You may have just built the ultimate kit (from my point of view, anyway)! Simple, functional and top notch gear. I don't know that I would want (or need) to change a thing, except maybe the pouch . I've got you on the front runner radar now *cough* w/ Necro */cough*

No kidding. I saw deed's a couple days ago and was like, damn, good luck topping that! One reason I respect your kit so much is that we have almost identical gear, even the RC-3 that you didn't put in the kit! Same platy, same Aquamira straw, same mirror, same knife. Awesome stuff, I must say. I really like that SOG Flash 2, it is one of my favorite knives.

I will try and get another submission, and see if I can tweak some stuff. I think I could do better than my current horse. My problem (can I even call it that?) is the lack of a small enough tarp...I don't think I am gonna cram my poncho in there.

The container is not as heavy as you might think, but it still feels stout. One cool thing about it is there is no seam, so I don't have to worry about it coming apart when it is heated. Plus it is non-lined stainless steel. I have not had a chance to use it on a fire yet though, but when I do I am going to write a review and compare it to my Titan kettle.

I've got the same coffee can in my BOB! you can hook a hanger into it easily and it cleans up well.

That's what I was using but when I put the "IMG" in my message, it came back saying that it "couldn't determine the size of the image". Any ideas?

I think there is a setting on Photobucket to resize images during upload to fit better on message boards. Maybe that is the problem?

This is my entry to the Zombie Squad Magazine Pouch Survival Kit Competition. I used an ATS Canteen Carrier as the base for my kit. Trying to keep true to the competition, I kept almost everything inside the Canteen Carrier with the exception of things I feel are tactically necessary to carry on the outside such as a red-lens light, a military lensatic compass, a signal whistle, a homemade rock sling and 50’ of braided 550 cord that is used as a sling to carry the kit.

Great piece of kit. I'd be interested in hearing about the decision process for the thermos. I can think of a couple reasons, but I'm curious none the less!

Part Two of the video added! (Didn't know there was a 10 minute limit on Photobucket!) Like I said in the video, I don't carry food as a consumable, but as a way to get more and better food. Catfish LOVE sardines! Once I catch a fish, I can make chum to draw in more fish!

I chose the Coleman Thermos to carry liquids because:

1. It fit the 101 sq inch limit.
2. It had a cute folding spoon.
3. It will keep liquids warm up to 8 hours in -10 F temps.
4. It fit the 101 sq inch limit!

Everything except what I took out of the Canteen Carrier (Sardine Tin, Beretta Pistol, Signal Mirror and Large Bic Lighter) fit in the thermos. Watch the video. In SF, I learned how to utilize all available space to its maximum value. I'll try to add a wire saw when I can find one.

I had spent weeks trying to get the plastic coating off the inside of a regular coffee can and was about to give up when my girl wanted me to go to target with her to get a kitchen knife. When I saw the can, it practically had a glowing halo around it. Just dumb luck I came across it. A nalgene bottle nests right in there also.

I need to get around to getting some pics of the gear. Im a fan of DIY.

You can have the girlfriend take you over to the nail polish section and get you a bottle of 100% acetone. This is the industrial strength nail polish remover and it will take just about anything off of anything. Just be REALLY careful with plastics! You might not have anything left!

The thermos is a Coleman with the screw-on cup removed and the pot is the the smaller of two Coleman backpacking pots that I had. The smaller pot just happened to fit the thermos with the cup removed!
