Bread Beckers store?

Postby Cavediver » Fri Jul 30, 2010 12:23 pm

Has anyone done business with Bread Beckers Inc? They've got a store font up I-575; they handle a bunch of grains and healthy food realated items.

My interest is that they sell wheat and other grains CO2 packed in pails (6g and 1g) or 2lb baggies for a very reasonable cost ($32.23 for a 45lb pail of hard white wheat). While Emergency Essentials offers similar pricing and a nominal shipping cost, they have a 200lb minimum order for superpails, plus they are shipped in containers with the Emergency Essentials logo plastered everywhere...

In addition to the good pricing, they also have a wider variety of grains than most mail-order businesses (Honeyville, Emergency essentials, etc).

For those that don't want to make the drive, they will also distribute through a co-op throughout the Southeast. http://info.breadbeckers.com/coops/ A $300 purchace can get you a 10% discount on qualified items.

Sooo... back to the original question: has anyone placed an order with these folks?

My wife and I made a run up to their store over the weekend. They have just about every type of grain you could want. Dozens of varieties of beans, grains, etc. All of them packed in 3lb sample sizes, 7lb (1gal) buckets, or 45lb (6gal) buckets. In addition to the edibles they have all kinds of kitchen appliances; grain mills, food processors, meat grinders (all three are availabe as electric or hand powered), on and on.

Prices: the prices on all of the grains met or beat anything I could find on the internet, even including the gas and time to drive from Buford to Woodstock and back. The staff gave me a some great recommendations for different grains beyond just hard wheat and pinto beans. We walked out of there with a large pail of oats (and an oat flaking attachment for our Family Grain Mill), more hard wheat, plus my first samplings of soft wheat, Kamut (?), spelt, buckwheat, corn, and lentils.

All in all, if you're anywhere near the top end of Atlanta and want to make whole grains part of your way of life, I highly recommend a trip to this store. If you're not within a reasonable drive time, do yourself a favor and take a look at the co-op info.
