I kicked off my shoes, stepped onto the scale and moved the weights over to the 300lb mark. The scale did not move.
 :o I was under 300 but how far? So I moved the big weight to the 250 mark and started moving the small weight to the right along the bar until it got to 48lbs and centered. There it was, 298lbs even.
The good thing about working security is they pay us to walk around. I have been walking the parking garage up and down each night this week until I was exhausted. I've been doing exterior patrols of the buildings. In short, I've been moving and it is paying off.
So I'm finally down below 300. That's about 35 pounds less than I weighed when I started at the hospital in April 2008.
My next goal is 285lbs. Woohoo.

Woohoo! Go, yale, go!

Way to go Yale congrats man.

I'm still hanging in there no changes so far, weight hasn't gone up or down, but I didn't tighten my belt again so that's not good. Time to step it up a notch.

Thanks everyone. Tommorrow is Sunday and I plan on stepping on the scale again before leaving the hospital at the end of my shift. I have been really walking a lot this week and being pretty good with what I eat so I'm hoping for a couple pounds less than last week. 296 would be nice.
I remember Emberfox saying that she wished she could get some walking in. LOL... Since taking this Hospital Security job I realized that I GET PAID to walk. And I walk a lot. Last night I clocked in right before midnight and was assigned to the mobile/exterior for the first 2 hour rotation. That meant that by 20 minutes after midnight I had fast walked 360 degrees around the outside of the hospital plus the School of Nursing building across the street. By 12:30 I was in the mobile and driving to other buildings the hospital owns such as our warehouse and several doctors offices and health units. At each location I had to park the mobile and get out and circle the buildings and pull on each door. By 2am I was back at the hospital and we rotated positions with me going to the Parking garage. There I had to walk up the ramps to the top level of the 5 story parking garage and then I walkd back down. I did that twice which took about 25 minutes each time. Then I got my 30 minute break then back to the parking garage for 30 minutes where I had just enough time to get in a third foot patrol. At 4am we rotated positions again and I went to work the interior of the hospital which included making deliveries of newspapers and other items, going up to a patients' room to take custody of persoal property and place it in our drop safe then go unlock the kitchen for the cooks coming in to start their day. And so on. I didn't slow down until 6am when I rotated to dispatch for the final 2 hours of the night. Then, by the time 8 am came my legs were so stiff that I could barely get out of the chair and walk down the hall to clock out. I have no doubt that by the time 8am sunday gets here I will have put a few more miles on my feet and hopefully it will pay off when I scale out.

SOMEBODY STOLE MY SCALE......
I was getting off work this morning and went up to pediatic rehab ready to kick off my shoes and stand on my regular scale and.... it wasn't there. Some other department must have taken it for their needs. Sonofa....!
So I scooted down to the ER admissions where the triage nurse checks people in but all he had was on of those digital scales. What the heck, I'll step on it. Last week I was 298. Today, according to this new and different scale I'm 297.8lbs. 297.8?!? What the FRACK?!? All that walking and watching my diet for a two tenths of a pound loss? Well, heck. I guess that's what I'm recording here for this week. 297.8lbs. I lost a whole 2/10 of a fracking pound. I hope everyone else is having a better week.

Name: Dan
Age: 27 (28 on the 27th)
Weight: 240-ish
Height: 6'3"

My goal weight is 200. I'm not obese, but I'm pretty sure I'm classified as overweight. I'm probably around 18% bodyfat.
Way too much for me IMO  I was 180 the whole time in the Corps, then picked up a lot of muscle mass when I got out lifting everyday and working construction heaving steel all day. I was at 10% bodyfat, but now after being in college and sitting in a desk job all day for a few years I'm not all sexy anymo'

Diet: I don't really have a major diet I stick to. I don't snack on sugary things anymore, now it's veggies and PB. Lots of water.
I'm cutting down on bad fats big time. I don't really drink sodas anymore, but I screw myself by drinking energy drinks. I've tried to cut it down to a sugar free redbull in the a.m., but I occasionally slip up and get a full size Amp or Sobe NoFear. I don't catch up on enough sleep, but I'll work on that.
I stopped smoking for a few weeks, but I was getting to be a real jerk and I just felt depressed all the time, so now I'm back up to a 1/4 pack a day.

