Kelvar wrote:darkaxel, I've looked into this before. I'm pretty sure it goes like this:
If it is just a bar, not a restaurant, then you may not legally CCW even with a license.
If it is some other type of business, they can post a sign saying weapons are prohibited. My best recollection is that disregarding such a sign is not illegal, per se, but that private landowners may have you ejected as a trespasser if they learn that you are breaking their rules.
My advice would be to respect the wishes of the private landowner and vote with your feet if it offends you by taking your business elsewhere. I would not recommend disregarding such a sign, legal or not.
Lexington Green may have signs posted, I don't recall and I don't recall if I have ever CCW'd there.
Most restaurants do not have any signs addressing this, so it has never been a problem for me.
To be honest, I think it would be sort of silly if we allowed this to pose a problem for us. Worst case scenario, I can leave mine in my car. *shrug*
None of the above is legal advice, nor should it be construed as such.
Tribunal Power wrote:Not to play devil's advocate, Kelvar, but worst case scenario would be needing your gun AFTER you had to leave it in the car. That's why I don't make a habit of supporting such places; Murphy's Law is too prevelant.

I dunno about KY law, but in FL (as of 2004) and CA if more than 50% of a business' profits come from alcohol it's considered a "bar." So if your favorite restaurant is famous for its drinks that cost as much as an entree, it might not be legal to carry there.

Tribunal Power wrote:I will be calling them in the morning, by the way. Just curious as to whether or not this matters to anyone else? Or am I alone here (excluding Takaaco)? Just curious. In case I haven't made it clear, I'm fine with meeting there even if no guns are allowed. I won't like it, but I'll leave it in the car if necessary. No reason to get hung up on this if I'm the only one who really cares.

You can put be down as a member. I'll make it official in the next couple of days. I'm in Lexington btw.
For a concert, I know a member of 7 Years at Harvard, a Weezer tribute band. I can ask him if they would be interested in helping.

Ms. Thomas,
I'm a member of a charitable organization called Zombie Squad (http://www.zombiehunters.org). ZS is dedicated to helping communities deal with disasters, spread the word about disaster preparation and preparedness, and likes to work with local charities and organizations to help people who are disadvantaged in some way. Zombies are a metaphor for disaster (Floods, fires, hurricanes, etc.), and having to leave home because of abusive partner definately qualifies.
Zombie Squad has chapters all over the United States, and a few of us here in Kentucky are trying to start a Kentucky Chapter. To do so we need to host a benefit for a local charitiy. In short, we've agreed that the Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program is the best candidate. One of our members recommended your organization because he already has a relationship with you.
I personally understand the need for programs like yours. When I was a child, domestic violence touched my life profoundly, and my family had to use the services of a shelter. I would like to help. The ZS guys here in Kentucky would like to help. How can we help?
Matthew Bailey
Hello Matthew,
I am delighted that you and your organization had reached out to BDVP. I must admit I am intrigued by the Zombie Squad, how very important and interesting work. Do you all have meetings that I could attend and discuss your interest and ways to help BDVP? Or would you all be willing to come and visit us and find out what we are about and all we are doing. We are very open to support from our community partners who strive to keep families safe.
Let me know how we may begin, I need a little guidance because I am not familiar with what you have to achieve exactly.
Look forward to hearing back and creating a vision
Sincerely,
Darlene Thomas

Darlene,
We are planning a meeting at Joseph Beth Booksellers on December 12.
Right now we are trying to get together a benefit concert at a Lexington club, and spend the money on toys and things for your guests. If we can pull this off before Christmas, then things would be totally good, but if not, we could let your guests know that we are thinking of them beyond the holidays. That's really what I'd like guidance on. If we can't make it before Christmas, what could we do that would help your guests the most? I'll get back with you on an exact meeting date as soon as we get it nailed down,
Matthew Bailey

So, can we nail down the 12th as a meeting date? CCW issues aside, can we get together at Jo-Beth that day?
ETA: I'm looking at Dec 12 at around 3PM.

We CAN do this.

He also said he's the sound guy for Buster's http://www.bustersbb.com and they may available for a venue. They have done other charity events and he could probably get us in there. He may also be able to get us some other bands to play for cheap/free.
If we can nail down I date I can find out what's available for band(s) and venue.
Tribunal Power wrote:Great work! As far as the date is concerned, Dec. 19th would be great if we could make it happen so soon. It's the last Sunday before Christmas. That would give us one week from the date of our meet-up to put everything in motion.
If we can't make that happen, I would probably say it's best to wait until after New Years. I would say we should do it ON New Years, but the problem then becomes getting people to attend our event rather than some bitchin' party somewhere.
If I were you, I'd wait until mid January if you're planning on having it a bar. December around xmas is such a dead spot, it's much better when the kids get back in school. Plus, that gives you a lot more time to promote and get everything together.
11yah couldn't play before Dec, we haven't played since halloween and aren't planning to play until the new year. Welcome, Strangers should be good to go, though.
