First aid kit in need of review

Postby Leatherman » Mon Mar 05, 2007 6:05 pm

At Walgreens I had noticed a cheap 15 dollar first aid kit, it had basic stuff, and then thought about combining it with the first aid kit that came with my Nissan Frontier, which had very little minor stuff and more heavy duty (not like sutures but giant gauze bandages and stuff) so I'll list the two, each as separate. Any suggestions on what I should add would be much appreciated, as I was originally considering getting a 140 dollar kit that came with everything I thought I needed, then realized I could do it for half as much by making it myself.

Johnson and Johnson First Aid Kit
15-cleansing wipes
5-Band aid antibiotic ointment
2-burn cooling gel
34-Band aid 5/8" x 2 1/4"

2 - tough strips 1" x 3 1/4"
2 - brand medium 2 1/4" x 3"
2- finger and knuckle bandages
2 flexible fabric extra large 1 3/4" x 4"
16 2"x2" gauze
10 butterfly closures
1 oval eye pad
1 1/2" x 5 yd first aid tape
2 imodium ad
4 tylenol
2 motrin ib
1 coach instant cold pack
survival wrap
pair of latex gloves
tweezer
college of emergency physicians first aid guide

Nissan first aid kit
5- knuckle bandages
5 - 3/8" x 1 1/2"
10 - 3/4"x 3"
3 - 4"x4" sterile gauze pads
1 - heavy trama pad 5"x9"
3 - antiseptic towelettes
3 - insect sting relief pads
1- adhesive roll tape 1/2" x 2 1/2 yd
2 - protective gloves
1- tweezer w/ magnifying glass
1 - scissors
1- gauze roll 2"x 4 yd
5 - nonadherent pads 2"x3"
1 tube first aid ointment & antiseptic cream
1 - traingular bandage with two safety pins
1 - thermal blanket

Also one tube of burn/antiseptic Johnson and Johnson cream

This is the start of my first aid kit and will stay in my frontier

I'm thinking you're pretty well covered. If you're really looking to have something for everything I do have a couple ideas

How about some antacid tablets. If you're living on camp food, you'll probably need some sooner or later

Tampons for the random gun shot wound or if you're traveling for a long time with a woman.

Sunscreen
Hand sanitizer (also an effective lighter fluid)
Poison ivy lotion Ivy Block (if you're allergic)
may be an ace bandage ( this might be the same things as the survival wrap you mentioned.)

That's pretty much all I've got. You've covered the general things I think basically you want to make it more personalized. Like if you tend to get sinus headaches, put more tylenol in, and so on.

Good luck! =)
I kick ass for the Lord!

I would swap out the latex gloves for Nitrile gloves and perhaps upgrade the scissors for
EMT shears
British by birth, American by choice.

I suggest Iodine tabs. You never know when you may need to decon some water. If you don't have filters or a way to boil water dehydration would be a crappy way to die
