CipherNameRaVeN suggested, I was just trying to point out why you're not going to hear as much chatter at a house near the Interstate as you would have in the past. On the road, there's still a fair amount of noise just because so many people are moving past each other. But if you're not near a major junction or a speed trap, you may not hear much standing still.
I have a couple CBs (more, if I can get them back from my brother), and a small pile of blister pack FRS/GMRS radios ready to roll if SHTF and central comms are out. I'd even like to get into HAM, but that's taking a back seat to other priorities. Being an IT/Networking/Telecomm guy by trade, I know exactly how fragile centralized systems are in certain scenarios.
