Yes you are correct, that I only shave about 30 minutes. Strictly from a leadership prospective, and thinking ahead in trying to grow a chapter, a state central location makes more long term sense then pegging the meeting to a mall that is central for three or four people. Frankly that's short sighted from a growth prospective. I have no issues traveling to Lex, I'm already there every six weeks anyway, my truck knows the way on autopilot.

Also note that I did reference some future meetings, hopefully by then more people from the state will be involved in addtion to our Lexington community of 3. The entire thought of a more central meeting location had nothing to do with the current month. And really....if 75% of the active members in the future are from Lex or close, then Lexington is certainly where the mettings should be held.

Now as to the actual date specific part of my previous message.......

Any thoughts on the Lexington gun show meet January 9th?

i dont wanna put out peoples personal business but someone else on this thread has a Suturday night radio show, and that might be an easy plug for the event and fund raising.

And as far as moving to E-town thats adds about 45 min to the drive for me.

Lexington is a great place for current meetings.

Love the radio show thing!

I think Lex is fine, since most of the people who have been active are closest to it. Personally I don't really care-- you name the place, and I'm an hour and a half from it. It's all the same to me. But I certainly don't want to alienate the majority for the minority's benefit-- I don't think that's short-sighted, I think it's logical. When we have more members to attend the meets, it may be prudent to move the venue, but as for now I think Lex is as good a place as any.

I love the gunshow idea, as it may be a huge step in advertisement, but want to reaffirm that a gunshow may keep us from getting any brainstorming done on the details we still have to figure out. Still, it's a great idea/oppertunity, so whatever the group decides is cool with me.

The radio plug would be fantastic. Who is the user you mentioned?

I believe that is exactly what I said.

As for the gun show, everyone could break away and have a meeting down in food court area, away from the GS festivities, and still have a really good opportunity to get some visability, recruit some new members and forward the cause.

Oh. I misunderstood, then. I thought you were saying that you wanted to move to a more neutral location now rather than later. Sorry.

Yeah, I think the gunshow meet is a good plan. Do we all agree? Are there other ideas to consider?

That might be me, but our show is in hiatus until sometime after New Years; MrsKYZHunters just got back from Afghanistan and we decided to wait until after the holidays to go back on the air.

Question, is it going to cost $$$ to get in to the gun show?

If I add a table there shouldn't be any issue of getting passes. Before that date I'll need a firm head count. We've done enough business over the years with this promoter that I don't see any problem unless we have 20 people showing up and I doubt that will happen.

Disclaimer: this is NOT an attempt to call anyone out or put anyone down. It's just a CYA move to make sure this event doesn't hit a snag.

Dialtone seems to be MIA. Given that he is our link to the band that is supposed to perform, this is distressing. Whether he returns in time or not, we need to formulate a Plan B that we would be comfortable running with. Maybe it's as simple as finding another band, or maybe it's a completely different idea.

We need to know what we're doing before we can advertise it, unless we're just asking for donations. Advertising this band playing here, only to end up doing a food drive is no good imo.

Does anyone else have a link to a band that could perform? I recall someone mentioning a band touring in Florida-- will they be back in the Commonwealth by late January? If another band is not viable, then what is our comprable and practical back-up plan to bring in money?

I have a band out of Lexington that would probably be glad to play. Their called "Trial and Error". They play regular at the VFW Post 680 and at Natasha's Cafe in Lexington. I'm sure they would donate their time. They do blues, classic rock and so forth.

Good on both of you! It may be wise to pursue both oppertunities as you never know who's gonna fall through on you. Maybe-- just a thought-- we could even get more than one band to play and make it more of a concert than just a show.

Multiple bands would be awesome. It also gives us a little breathing space if a band cancels on us.

I spoke to my guy in Trial and Error tonight, as long as they have the date open they are good for a charity show. A good amount of advance notice would be appreciated.

Just what I was thinking. The best Plan B can be used at the same time as Plan A. :D

Sweet. As soon as we hammer down a date, you'll know. I imagine that will be figured out either at the next meeting or shortly thereafter. Still shooting for late Jan/early Feb.

Okay folks, it's official. The three "officers" have been elected. They are, in no particular order:

--Kelvar
--Darkaxel
--Yours truly

Please note that, while the three of us will be managing much of the logistical details, the only real reason we are the officers is because someone has to be; personally I feel that the three of us have a good balance of ambition and means to make things happen.

This does not downplay anyone else's involvement. We may be officers, but we're still members, just like everyone else. We'll handle the paperwork and a lot of the details, but we still need each and every one of you to be as involved as you can be. We need ideas, assistance with logistics and occasionally your physical presence. There are some things that we will ask of our members, which will be included in a charter that is currently being written up by the officers (and, of course, will be later posted in this thread for approval from the community).

Now, back to business!

glocktech wrote:I spoke to my guy in Trial and Error tonight, as long as they have the date open they are good for a charity show. A good amount of advance notice would be appreciated.

Are they comfortable with playing a show that features other bands? Don't want to start a rivalry or anything, and we don't want anyone feeling inadequate.

Hello guys, I'm in Lex but I'm only about a week new so I couldn't say where I stand on joining up, KYZHunters told me about you guys and it sounds really cool. I've read most of the thread and it sounds like you guys are doing a good job, keep it up. Also I thought I'd let you know that there is also a gun show in Lex. on the 8th and 9th sence you were also talking about the 9th to meet up, could be a fun before or after thing if the meeting were in Lex again.

It wasn't an election, so much as a "which paid members have time and willingness to screw around with this?" It isn't an honor, so much as a requirement imposed by the powers that be.

If anyone feels left out, send us a PM and we'll find a fair way to sort things out.

Otherwise, if things take off, hopefully we can have elections every year. We're going to have a charter and everything. It is very exciting.
