I was wondering about prices of small utility custom knives from friends in the knifemaking market, and was very surprised and happy when one of them offered me to give me his latest creation in exchange for some real world test and a full article(with pics) for both his blog and website. :D The explanation is that I have a blog myself(portuguese only so far... ) about survival and bushcraft that is becoming popular among trekkers here in Brazil, so it's good for both off us.

Needless to say I accepted and the little knife is being shipped to me this morning.

Some pictures for you to see(taken by the knifemaker):

The details: 18cm long, full tang, 3mm thick, 25mm wide. Forged from 5160 carbon steel, selective temper. paracord lanyard.

Can't wait to receive the little devil and put it to work side by side with my bowie.

I really like that little medallion inset into the scales. Looks like a functional little knife. 8)

My friend says it's a noble wood around here, but I'll ask him which one.

I'm sure it's an excellent blade, this guy is really good at this. Some day I'll post some of his work.

Looks really interesting. Some details make it a cross between a hunting and a bushcrafting knife. (in my taste that is.)
And there is the rivets and the intarsia! Is that common for a custom utility blade in Brazil?

Thx for the nice pics!

Very nice. What do I have to do to get one? :D

That depends on the costumer and also the bladesmith, but we do have some really beautifull knives made here.

Just as an exemple, look at the model PALEO from the same guy:

Well, normally, pay. :D

In my case, I got if for "free", with the promise that I will test it under all conditions a knife like this is supposed to work, and write an article about it. Good deal, right? 8)

 Paleo is the right name for that one, you would have to hunt dino, or at the very least be named Zeb McKahan to match the look of it!

Very nice knife your friend made. I like the mosaic pins. I made one once and got black glue all over the place. I can read Spanish but unfortunately not Portuguese. Thanks for sharing.

You get all the nice toys. Do want, for sure. Looks like a handy little knife. I like your bowie better.
