I've been a technician for the past 5 years or so. I have never had the money to get a radio but plan on getting one soon. Guess that would make me a pretty lame ham radio operator by normal standards. I plan to study and take the higher-level tests in the near future.

Hm, I thought I had already posted in this thread, but a quick search reveals otherwise. Well here goes:

Lat & Long: 36.8, -76.2
Interest: I'm a general class (KI4S**) licensee. I like local VHF stuff and of course HF as well. My main interest on HF is digital, but I do a fair amount of SSB.
Equipment: Home station is a Yaesu FT-857D with LDG Z-11 Pro tuner and Signalink USB, and a G5RV "Jr" for HF with a homebrew aluminum J-pole for VHF/UHF. I'm good on 60m-70cm, and sometimes the tuner will even let me do 75m, though I'm not sure any signal is actually radiating after that match  I've also got an Icom IC-751 as a backup HF rig, and the provisions to hook that up to the Signalink for digital. In the truck is an Icom V8000 with NMO mounted SBB5. I've got a VX-7R that needs to be sent in to Vertex USA for some non-warranty repair work when I can spare the dough. I think that about covers it.

2 vehicle mounted Cobra 29s but I have had them tricked out as much as possible. I get about 10 miles average.
a trunking scanner. need to figure it out for effective use. Any tips would be appreciated.
4- 70 mile GRMS handhelds
mounted and portable marine radios

Need channels and freqs to monitor. Please PM me.

Interests: DXing, Satteliting, local comms

Current Situation: I am in the process of studying for my Foundation license which allows me Restricted use (AM,CW,SSB and FM) on 80m,40m,15m,10m,2m,70cm.
Comms ATM are a 27mhz CB and a 477mhz CB mobile (both 5w which is the maximum allowed for CB here in oz)
once i get my license i'll most likley get a yaesu ft857d seems to be a good unit as it must be a mobile capable unit

Postby Rosco-p-c » Fri Jun 11, 2010 11:01 pm

Location: Long/lat -72.3/41.3 East Hampton, Connecticut

Interests: The proliferation of low-cost short-range comm. [When disaster strikes, I want to talk to people 1-3 miles away that I can help or get help from… not somebody 100 miles away that I can’t walk to.]

Situation: I have a CB in my truck and in my Jeep. I’d pop for a base setup in a heartbeat if there were more people to network with. I’ve studied for the Amateur exam, but I can’t get excited enough about it to go and take it. Ten times more people can afford CB’s than can afford HAM setups. Is it better to have four people talking fifty miles or forty people talking five miles? No doubt both are important, but I see more immediate ER value in the common man’s comm.
Do not demand that which you cannot take by force.

Section: South Carolina (Beaufort/Paris Island)
Lat./Long: 32.6 -80.7
Interest: I do not have a ham license, but I'm studying for a test that will be given in july (with help from my fiance, isn't she great? Colored flash cards and all! ) I just bought a CB Radio (at wally world until i can afford a good one) to get my feet in the water and help me maintain interest  I'm very interested in getting serious in ham though once i get a license. If anyone's in the beaufort area that's a ham or can answer some questions about my CB or wanna talk hit me up!
Equipment: CB radio installed in truck last night, It's that cheap "cobra" you can get at wall mart for like 37 bucks. Antenna from radio shack (magnet on top of truck.) I get some noise when the truck is running driving around town, i can hear talk as long as its got a good signal, but hear much better with truck turned off. Normal?

Hoping the ZS Radio Network does well and lives long!
