Desperately trying to set up a station here in Malaysia so I thought I'd stick my details down anyway, at least you can have a record since it *will* be set up someday! Here goes:

Grid: Since my station is not set up, I will give you the grid for my city: 3°8′51″N 101°41′36″E

Interest: everything ;-) But really I'd like to set up a proper fixed station and use it to help coordinate disaster efforts such as floods around the area as the communication systems out in the countryside are terrible.

License: None, the licensing agency does not respond to email etc but many stations still operate and I should be able to get a full class A license in the near future via them. Worst case scenario is getting a license in another country and transferring it.

Equipment: Looking to get a proper base station and antenna but it will not be operational for at least 8 months when I move house (stuck on the ground floor of a condo biulding right now). If someone could help with equipment that would be great, I have some idea of what I am doing.

Please do contact me for more details, I'd be very interested in setting up over here and since it'c going to happen anyway, may as well incorporated ZS into it and make full use of your experience.

Your latitude and longitude: +30.4,-086.6

Your particular interest: Pursuing a ham license.

Your equipment situation: I currently do not own any equipment. I would buy a handheld first, then maybe a mobile radio.

That's quite the radio if you can get it to RX and TX from 1800KHz to 10.50GHz...

Tech Class Ham, but will be taking my General and maybe Extra exams over the weekend.

I've got 2M and 70cm radios, at the moment (plus FRS, CB, etc.)

P.S. I'm sorry to bring this up, but I seem to recall that repeaters on CB or FRS frequencies are illegal under 47CFR (FCC Regs) Part 97.

I'm not currently up and running. I have a Yaesu 2M mobile that I am going to set up as a base unit (as soon as I get my J-pole setup). I am also looking to get a Yaesu FT-250R for portable use.

Location: EN91bi (Western Cleveland Ohio area for those who don't know the grid system)

License: General

Equipment: Yaesu FT 990, Standard C5608DA mobile (used as base), StandardC528A HT (used as a mobile), Icom T8A HT tri bander, TYT-UVF1 HT, 4 CB HTs, Cobra 148 and Uniden 640E SSB mobiles with a SBE Land Command Base (SSB). Assorted other gear and parts and antennas. Assorted GMRS and FRS HTs and one pair of Maxon 49-F5 49mhz radios for really close range!

I've been looking at checking out the ARES classes and RACES classes,, All emergency response training is good. Not having to use the training is even better.

Getting use to the 2meter repeaters and 70cm also. Playing just a little on 40 80 and 160 meters to see what they can do and loving it!
All I really wanted was to live a simpler life. The future I see coming at us like a freight train will be anything but a simple life after it hits!
