New S&W M&P .22LR pistol (NOT AR STYLE)

I did a search to see if this has been discussed, but it wouldn't let me search M&P or.22

Has anyone seen these? I wasn't aware of them til a couple weeks ago. Can't find a lot on them other than they are supposed to out soon. Several places have them listed, but not for sale yet. Supposedly same exact size, shape and functions of the other full size M&Ps. This would make the perfect practice gun on the cheap. My only worry is that I heard it is made by Walther. I sure hope it isn't buy Umarex, the same people that made the pot metal slide P22s, that have had less than stellar reviews. The slide on the M&P is supposedly machined aluminum. It does have a thumb safety, which my M&P does, I guess if yours doesn't have that option, you can just choose not to use it. What do you think? Somebody needs to buy one and tell me how much they like it.
Price looks to be about $350, kinda steep to me for a .22 But if it is good quality it would be worth it IMO.

I'm going to buy a .22LR slide for my Sig, so my trigger and controls are the same. If these are good, they might be a good option for those who shoot an M&P. But they are not relevant to my needs, personally.

I don't think its much of a training alternate. My biggest problem is proper grip and trigger pull, and getting the sights back on target. I can't train to get my sights back on target with something that has different recoil.

As for the rest, I can train that dry-firing my 9mm. Everything else requires me to train around the recoil of the 9mm... so a .22lr would be kinda bad and counter-productive, to me.

i find that if my grip and pull are correct, then the sights tend to fall back on target about as fast as i can shoot. at least with my 9s. maybe not perfect, but i think .22 training is benificial. i would welcome a 22 conversion for my guns.

I can understand where ya'll are coming from. My main thing is my current .22 pitol (beretta Neos) has a totally different feel from my M&P 9mm EDC. It would be nice to practice with something that is identical, only diff being the recoil. And it would be more fun to practice drawing the weapon, etc, and actually firing that just drying firing into snap caps.

I was mainly hoping someone here had fired/fondled one.

I have two M&Ps and consider them my primary handguns. I have thought of getting a P22 though I'm leaning more towards a real .22LR target pistol like a Ruger Mark II. I'll wait and see what the reviews say but I could see myself picking one of these up. I do agree that a lot of what needs to be practiced on the pistol is managing the recoil but there would be some value to having a .22 pistol.

I'm gonna have to see one and handle it first, but I have at least some interest. I'm betting the FCG is different from the MnP so that I won't be able to drop Apex parts in it. If other parts such as sights and the like will interchange, and if I don't have to get special holsters for it (not that I'd be paying for one, I just don't wanna wait forever for it to be given to me) then it could be useful for rainy day applications...because I would NEVER shoot this into a bullet stop indoors inside city limits. That would be illegal.

S&W just came to my range and did a demo day. This wasn't just a local gun shop bringing down their S&W offerings. I live in So. NH, about 2 hours from their HQ, and it was S&W corporate people who came the other weekend. They had everything from the S&W 500, their full line of ARs as well as their revolvers and semis. I asked around what they had for .22 offerings in a pistol and they showed me the P22 (Walther product distributed via S&W), 22A, 41, various revolvers but nothing about an M&P 22. I got home from the demo (having shot the M&P 45, M&P 40, M&P 15 and the S&W 500). I went on their corporate site to dig deeper into their AR platforms when I happened to come across the M&P 22. MSRP on the site is a steep $419. The write up is the generic M&P jargon - blah, blah blah.

I really wish I had known of the M&P 22 prior to the demo when I would have had the opportunity to inquire with corporate present. These guys were great about taking you through things about these guns that none of the local hack jobs would ever begin to wrap their heads around. I am also in search of a .22 to be used for training purposes. This is more so for my wife. She's a smaller individual and has handled the XDm 9 well in the past. However, she gets a little intimidated by it (big time recoil anticipation dip/eyes closed) and doesn't yet feel comfortable manipulating the controls. I'd like to get her into a .22 to start to dissuade some of these habits before they become ingrained.

I'll keep my eyes peeled at the local shop that was represented by S&W that day at the range and see what they have to say. If I hear/ see anything, I'll report back.

I spoke to some shop owners in NH regarding this last weekend. They dont have them yet, but expect to soon. UNfortunately, I live in MA, so they will have to be MA compliant (likely low cap mags and 300 safeties), so, I will not be able to own one for at LEAST 6 months. Sad, I live an hour away from them, and cannot get access to their stuff...

Oh, the M&P 22 is still vaporware from what I understand. They have a couple prototypes out, but nothing other than that. But what is this about the rimfire sp-101? That catches my interest. I've lusted after a S&W rimfire revolver, but they are so damn expensive.

Ruger just announced a new .22 revolver in the smaller SP-101 frame. They had one years ago, except this one has real adjustable sights, and an 8 shot cylinder. 4.3" half-lug barrel, with nice looking grips. G&A magazine did a write up on it in the lastest issue and loved it. It looks like a real winner, I want one.

This comes right after dropping the Single Ten .22, Ruger has reallllly been on a roll lately.

Currently, from S&W, MSRP is going to be $419.99. Until they crank out enough to keep up with expected demand...This is the same I paid for my 9...I may wait until the price drops

i Have fondled the M&P 22lr was very happy to hold it.. It was nice and light ,fit my hand real well. nice balance..
after short thoughts, i wanted one, the one i was playing with was sold, still waiting for the next one to arrive. it will be mine..
$360.00 didn't seem to bad.. so i check every week. They are spitting them out rather slowly. maybe to keep interest

I bought one from a friends store in Northern NH yesterday. $350 and he's drop shipping me two extra mags. Seems well built. i can post pictures and a review if people are interested and once I put some rounds through it.

got my s&w22 nice little shooter with 2 extra mags been trying different ammo brands some don't fire well, i ended up throwing lots away..
found some that fire everytime...just keep trying. The "blazer" ammo seemed to work best "CCI" lots of failures,can't remember the others

as for the safety trigger its just a plinker,, trigger doesn't bother me at all..
