Didn't old, large dozers and construction equipment have gasoline engines utilized to help start the big diesels?

Also, likely due to the higher compression nature of diesels...
The Hercules engine in the M35A2s can use gasoline as well but you must add oil

I know, I'm bringing up old topics...

My dad bought a new Duramax back in 2000. During a cross country trip he stopped for fuel at a BP at around 0300. Not paying much attention and just going through the motions, he dumped about 10 gallons of mogas into the tank. All the handles being green is pretty retarded. Anyhow, he topped it off with diesel and pressed on. He said it ran a little hot and had a slight knock, but burned down the highway just fine. He did that in 2004. He's still driving the truck and it's only been in the shop for a leaking pinion seal on the rear diff.

A Ford diesel mechanic friend says he see's it quite often. On Power Strokes it's usually spouse that borrows the truck and fills it with gas, or a salesman that accepted a trade in and put gas in the diesel trade in. Power Strokes tend to lock up pretty quick from what he says, but the Duramax doesn't much care.

I assume this is from the Duramax being initially developed as a military multi-fuel engine to replace the 6.5L (probably would have happened too if the IRQ and AFG wars didn't prove the HMMWV to be worthless against IED's). It's not something I would test on current models because it's an expensive repair if it doesn't work.

As mentioned by others the 2.5ton military trucks run a multifuel engine, capable of running gas diesel kerosene or jet fuel. What wasn't mentioned is that these engines can run just about any flammable liquid, including 100% svo or wmo with no modifications. I'd be careful running any alcohols or solvents at 100% in it though, for fear of damaging gaskets and seals. The engine would run I'm sure, just not sure for how long. Most likely there would be no major parts failure just an f'ed fuel system.

Someone over on Steel Soldiers put together a list of all of the approved (and unapproved) blends the military multifuels can use. I did a quick look for it over there, but didn't see it right away, but it was pretty interesting.

Seems like you could build a multi fuel engine that uses a supercharger to provide variable cylinder pressure. For instance low boost for gasoline engines and raise boost pressure for higher compression fuels such as diesel fuel or kerosene.
