Crown Drawknife - thumbs up!

Postby bae » Fri Jun 22, 2012 11:41 am

My Father's Day present this year was this nice Crown 11-inch curved draw knife.

It arrived nearly shaving-sharp, it took me mere moments to get the edge the way I wanted it, and seems of good quality.

My 20+ year old BBQ grill had its handle finally rot off today. So...time to play with my new toy!

A few minutes working with the bottom section of this small tree (the part that is already cut off, I didn't take a picture until afterwards :-( ) with the draw knife, and a little carving with a small axe, yielded me a nice new handle:

And a little mess:

One trip to the lumber yard avoided!

Very nice. That's the sort of thing I want for my PAW toolbox, but it's down the list a ways. I do like that it had immediate practical application though.

Working wood with a good quality, sharp hand tool is one of the under rated pleasures in life. :awesome:

Very nice! How do you like those handles? All the ones I have used were the bent type handles.

Very nice draw knife. Several years ago I needed one but couldn't afford one, so I made one out of a curved leaf spring, ground a blade one one edge of it and welded on some handles, its very sharp and holds and edge quite well and have used it several times over the years. Congradulations on your pruchase, you can't go wrong with a curved draw knife.
