Okay, trying to get this entry in before the original deadline, so this doesn't eat up any more of my time.
(Except that then I need to post the BoBs and the NEF Survivor handi-Rifle kit...)
Too many photos - sorry.
I hunted around to see what I had on hand for this challenge, and remembered that back when my wife still drank coffee, I had picked up a nice stainless steel french press coffee pot for camping.
I thought this would be much better than one of the cups that fits over a Nalgene bottle - could boil more than a liter at a time. And provides GREAT protection for the contents.

And the 1 L Nalgene JUST fits - for the first few inches. But it is so snug that at that point you've got a piston compressing the remaining air. If you worked long and hard, I think you could get it to the bottom, but getting it OUT again would be phenomenally difficult. Also, this was an old Nalgene - rumor has it that the new ones are slightly wider, so they wouldn't fit at all.
I thought about finding a set of shaping rollers and adding a slight crease or ridge running down from the spout, so that the air could escape, but low enough that the french press screen would still work.
Or drilling a hole near the bottom and welding on a vent tube on the side opposite the spout.
Decided these were both too extreme - especially after I realized that I had a couple of old Sierra Designs labeled Platypus 1 L bottles lying around.
By serendipity, AKA dumb luck, I spotted a deal at CVS Pharmacy. They have pocket sized J&J first aid kits in their "Sample size" section for $1.99. These are the white boxes in the photos. These are a great deal, with quite a good selection of contents for the price. But after getting several, I discovered that these fit perfectly inside the coffee pot, and you can stack two up in the center and still be below the lid of the Maxpedition Mini-RolyPoly that I am using as the 100 cubic inch container. And they are bigger than the Altoids tin.
So one of these boxes is loaded up with FAK and sewing kit, while the other has fire, light, tools, small items. Altoids tin has fishing kit and other items that didn't make it in elsewhere.

Maxpedition Mini-RolyPoly Dump Pouch with a small Velcro square I added to end of strap to fasten down "lid". Inelegant incompressible Platypus bottle nozzles sticking out. Princeton-Tec Pilot LED light on strap. (Includes flasher mode, and can be hand held or mounted on strap clip.)

Pouch back showing dual drawstrings and locks, webbing clip, MOLLE webbing over belt loop and above another big Velcro patch. I discovered that the Mtechneck knife will fit securely under the MOLLE webbing. We'll see if the Becker Necker fits there when it arrives next week.

Unpacking - Just above the Pilot LED is a stack consisting of the pot lid, knob removed, the sieve part of the French Press (bottom cover.sieve screen, upper cover and coil spring), and two coils of snare/repair wire - 10 feet of 1/32 in braided stainless steel, and 25 feet of 28 gauge galvanized steel wire.
Fishing lines are also in this stack. They show up in the photo of the fishing kit.
The stack of French Press components, snare/repair wires, fishing line all sit in the bottom of the pouch, with the coffeepot resting on top of them.
Stuffed in the coffeepot, visible from left to right is the neck knife and sheath, tarp/poncho, one of the white boxes (FAK - on top for quick access), Sawzall pruning blade (6 or 9 inch), LED headlamp. Yellow cord is there for extraction purposes, with pull loops. The lower level is pretty tightly packed.

The two water bottles and the ziploc with the several square feet of paper towel (TP alternative) are both inside the bag but outside the coffeepot, slide between the two.

The lower level pulled up - Altoid tin, white box (tools and fire), emergency bivy sack

The contents of the bag and pot arrayed - right to left, top to bottom:
60 feet paracord - acts as shoulder strap, double up twice to four strands, then monkey chained, clipped to full size carabiner, which is clipped to MOLLE loop on pouch.

Pruning saw made from a 9" Milwaukee Sawzall Pruning blade, the Milwaukee replacement fitting for these saws, the coffeepot handle, and a stainless steel hose clamp. Should work as well or better with the handle I am making. Probably use a through-bolt or a second hose clamp on the final version.
The 6 in. blade is a wood/plastic blade, works okay on wood, but not as well as the pruning blade (which has a tooth pattern which is very close to the fast cutting pruning saws I've worked with before).
------------
Okay - a couple of items that didn't make it into the photospreads.
Short regular thickness pencil
small brass wedge pencil sharpener
Set of spare 2016 batteries for all lights
The pencil and sharpener are multipurpose - pencil shavings are excellent tinder!
And the solid brass sharpener makes a perfectly acceptable chockstone (very close to a Choinard Stopper) and a passable wedge.
I can make firestarters from cordage or paper towel or bandage coated with neosporin, in a pinch.
Or add the small package of firestarter i have lying around.
There are some ranger bands that slide onto the pot handle.
I consider the button compass more of a back-up, and will include the pin-on AirGuide compass and P-38 (see photo below). I'm considering swapping out something to squeeze in the cheesy LED wand in the photo - pluses are that it runs for 200 hr, has TWO lights (front, back/wand) and a flasher mode, and can be tied to a string and whirled for signaling.

And I REALLY need to figure out how to fit the tiny vacuum packed brick of French Roast in there somehow.
Other possible swaps include losing the flat Esbit and fuel and using one of the little folding German copper stoves with 12 fuel tabs stashed inside, and squeezing the fishing kit where the Esbit fuel was stashed.
The bulkiest items were the Emergency bivy and the tarp/poncho. Considering swapping in the Heatsheet and some UL tarp/poncho, but feeling a might thrifty these days...
And while none of my firearms would fit this kit, the flare pen is a barely viable defensive weapon.
