I treat any exposed metal with Permatex extend (http://www.acehardware.com/product/inde ... Id=1414920) and then you can go over it with primer, bondo or what ever.

As a man who had to trade in my 70 Firebird for a Focus Wagon.. I have to agree. Although I do have an old ranger. Unfortunately it's supposed to be my daily driver, not a project vehicle.

Awesome thread :) i know im late bumping but i was looking at your surface rust and was just curious as to how much of it you screw driver tested? Im a body man by trade and more often than not with surface rust like that you have "hidden holes" the best way to save yourself some headaches down the road is to pole EVERYWHERE you see surface rust with a screwdriver or inkpen. if it goes through, you gotta patch it. you would be suprised at what's solid and what isn't.

Few pinholes, but other than the front passenger/driver area of the floorpan, everything is really in excellent shape. Gonna do some work on it today.

How did I miss this thread!? That rusted out hulk is glorious!!

There's a special place for people who bring cool old trucks back to life. I'm not sure where, maybe the parts store, but its special nonetheless.

In that, is it gonna stay painted white, I realise it's gonna get covered in mud, blood and beer.

Great work you're doing on a great vehicle! Image

Don't give up on the engine casing, it should be repairable using what is known as the metal stitching method. I've seen some beautiful, permanent repairs carried out, using this method.

Here's some info'. Image

Pulled all six pistons... checked out the heads. Think the engine knock was due to the Hurricane swallowing a valve... then being put back together with the FUBAR'd piston. Pics when I find my camera.

Welp, I've got Herculiner, green scrubbies and SimpleGreen. Gonna get started on the Heep again. Feels good!

Also I'll be putting this thread back up/together soon. sadly, my images are still in the first 16 results fro "Willys Maverick" in Google, so I'm gonna need to figure out a way around that.

Primed the hood, sand blasted the grill (took three hours).

All I can think of is Dexter.
