What did you today for your BOV/how did you prepare your BOV

Forgot about this thread... I have done lots of things to my truck lately...

2003 f250 oem headlights with plastic "billet" style grille
Image

Tonneau cover with my stacks sticking through.. Yes the stacks are real, and yes that's the way my exhaust comes out.

Image

New passenger side door.. I did the body work and paint. Not bad for a first timer.

There is also a few other things as well but don't have pictures of it such as 6000k HID's, new trailer towing harness, new magnaflow 4" high flow diesel catalytic converter, new speakers from my wife's 2005 eddie bauer expedition, etc

Lol, i got the thing running again. My 89 Blazer has been sitting at my aunts Bf's garage for the better part of two months because he swore to me he would do my heater core and blower motor for free. i said fine and finally had enough of drunken promises. lesson learned? yea, if the job dont pay, it has no priority.

so After he ran the thing through his shop door and drained my battery from leaving the spotlights on (Idiot.) I finally went down and pulled the battery cause it wasnt taking a charge, and replaced the battery. Then i reassembled my dashboard, and assembled enough of the components under the hood to get it to my buddies garage and we finished the rest of the work there. now that i have it back i can start tearing the suspension down and getting it ready for the ZR2 suspension i plan on putting on it. Don't want an obsurd lift, just about 3'. So i figured i can swap the beat factory gear out with a ZR@ blazer or s10 in the junk yard and add an inch or two blocks in the back and new Rough country Shocks for added stiffness. Should give me hopefully 4" of lift then i can start warming up the welder for the next project. a fully caged Front of the truck. then caging the rear exterior. with winch plates front and back. Oh yea, and the winches i have, are off of my buddies rollbacks. he just upgraded the winch systems after only a year of use. theyre already rebulit and ready to mount, Thank Irish, what are buddies for?

I made a new way to hold down my spare tire on the roof rack. I was using straps, which is ugly and a PITA.

I bought a 7" long 3/8 inch "clothesline hook", a 3/8 washer, and a wing nut from Home Depot.

The hooked end hooks onto the roof rack, and goes through a lug hole with the washer and wing nut on top. Works like a charm.

Might want to put a bit of anti-seize on the threads, lest you find yourself stuck somewhere with a wingnut rusted on. Or worse yet, a wingnut with no wings, because they snapped off trying to get the rusted nut off the rusted hook.

 Good point. I'm literally headed outside with a tube of anti-seize as soon as this posts. LOL

Kicked the tires, cleaned the windshield and fed it some Honda bits as a special treat.

What did you today for your BOV/how did you prepare your BOV

Postby benja455 » Wed Mar 21, 2012 12:17 pm

Two weekends ago was the first time I've had a chance to really put some time into my "new" BOV - 1995 Toyota Pickup (4 cylinder, 4x4, 5 speed).

Put a small GHB bag together with an extra pair of good walking shoes and a fleece jacket. The previous owner didn't do as great of a cleaning job as he promised, so I vacuumed it out and organized things behind the seat...which mostly meant throwing out junk.

I repaired the door trim, inspected all the fluids and wrote up a list of priorities (stuff to replace/repair/improve).

I probably won't have much time in the next month or so to do anything with it, but that does not concern me. It will be nicer to work on it once the spring is in full swing and over the summer.

Put all new terminals on the alternator wires. Worked on the carb a bit. I cleaned it up some more, swapped out the throttle linkage plate from the old carb, got it bolted down, and bent a new fuel line. Have not hooked up the new fuel line because it is a pain to hook up to the fuel filter just off the fuel pump. But it is all ready to go. Just have to figure out the vacuum lines. The alternator is mostly ready to go, just have to figure out the two main lines. They don't appear to be stock so my factory service manual is no help. Should have it running tomorrow. Well out of a gas can since it needs a new tank. And assuming the cheap ebay quadrajet works. If it doesn't I am going to just put down the money for a new/rebuilt carb or send this one in to a good shop.

Last 3 days, 2 nights have had me driving around in bug-out configuration to figure gas milage. I'd leave it at, "It sucks," but you folk deserve more than that.

    Normal highway MPG: 20-22 @ 65mph
    Bug-Out highway MPG: 18 @ 55mph
I also got the Jeep appraised for VA purposes.

Today DR is going in for oil consumption monitoring.

Is the JK motor having the same consumptions as the hemi's with oil consumption? If so do what a lot of hemi owners have done and get a catch can that goes in the PCV routing. You will amazingly find huge amounts of oil in them in no time at all

I think 18mpg at 75mph is great for my truck haha. I'm used to 12mpg city. So when I'm loaded up on the highway my wallet is happier than normal.

OT: I just installed the Ram Mount for my netbook and gps setup that I will go into detail about later. I have DeLorme 2012 software in it for maps, along with satellite and topographic imagery. If I have access to cell service I'll also have on-board weather radar on my netbook with my GPS position overlaid onto it. This will be great for both bugging out for alternate routes and for the work I do with my EMA/Fire/Police work. Pics to come.

Also, I think I might be putting my locker in tomorrow, not particularly sure yet, but it should at least be this weekend.

thats understandable give them time to try to fix it, but Chrysler as a whole kept coming back saying there was no problem with the hemi's and the pentastar v6's, but when you burn half a quart to a quart every 3000 miles there is a problem when the motors have less than 50000 miles (mine was brand new and would burn oil). So a billet accessory company that is big in the Chrysler hemi community put their thinking caps on and designed a billet catch can, and it did wonders. no more oil smoke haze coming out of the tailpipes at start up or when you get on it.

just keep an open mind and check these out, and they are mopar officially licensed products, and Mopar Performance approved as well.

Chrysler's cut-off is 1 qt/1,000 miles. I'm not over that threashold yet, but I'm over 1 qt./oil change which is unacceptable. 22k miles, not typical driving, I'm replacing the PVC per their suggestion and continuing with the oil consumption monitoring.

I's not exactly a thrilled Tater.

See that's the problem. In my old 300c at 300miles they replaced my PCV and it continued to emit a small haze of smoke which they said was normal. On a new moor it should never be acceptable for oil consumption and smoke especially with the ultra close tolerances with new motors. The problem is that the PCV allows oil mist to go up into the intake manifold and pool in it then at start up it dumps into the cylinders allowing it to burn. Also when under heavier throttle the extreme pressures that build in the crank case push oil mist up through the PCV and into the combustion chamber. That's why a catch can inline between the PCV and the intake plenum eliminates that. I used to check mine every few hundred miles and empty it back into the oil pan. And with mine I was running mobil1 and 7 quart oil pan it gets expensive when you burn a quart or 2 every oil change.
