For the intent of the device, IPX_4 "splashing water" is the deal killer for me.

I would want IPX-7. I swim across a creek shouldn't kill it.

I don't normally swim across creeks, but shouldn't you throw your electronics in a ziplock at least when you do so?

I strongly considered making it such, but decided against it, because I was actually genuinely curious.

About the only electrical/electronic device I wouldn't waterseal prior to a river crossing would be my surefire.

So I suppose this makes for a good derail: in our BOBs, should we carry extra ziploc freezer bags for electronics and other things that die when water waves at them?

I carry extra ziplox type bags to cook in, the water proof stuff would be a bonus, I guess.
