Wintergeddon XI Jan 15th-17th - Bring your snivel gear.

Postby Seanwins » Tue Oct 05, 2010 5:46 pm

This year's location will be: Goodell Creek Campground near Marblemount, WA. Why? There is almost sure to be snow when we hit it up in January, it's open for Winter camping and the restrooms will be open as well. It's also likely to be unoccupied. How does January 15th - 17th work?

I don't know about trying for Mt. Rainier, but definitely someplace with guaranteed suckage.

Did my PM about Fred's idea make it to you?

As far as I'm concerned, we've picked the spot!

It'll be like Fear and Loathing with more guns!

I'm hoping I can make it this time, I'm also trying to scout out a location for a day hike around my BOL to invite people to. I'll see if I can check it out next week (on call this week, so can't go too far from home).

Just to make my potential Wintergeddon involvement clear:

Fuck a bunch of snow. Y'all have fun.

(But knowing me, I might show up anyways just to get out of the house.)

Can you just put it in your sig line? Something like, "I'm never coming to Wintergeddon. Ever." That way you wouldn't have to make this post every year.

I think you should come anyway, Nancy. :P

It is usually scheduled for the end of January. Still nice and cold and very Winter-ish.

This one I will make. It sounds good so far but igloo's are a pain to build and if you don't have the right type of snow they collapse on you.
Of course that wont happen because that would be helpful and/or convenient.

Check dates on OP.
In 2011, Jan 25 & 26 is a Mon and a Tues. Do you mean the 22nd & the 23rd?

also should we go longer like 21nd-23th (2 nights, 3 days)?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the 20 is closed just past Big B's house for most of the wintery season, so folks from the eastern half of the state will need to find an alternate route :?:

That would suck, if true, and it seems likely.

How many people are coming from eastern Washington? I think most of the active members live on the westside.

Maybe Big B can estimate winter accessibility from both directions.

When we were headed up last month, the signs are ready said "CLOSED". It WILL be an issue, they will have to come over I90 (or further South) and swing back up North.

We could carpool them up if they can get to Auburn at the I5/HWY 18 interchange.

The dates have been switched to the 15th-17th of January.

The 2 may be running then (you'll need chains, but it shouldn't be to bad) as it often doesn't close but for a real SHTF (Snow, hit the fan).

I couldn't really tell from the little bit from the site Sean, is this a hike in, or will we be ditching our rigs just out of bottle range?
