Boondock's IFAK

Postby Boondock » Thu Jun 14, 2012 10:15 am

Had to post my first-aid kit for BushClass, thought I'd share with ZS.

This FAK is not intended for the end of the world. I use it for day hikes and camping, but also would bring it for a 48-72 hour bug-out.

Just the basics for initial treatment of a range of maladies, ranging from indigestion to a gunshot wound.

Maybe I missed it but I did not see anything to effectively treat GSWs.

Pressure dressing or tourniquet from cravat and bandana (there's tent stakes in my pack) combination. The tampons are for nose bleeds, but I might use them for an entry hole, Ziplock baggies for sealing a sucking chest wound.

I plan to get a new Israeli bandage and Cat tourniquet. Unfortunately, I was forced to use them on my last deployment.

But I hear what you're saying, I'm using a few old-school methods at the moment.

Please don't do that.

Yup. But to be honest, I can recall when I would've shaken a Voodoo charm stick over a wound if I thought it'd stop the bleeding.

I carry an enhanced boo-boo kit. Like I mentioned in another thread, I gave up on doing much more than trying to stabilize and evacuate.

Here's what one of my Gun Shot Wound (GSW) Kits looks like:

Does your BOB at least have: water, basic tools, fire, food, first-aid kit, and shelter?
