Survival sites often say that surviving is best done by not allowing yourself to be in a survival situation.
We try to make our houses safe. We drive safely. We try to walk in well lighted areas, etc...
Just because we have a fire extinguisher in our house doesn't mean we can leave candles or the stove unattended. Jst because we have airbags and ABS doesn't mean that we can drive at high speeds. Doesn't mean if we have a weapon or know self-defense that we can walk into "bad" neighborhoods/dark alleys, etc...
:)
So, avoid the zombies and protect yourself only if need be.

By all means, prepare, that's not what I meant at all.

Oh right!

I am by no means encouraging ANYONE to actively engage large groups of infected people (reanimates, crazies, etc.) in any kind of survival situation.

Its just if it is a smaller and/or containable infection and you have to kill some of these things (zombies or crazies) even if you are just killing them in your escape, I think we all know it would be a good idea to reason what the authorities are going to do to you, or how they are going to treat you.

I know how inept or apathetical many officers can be to YOUR situation. Most of the time they don't CARE about what happened to you, even if you are the victim. I've dealt with this personally.

I think we should all just know that the buerocrats oftentime do not have your best intrest in mind (in fact thats almost all the time) and we should all keep this in mind during ANY survival situation.

Scarecrow, I think you're wrong about the whole government seizure of weapons. It might be an idea that comes out during the collapse, but I doubt they'd have the manpower and resources to execute it properly while the zombies were attacking. It'd be a mistake to tell Americans that they couldn't defend themselves. It'd probably lead to quite a few cops, government agents, and soldiers getting shot in the process. Bad, bad idea. Doesn't mean it's not possible, but I find it unlikely. While the government isn't exactly renowned for its common sense policies, I don't think they'd really be able to concentrate on it.

As far as the legality of shooting reanimates is concerned, I think it's a good idea to think about it, but I don't find the issue crucial. Personally, if I got to the point that I had to go toe to toe with a group of undead, I think most of the authorities would be either gone or in their ranks. I'd plan on getting out of the city as soon as possible, so I'd try to bypass as many infected as possible. It'd be easier for any pursuers to get distracted in that case, too.

Any legalistic liberal (or yuppy) pansy that would whine about killing zombies doesn't deserve our valiant efforts wasted on their sorry hide. Use them as bait to lure in a horde of zombies then detonate the homemade bomb that you strapped to them.

Hey Iggy, you're new here so you might not have noticed that this place has not become a wasteland of uniteligent soap boxing.

We like it that way. We like to keep debates on politics and/or religion off this forum.

I've noticed you have trashed liberals on a few threads. Please keep those comments off of our board. There are people from all walks of life in here and we like to get along.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me. Thanks.

As an addendum to Kyle's response, Iggy, we also don't encourage killing people. You might want to check out the rules. Thanks.

I never said anything about killing people. :P Okay, that's enough. Now I've gotten waaay out of line.

I read the rules, but didn't realize I was breaking them. It seems like a paradox trying to talk about survivalism while saying within the stifling boundaries of legality. In a true survival situation, your mind will be unfettered from such mundane contrivances. There's no ro0m for pedantics when zombies, terrorists, or EU stormtro0pers (or what-have-you) are trying to kill you to death.

Not that I'm criticizing your rules, just the concept of legalism itself, which applies more to society.

Talking about killing people because you don't agree with their ideaology is definitely beyond the scope of a survival forum. This is your first official warning; you are being awarded with an asshat.

I always pronounce it as "ass-hat". It rolls off the tounge better than "ass shat."

The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices, to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all its own...

Anyway, I agree that short term, the law will treat zombies as sick people, so that's how they should be treated. Which is to say, bugout, avoid contact, and defend yourselves only when your lives are in immediate danger.

I used to be sensitive to the feelings of *them* (what-ever-they-want-to-be-called) but not since this:

http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.a ... E_ID=42221

Basically, 11 people who followed the law in teaching their unpopular message were harassed, illegally blocked from walking down the sidewalk, spit on, arrested, and charged with felonies that may result in 47 years in jail.

They were charged with hate crimes (ethnic intimidation) - it seems that reading the bible to a homosexual is "ethnic intimidation" and therefore a hate crime. EVERYONE WHO WAS ON TAPE READING FROM THE BIBLE WAS ARRESTED FOR A FELONY HATE CRIME.

They were also charged with "possession of instruments of crime" for having a loud speaker that they used when people tried to shout them down.

The whole thing is on video. The people who had them arrested are on tape committing several crimes. The corrupt PD did nothing but harass and arrest the Christians.

Their arrest for hate crimes because they read form the bible is the equivalent of the Krysal Nacht. It's the Philadelphia PD doing to Christians what the Nazis did to the Jews. I will not stand for it. This may mean a civil war. I'm ready.

What? A civil war between doesn't have a whole lot to do with the topic....Oh wait, politics are suposed to be kept out of the forum oops. Anyways, I doubt that the governemt will have enough co ordination and/or manpower to revoke the ownership of firearms. But I can see why they would think it is a tad bit reckless.

His claims of a civil war may have been overblown, but I think that that was a proper example of the government abusing bueacracy to prosecute someone they just didn't like.

Come on? A hate crime because you read from the bible? Whats next the Torah and the Koran?

That definatly shows how anal the government can be, and I think it applicable.

I agree that Religious prosecution IS a possible senario that we should taken into consideration, especially if you're religious.

We need to be prepared for this situation like any other discriminatory social upheaval (including civil war). As everyone here knows there are groups in parts of the world that have to deal with this now on a daily basis, even in the U.S.

Anyway, yeah, our governing body or society in general could possibly violently turn on us or a select group of us. It's something that should be put in our growing list of disasters if it's not already in there.

However, I don't want this to turn into a debate about what types of people would bring that on. That could be messy knowing the different types of people in here.

I know this is obvious but just for the record, this forum should not turn into a source for people to rally up to bring down the gorvernment or organize a civil war. That's not what this forum is for.

This is a survival community, not a militant community.

I think the reason some people were rolling there eyes (as I was) at Andy's rant is because he was insinuating that the homosexuals were to blame. This was a case of bad judgement, prejudice or corrupt policy on behalf of the law enforcement and had nothing to do with the homosexuals.

Let's not misdirect the blame here because of a personal hateful prejudice.

My goodness. Within fifteen seconds of the beginning of the video you see an almost abnormally thin man in a plaid shirt. I swear I’ve seen him annoying the students in my university’s student commons. He once came to me and I briefly asked him what he thought of skepticism about the existence of God. The man twitched. I mean, we’re talking a full-body, I’m-thinking-I-want-to-mail-bomb-your-house twitch. After a moment, his response was “well, I could go up to that building and disbelieve the law of gravity, but I’d still fall.” Fun stuff. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not picking on the religious—there’s just something broken in that particular man. You can tell when he’s near you.

I am staying out of the political thing.

But- why does everyone always call the people who they don’t like/disagree with Nazis? So passé. You’d think that someone, somewhere would throw in a Spanish Inquisition reference. Or a Mongolian Horde allusion.

Variety people. It's the spice of hate.