Worky worky: I'm trying to stick with my workout plan of;

20 pushups, 20 Turkish squats, 20 lunges, 20 sungods, 20 crunches 3x in the morning.
I need to try to increase those numbers each week by 5.
I'm walking/running once or twice a week through the neighborhood for 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Not an amazing workout, but it's a stress reliever. I'd like to add a pack and go for a good ol' fashioned hump, but I'm going to work into that slowly.
That's what I'm up to now. I'll update once a week as my progress goes.

The scale is back in Pediactric Rehab. Hooray. I don't know where it went to last week but it's back.
As of this morning I'm down another 3/10ths at 297.5lbs. Talk about Slow and steady. Really Slow.

Have not posted in two weeks. Not a whole lot to report. Work has been so busy that I have skipped lunch-time exercise. Plus there was a whole cake incident.... so my weight is still 190lbs. :(

It's been a busy week at the hospital. Doing my security patrols of the parking lots and parking garage plus fast walking when doing my exterior check of the hospital buildings hellped a little.
This morning at 8am the scale in pediatric rehabilitation unit read an even 296.5lbs. I'm down a pound from my last posting on the 30th.
Slow and steady. That's all I'm trying for.

How many of you working on weight loss have considered combining topics on this forum, such as BOB, Hiking, and Bug Out.. with your BOB?

I live in gangland, and I take strolls that are in my area that are about 1 mile, with friends I go hiking as well, and those are now up to 3.5 miles!

You have to start somewhere.. and you have to think about the site as a whole, it's not about walking from your house to the civilian collection point, it's about, can you get from your house to where you need to go, along with your wife/kids etc etc ... and ...

now look at that... and start working backwards... if you cant walk 5 miles with your BOB, then scale it back, can you do 1.5 miles? Okay, yes you can... hydrate, wear good shoes / boots and do whats in your limits.

Now add weight to your pack, add more time to your hike and continue to do both! Then when those become trivial, move to higher altitude and more rugged terrain hikes!

I have not posted here in awhile because am embarrassed to say I am gaining weight again. Checked out at the docs at a 196. :( Not enough exercise as I have been nearly living at work.

Now, last weekend a dog wandered into my back-yard and it was the first time I took a walk around the neighborhood (because when you have a dog.. the dog needs walked, right?)
Well, the dog's owner showed up Monday so I no longer have that obligation to go walking, but that walk around the neighborhood was good exercise!

So, goal for me for this next week is to start the day off with a walk around the block (about a mile if I take one street, two miles if I go on the main road) and go up from there.

I was sitting at the computer reading this when my dog jumped on the couch and ate the end of the GS cookies I was eating... sometimes hints are hard to dismiss.

With that in mind and Better Late then Never to guide my way I join this thread.

Current Weight: Approx. 280#
Height: 6' 1"
Goal Weight: Approx. 180#
Reason: I want to weigh less then 200#
Plan: eat less walk more to start with, more plans later.
Of course that wont happen because that would be helpful and/or convenient.

The past few weeks have been kind of a whirlwind. I got sick last week and wasn't eating much so I think I have that to thank for being down a pound this week to 138. Back to the gym this week now that I'm feeling better. Anyone have any idea what is the most benefitial time to exercise? I always end up going around 11pm-midnight and should probably try revising it a bit so I can sleep easier.

This week was a slow one for me. I spent most of my work hours sitting in dispatch instead of out walking the buildings and parking lots. I got on the scale Sunday morning and it was the same as last week, 296.5lbs.

The most beneficial time to go to the gym is when you can make it without being rushed.

In my experience the best time is in the morning. I have found that it gives me energy for the rest of the day and when night comes I am tired and ready to go to bed and sleep very well.

Working out late at night will get your body's metabolism turned into overdrive and sometimes it is hard to fall asleep.

Just my own experience and remember everyone is different.

Speaking of combining topics, I've found that popping a mint whenever I feel the need to snack helps a ton, plus it gives me more Altoid tins to play with for my kits :)

'bout half a year ago when I was doing my routine physical checkup with the Doc, I was actually at 300 pounds. I couldn't believe it. 300 freaking pounds. The magnanimosity of such a number was huge to me. 290 was a lot but wasn't a slap in the face as much as when that hundreds-slot number finally ticked over.

