i would use whatever i had to, including a police baton, in times of need... would it be my first choice NO...

I would use a police baton if thats the best i had. I would even use a phone book if thats all i had. Prep the stuff you like and know how to use. Be able to imporvise when needed.

I used of cheap Chinese ASP baton and cracked a coconut wide open in one good swing. I never used a standard wooden one tho. Do you mean the wooden ones or a metal asp one?

PR24? Those will kill someone right quick if you don't know what you're doing with one. ASP? Not so much, but can still kill someone. Best used for actual self defense only with proper training and documentation since otherwise they'll likely be considered lethal force.

Is this an argument that blunt force trauma to the head isn't an effective way of killing (hypothetical) zombies, or an argument that police batons aren't an idea means of delivering blunt force trauma?

I'm the first to admit, blunt force trauma isn't the best way to kill a (hypothetical) zombie. That would be a gunshot to the head. Second-best would be decapitation, although that my leave you with a bitey head to deal with. Blunt force trauma CAN be effective, if gunshot or decapitation aren't an option. I agree, though, that a baseball bat would be a better system to deliver said trauma.

A police baton, however, CAN be used to kill a zombie, as long as it is used properly. "Properly" in this case means having four guys getting a zombie down on the ground and then repeatedly beating its skull in, while a fifth guy keeps on the lookout for zombies with video cameras.

In all seriousness, the real, best application of the police baton (for people not in law enforcement) is as a less-lethal option for self-defense against human attackers, feral dogs, etc.

Define "Police Baton". That could mean anything from an old-school hickory billy "tire-thumper" style club (which is...exactly as deadly as one would expect a stout hickory club to be, I guess) to a PR-24 (which is also exactly as deadly as a stout polycarbonate baton should be) to an ASP on Monandack expandable. Expandable batons do indeed lack sufficient weight to be ideal as a deadly weapon, but if you crack someone in the skull with one, you had better freakin' bet it's lethal.

Maybe no amount of brain trauma is truly effective and the only way to stop a zombie is to dismember it and encase the parts in concrete or similar medium?
