I guess mine was a part of that batch

Guys, I just want to say that Kary's customer service is amazing. On Sunday, I emailed him at around 10PM with an order for a cobra belt. Within 15 minutes I got a reply, and 30 after that a paypal slip. The belt was finished, and shipped on MONDAY. He built the belt and shipped it in under 24 hours  . Again, you are the best, I cant wait to wear it this weekend at a Federal CBRNE class Im attending

Hi, I just have a quick question.
Its clearly obvious on some of the Rigger Belts where to attach a rope or safety line.
I have the same belt as user mikezq8ss but in OD Green. Where do I attach my Carabiner? On the buckle? On the Belt? Or do I just need to buy the other version of the belt?
Thanks David

I basically build three versions of the cobra rigger belt, one of which is the cobra gun belt which is without the attachment ring, I build that one for those who need just the belt without the attachment ring, who just need the stiff belt to serve as a stable platform for thigh rigs, etc. I still call them a riggers belt because that is kind of the industry standard, I actually call them the cobra gun belt

I then make the Riggers belt with attachment ring, these have remained popular for years with search and rescue crews, law enforcement. I built mine stiff so that they will serve dual purpose for a gun platform or an attachment point.

My cadillac model is the one I call the ERB , extended riggers belt, which the attachment point is on a doubled over 4" tab, I have built quite a few for German and Austrian SWAT teams. These are designed for those wearing a chest rig/body armor. By placing the attachment point away from the belt, it is visible while wearing gear. Without a visual point to clip into it is easy to clip into something that isnt full strength, like your belt loop. Place your self in worst case deal, raining cold, numb fingers, sleep deprived, you could easily make the mistake.

One thing I always try impress upon people is that no government or military body recognizes the use of a rigger belt as an acceptable attachment method.
As for the Riggers belt with the attachment point, sometimes you will hear the belts referred to as a back up belt, this comes from a time when guys would tie their own swiss seat harnesses (anyone who has every worn one knows they can become uncomfortable and when made from 1" tubular webbing over time it will sag like an old diaper), so the users would clip into a belt as a back up. The big companies have pushed this idea while we live in a era of the modern harnesses that will hold up cars.
Given that I do know having something to clip into just to stabilize yourself, they are a standard with SWAT teams and some military groups, the coyote brown belt pictured above will going Afghanistan in a few weeks.

The history of the riggers belt goes back to a time when the military first started having parachute riggers, parachute riggers would build belts for themselves from parachute harness webbing and spare buckles. They became recognized as a symbol of pride for their tradecraft. A friend of mine who was a Marine Corps parachute Rigger during OIF, wore his riggers belt ( like my smokejumper belt, single layer and very simple) under his Class A uniform as did the rest of his guys in his unit again as way of showing pride. They of course did this secretly. So if you were friends with a rigger you could get someone to make you one, and you can rest assured that some enterprising poor rigger sold a few. My friend who is a smokejumper at the Redding California Base made and sold belts like my smokejumper belt for years to make extra money, he was the one who hook me up with my initial set up, I know kick down belts to him for getting me Federal assignments during fire season.

I am sorry if you don’t have the belt you need, if you decide you need another belt with the attachment ring I will workout a good deal with you to make up for any poor communication on my part.

Let me know and I will take care of you

Thank you
kary
I am actually in the process of building myself a Cobra ERB in Navy blue for my EDC bag I carry at work. For canal rescues and industrial machinery extrications (which I average about 3 a year).

Not sure which one you are referring to , I think you might be talking about the airlock and I could do one double layer.

Are you referring to this one?

The black buckle is no longer available due to the finish being so poor, the zinc coated one(silver) I still have.

I am fully stocked right now, just the dark brown is a discontinued color and currently waiting to restock the light tan color.

Let me know and I should have it built up by the weekend.

thank you

How much is the belt you did for the National Guard Medic (the one with the cobra buckle and secured attachment point)? Also, would you mind posting a picture or two of the airlock belt unbuckled? I can't tell how it operates. Thanks :)

Thanks Kary for the quick reply. I got my belt from you about 6mo to a year ago (time fly's). I really like it. Thanks for putting out a great product. At this moment I don't plan on upgrading my belt I was just wondering if it was possible. I enjoy doing some amateur rock climbing. I don't climb alone and some of my friends don't have any gear so i was looking into getting another harness and keep my cost down. Have you ever Made a harness? David

No I have debated on it, but I don't want to take on the liablity. Look at some of the low end REI harnesses. I have about 15 yrs of climbing (rock, ice and mountaineering) experience, and I have found their harnesses to be very reliable and very cost effective.

I am actually looking at buying a new harness for teaching technical rescue, I have a couple of upcoming low angle rescue classes I am doing for a neighboring fire department that is mainly volunteer. I actually like the yates harnesses, plus his stuff is US made as far as I know.

good luck

Is there any chance you could place the velcro on the reverse side so one does not have to loop back though the belt? Not sure if this was available as an option?

Do you mean placing the free end( the one normally velcro ed down) on the inside of the belt. I have done it before , it does end up looking very clean though.

I have done it before but what happens with that is the belt looses some its ability to hold the rated 2500lbs, because the slide bar can't clamp down on the other side.

If that wasn't your question let me know. I will get you looking a stylish looking

I appreciate the business ofcourse. "W" belts are good but just a little pricey for a belt. i have often said, I know how much the stuff cost so sometimes I am a little taken back by what some people charge.

I look forward to handling your business

I wanted to share a recent custom item I built for a customer in Australia, the customer wanted a one inch cobra dog collar. Foliage green and able to accept a velcro name tape.

And some recent Shears holders that I have made that were MOLLE compatible:

This is a shears shingle, made to tuck behind another pouch on a chest rig

The rest are just normal shears holders with a one inch strap. I should have a new one done this week with a mini bungee and one inch SRB

I have been charging 32.00 plus actual shipping charges(most likely 2 or 3 dollars). There is a guy in Vegas who makes something similiar but his were kind of ugly, he used tubular webbing, it just didn't look sexy and his ran from 40.00 to 75.00 dollars.

Just for strength reference the mil spec 17337 has a rating of 1500 lbs and I use two complete passes with #69 nylon bonded thread (which a single strand has a 8lb tensile strength).

And like my belts I can't really see these things wearing out.

I think it would look good with a 1 inch wide name tape sewn to it, if you like that idea you could mail it to me and I could sewn it on.

let me know what you think and thank you for the inquiry

I know $32 seems a bit pricey but the retail on a cobra buckle alone is 31.00, I get a discount ofcourse from my supplier because I buy between 20-40 at a time. And for the "D" Ring I only use quality welded hardware, I didn't want the connection point be the weak point on the collar. And the webbing and thread are US made ofcourse.

talk to you soon

How much for a belt like this in black, if black is available? Is shipping mandatory, or could I meet you somewhere and pick it up? I'm getting fat in my old age, so I'd need it to fit my 36 inch waist.

::EDIT::

Is this the $32 belt?
Someone asked me about my bug out bag last week, "You have all this STUFF in your truck, do you want the world to end?"
I said, "That's like saying someone who carries a spare tire around WANTS to get a flat or someone that carries around jumper cables WANTS a dead battery.
He didn't get it.