I decided that for my kid, for me, and for a quality of life, I needed to get in better shape. This sedentary job in front of a computer has taken it's toll and I've been lax in balancing it out to counter.

I'm at ~270 right now, I haven't weighed myself in quite a while, just been trying to keep better habits. I have been sliding on my eating habits though. I think my serving sizes have crept back up over time to larger quantities.

My goal, now, is to go to the extreme. I'm going to eat as little as possible, mass-wise, while still getting all the calories and nutrition I need to lose weight at a safe rate, without cannibalizing muscle mass.

Name: jtnieman

Current Weight: Approx. 275 lbs.

Height: 6' 3"

Target Weight: 190 lbs.

Reason and Goal: To achieve my personal ideals of a good citizen, community member, and a good example of a good man. Additionally, I am leaning towards enlisting in the Army National Guard, though still doing research, and I don't want to go in like Private Pile from Full Metal Jacket. Good physical health will increase the efficiency, enjoyment, and morale of the rest of my life, including mental health and outlook. A balance of brain and brawn makes for a model man... at least when they are balanced at elevated status.

Not sure about the accuracy of my scale, but I have not been good about watching what I eat or exercising of late. I think the scale says something like 195. :/ For my height I eventually want to be 140-150.

Back on the wagon here.

Dislocated toes, wicked cold and massive work hours really set my routine into a tailspin. Haven't been able to get in a quick workout for almost a full month, and as we all know, idle time tends to develop into bad habits. The foot finally feels better so I can get out and get going again. Colder weather means slowing down, so I'll be adding BOB weight and increasing my distance.

Starting at 3 miles with 45lb pack. Ideal benchmarks will be upping weight when I can complete the distance at max speedwalking speed.

Congrats to all of you who've been keepign up with their goals. I know it's somewhat hard to grasp at times, but you are doing something very important for your health and survival.

Would anyone be interested in working off an APFT score-system? Its the Army's way of keeping track of how fit its soldiers are. The criteria are: Age, Sex, Pushups in 2 minutes, Situps in 2 Minutes, and 2 mile run. I think I also have the Basic-Entry scores somewhere, which are based off oneminute of pushups/situps, and one miler.

Okay well... only 12 weeks left but I'm gonna join anyway

Name: Skydawg2012

Height: 5'11"

Weight: 223

Short term target: 200 by January 1st 2010
Long term goal: 165 by April 30th 2010

How I will do it:
Okay this is a pretty hardcore change for me since I'm a carnivore now but once I reach 165 I will slowly go back to adding small amounts of meat to my diet. That's right, from here on out... strict vegetarian. I figure a balanced fruit/vegetable diet with a "weigh protein shake" every morning. I have also recently purchased a "total gym XLS" in perfect condition from a couple of hicks for $300.00 so I will be completing 30 minutes of daily strength training (total gym) and 30 minutes of cardio (jogging) daily. Obviously since I am quite obese and sedentary as of now, the first week or two will have large weight losses (more than two pounds).

Today I said goodbye to meat and sweets... ='[
My farewell included one steak, a custard filled chocolate long john, and a bowl of rice pudding.... yum....
I'm now going to have a catholic sister beat me with a ruler for chastisement.
No not really... ouch... This morning doesn't count (yes that was all this morning) since I just made this resolution at noon.

Wish me luck! 8)

L.O.L. looks like less roaming the ZS boards and more roaming the vegetarian section of the supermarket =P
"It's time to nut up or shut up"

Edit:
Reasons: I'm tired of looking fat.
That's about the only reason... I have an over sized a$$ for a man for one thing...
And I want to be able to look good in a wife beater in particularly.
Plus when I'm 21 I'm joining the marine corp and heading to sniper school.
My recruiter already has the forms and I've passed the marksman test with flying colors.
I'm signing up for 3-5 years active; then I hope to switch over to the National Guard. Not for sure on that part yet.

Stepped on the shipping scale yesterday and it said 232 lbs. Thats mostly due to me not eating much the past 6 days due to some stress at home.
