.

I don't think I have anything going on the 28th. I should be able to make it out to a shoot.

I ride Harleys and may be up for helping out with the poker run as well.

That is excellent, Crashin!

What would be the best place to go shoot? I know of the Pidgeon Hill range up near St. Joe. Thats about the best place I know to shoot, as it is an unmanned range. If anybody has a better place, I would be all for it.

Dont think you have to have a gun to shoot. Anybody from ZS is welcome to take a turn on my guns. If you feel the need, you could bring ammo, but don't feel that you must.

Im looking forward to putting some names to faces.

Also, would anybody in the KC area be interested in CERT classes? I would like to get a rough number before I send the lady in the KC office an email.

Crashin, thanks for volunteering. It should be good times. I'm looking at getting everything sponsored to us, so hopefully all the food and drinks will be free. I'll get you more info on it when I have it. The run is on October 8th. Was there a stop that you had in mind workng at?
