How many of you actually?

Postby hjp_233 » Wed Aug 19, 2009 11:25 am

I'm a very open minded person and I believe anything can happen in these day and ages specially with the Government and all.
So my question to you all is do you believe that tomorrow, next week or in 20 years time zombies could actually exist.Maybe not zombies what rise from the grave but a disease/virus zombie.Or do you like to go along of it and prepare just for fun?

+1 for Rage = yes, possible
Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is that little-death that brings total annihilation. I will face my fear. I will let it pass over and through me. When it has gone I will turn my inner-eye to see its path. Where it has gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

All it will take is the swine flu to evolve into a disease that disables the brain from functioning correctly but does not suppress the blood flow enough to kill a person. I know it is not the technical definition of zombie as that would be someone who died and was reanimated presumably without a soul but it would be possible for someone to become basically brain-dead but still capable of moving and hurting people. I doubt that would cause them to crave brains but it does give the rest of us the responsibility of dealing with the infected population.

My theory is that it will start with a mutated strain of jock itch. Men will be the only victims, and will eventually become zombies as the fungus eats the brain.

Not really. In this world I can't rule anything out. The point is that if you are prepared for a zombie attack, what else can get you down? If a massive hurricane strikes, a blizzard, tidal wave, asteroid strike, locust whatever if you're prepared for zombies you will survive. Generally speaking. I'm pretty sure the majority of the people on here don't believe in zombies, most may humor the thought, and some might not rule it out (I fall into that catergory) but it's a methaphor for promoting living with the knowledge one needs to survive. Just my opinion though.

As has been stated. Zombies are a metaphor for a breakdown of society and rule of law. That said, rage type zombies would be possible, not likely mind you, but possible. Classical "raised from the dead" zombies on the other hand; no. (unless you’re talking supernatural forces, then all bets are off :))
The newer trend in zombies is to have a scientific source, a virus or bacterium. This has many problems. First off, asking a microbiological pathogen to (1) first kill a subject (2) reanimate a subject (3) be able to animate and coordinate bodily functions (Muscle movement, balance, sight, hearing, rudimentary cognitive abilities, etc); is just asking too much of any bacteria or virus. And even if you accept the possibility that such a thing was possible, there is an inherent flaw in the theory.
A dead body, by definition, does not process oxygen. This would cause a breakdown in the Krebs cycle. This is the process by which our bodies create Adenosine-Triphosphate (the muscle activation chemical) and remove Lactic acid (the waste element from this operation). No Kebs cycle, no new Adenosine-Triphosphate. So the body would only be able to access the stored chemical that was in the body at time of death. Without blood flow, and an aerobic process; within probably 15-20 minutes (at best) any zombie would be immobilized, and could only look at you menacingly and think nasty thoughts. :)

Nothing would surprise me these days.

Though the infected/rabid zombies as opposed to the shambling undead ones seem an iota more feasible, to me at least. Its just best to be prepared as best you can for WHATEVER scenario arises. Though certainly not to the point of obsession.

I think that thanks to movies, people are much more likely to respond to a Zombie attack in a semi-smart way. Im sure if any random person on the street saw a sickly looking person limping about and trying to bite people, they would get the hell away or kill it. There are a few things i think all people would accept about zombies:
1: Its usually an infection, dont get bit.
2: Aim for the head
3: Once they go down as a human, they come back zombie.

I agree, although I think this applies only to a certain extent. The younger generations are definitely up to par as far as zombie slaying knowledge goes (based off of films, that is) But I think the older people, who wouldn't be interested in watching zombie films, would still be uneducated about the Hollywood zombie.
