Well Lexington seems to be ok. I don't even have any snow on my neighborhood road. Still coming!

I'm sorry weather prevented some of you from attending, but I hope you can make it next time.

Tribunal Power and Stab74 and I met and we have some tentative plans.

We're going to help the Bluegrass Domestic Violence Plan folks as originally discussed. They are a 501(c)(3) charity.
They serve 17 different counties in central Kentucky with a host of different services for victims of domestic violence and their families. Last year they helped about 10,000 people.

We decided to try to help them raise money for their "text to donate" program. If successful, they will be able to advertise and seek donations via text message--much like the Red Cross did after the Haiti Earthquake. They currently cannot do this, though. That's where we come in. If we can raise $1,200, they can use it to get the "text to donate" program up and running. This could be a big deal for these folks.

We're still sorting out how we're going to do this and I'll try to post more later.

We're still sorting out who our three "official" members will be for our club charter and will post that once it is finalized.

We're off to a good start and hope to see even more of you guys next time!

Yeah, the meeting was a pretty solid success imo. Thanks to the guys that came out! The weather got more harsh when I was driving home, but it wasn't too bad.

We'll get more details posted soon. The ball is officially rolling and we're making progress, and it makes my insides happy. :)

Glad the meet went well and hope everyone gets home safe. Sounds like a small gathering, who all made it?

Let us know and on this end we will put up links on all of our sites to begin getting some donations for Bluegrass Domestic Violence Plan. If the Ky Chapter can raise $800.00 I'll cover the last $400.00 if it will help to get the Chapter up and running, and help the DV people.

I can add links on the following sites to start once the system to accept donations is in place:
Glocktech.com
Buddhawest.com
CenturionSecurityAcademy.com
DaleHollowChiropractic.com

Also, since I own my own servers, if we need to put up a site/donations page I'll be happy to do that and absorb the cost.

Fucking weather!

Glad to hear the meet went well and things are on track.

$1200 is very doable. We may need to have multiple events to raise it, though.

The weather has gotten worse. Actually leaving the meetup I couldn't get into my car as my lock had frozen. Had to bum some steaming hot water from Tony Romas to get in. After the meeting I went to Jessamine County to visit my dad and by the time I left Nicholasville Rd had gotten a little hairy. Actually it wasn't even the roads so much as the shitty drivers. 5 mph? Really? Don't blame those of you living far away for not coming.

Anyway was a productive little meeting. Came up with some good ideas. Need to do some research before I post anything more informative.

I think 1/2 or 1/9 would be a good time. It's a Sunday, and it should be in the neighborhood of a month before the event. I think it would give us a good amount of time to finalize the details. What do you folks think?

I think January 2nd is a poor date, there are to many people still on travel. Once the 9th rolls in everyone has returned to normal life after the helladays.

We do however have a gun show that weekend in Louisville, and if the budding KY chapter wanted to " Bum Rush" the place I may be able to get passes for all that had ZS Id's, or those who would be willing to fly the ZS colors. I've been a vendor for this promoter for a long time now and might be able to pull a few strings.

Good point about the 2nd. And that sounds like a good idea worth considering, although it would be difficult to get things done while at a gun show... A bigger distraction there never was.

Most likely. Not for sure yet. That show is hit or miss, have worked it several times. With the changes in the gun market the last 6 months and dealer prices falling at an alarming rate, these gun shows, (Somerset in particular), has become a place mostly for the traders to give each other hand jobs. Public sales suffer at that show. Still in all, if there isn't a better show that weekend somewhere I will no doubt once again subject myself to the torture.

I had a conversation with a Shriner about fund-raising ideas. Here's what I got from the skull session:

We can increase profits if we can get some sponsors. If we can get twelve businesses to donate $100 for the right to advertise on event T-shirts, the only money we have to spend out of pocket is for the t-shirts and the printing. Make up something like 50 shirts saying something like: 2011 BDVP benefit on front, and a list of sponsors on the back, ZSers wear them to the event, and give out free shirts to all who come, or sell them for a decent price to cover the printing expense.

A scrap metal drive (I think I mentioned this before). This could be as simple as dropping a few trash cans off at local bars with signs asking patrons to dump their aluminum cans in them.

Advertising, advertising, advertising. I'm reasonably sure that I can get Z103 to advertise for us, even if it is letting a couple KY members talk about the upcoming event on the morning show. I've also been spreading the word locally (word of mouth) about the BDVP, and I already have a couple of folks who want to donate. We can also leaflet the hell out of a few areas. Advertising will make or break our event.

As to our next meeting, the second Sunday after 1 January is good for me, unless weather fucks me again.

Yeah, advertising is a must to get some poeple interested in this. These are all good ideas-- I especially like the t-shirt idea. I woudn't be opposed to pooling the moeny required for the shirts and whatnot, as I feel that may be a good way to weed out the dedicated from the wishy-washy, imo.

Also, the meeting being on the 9th seems suitable to me. Where should we meet? Jo-Beth's again, or a different location?

T-shirt concept is really good. Couple things back to these gun shows for a minute, we have shows in Louisville and Lexington all year. There is a show in LEX at Heratage Hall on the weekend of the 8th-9th. My suggestion is that we meet there. I can add an extra table to my setup and donate that to the ZS Chapter, we can setup there at the show and solicit donations, sell T-shirts, wear T-Shirts, had out flyers and brochures, and get some good public exposure. I'll need a confirmation on this by the 28th or so in order to add that table. This would also be a good op to talk with the promoter and possbile get a regular table (maybe even for free) since all money is for charity.

Also, for some future meetings, it's fine to meet some in Lexington but this really isn't a "Lexington" Chapter. I would respectfully submit that a place like E-Town is more central in the state for some people traveling in. There is a Shoneys right off the highway and we have used there room in the back for CCDW classes in the past. The manager are very group friendly. They have a large room, tables and chairs and of course food

Lexington is not very central located for the folks in Western or far southern KY. Mile for mile, E-town is near dead center state. Just a thought.

While it is true that Lexington isn't centrally located for our friends who live in Paducah, etc., and it may not be "centrally" located, geographically speaking, it is somewhat "centrally" located from a population perspective.

I only mention this because the only folks who have shown any interest in starting a chapter have been from the central, eastern or south-eastern parts of the state. I'm thinking of folks like darkaxel and Takaaco. I'd hate to move our meetings to a more "centralized" location, only to inconvenience folks like them who have shown an interest and to acommodate hypothetical folks from whom we have heard nothing.

(In the interest of full disclosure, I should admit my bias, as Lexington is convenient for me). I guess my point is: are there actually specific people we can identify who would actually show up if the rest of us were willing to drive a couple of extra hours west? Of the people who have participated so far, would an extra two hour drive be a deal breaker?

ETA: Glocktech, a quick Google Maps search shows me that E-Town would shave about 30 minutes off for you, so I do understand where you're coming from. Literally and figuratively.
