Speaking as a person who gets to deal with the wax that's been packed&tamped down into a plug resembling concrete against the eardrum by the q-tips (this is the REAL reason we hate them, the puncture thing while possible is not common), that loop thing looks way better. I have improvised something similar (and fully expect to never live down the shame if I do manage to puncture my own ear drum because it's clear that I damn well know better...)

My personal stupid shit is -
Chocolate. Might start loosing my shit if I didn't get some daily. Also, hair conditioner. Don't wash it every day, but dang it is Not Right if I don't have conditioner for it. And not changing my undies at least twice a day squiks me out. (I know it doesn't need it THAT often. Still...) Yes, I have all of these things well covered in the BOB's and the bug in supplies.

I've had the lucky pleasure on several occasions to live without, well, everything. Bare-base setups, no store, no resupply, just what we had on us. Water bottle baths, and no laundry for about a month and a half. That being said, I can live without just about every creature comfort. It just sucks. I must say that the one thing I never want to live without again is some sort of hand sanitizer. I don't care if it's alcohol gel, antibacterial soap, or paint thinner. Something to wash the hands before adding food to the mouth.

The thing about a lack of decent hygienic services is that we all stank equally bad. We had wipes and water bottles, and couldn't use our drinking water to wash our clothes.

All our fighting is in Arid desert shitholes. If it was in a temperate zone with rain (enough naturally supplies water for cleaning) like in much of N. America and Europe your hell would be less. I guess we got that goin for us if there is a disaster, Which is nice.

Hand sanitizer also makes a decent firestarter (the gel kind anyway) and is a good addition to anybody's kit.
