My buddy ordered two of them on the pre-order they did. He has a few UK kilts and being that our airsoft team are a bunch of Gucci mofo's that need to be different that the rest of the players, the 5.11 kilt was up as an option for when we were playing. I emailed 5.11 to see if there was a possibility of getting in on the pre-order buit it closed quickly. Here is the email.

Thank you for contacting 5.11 Tactical regarding our Tactical Duty Kilt. We offered the kilt for a limited time because we are only running a small production of this item. Currently we do not have plans on having it available in the future. However, the response has been outstanding so it is possible that we may offer this type of item eventually. We will have a few extra kilts available in September when they are released. I recommend checking back closer to September.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or comments. Thank you again for contacting 5.11 Tactical and have a great day.

I almost ordered one, but they didn't say whether it was true sizing (like most kilts) or vanity sizing. I wear a 36 or 37 inch kilt and 34" pants. Not knowing how they sized them I figured I had a 50/50 shot of paying $60 for something that didn't fit.

Yeah, thats bogus man. I want one now. My utilikilt doesnt fit these days and I'm looking to maybe sell it and get a cheaper replacment. I found a seller on Ebay that's cranking out a work style kilt for 70 bucks, looks pretty good. I'll post mine for sale when I get back home for some pictures.

Never seen this thread before. I didn't wear pants for about 2 years because where I worked at the time didn't prohibit it. My boss was also of Scots descent so she definitely didn't stop me.
My favorite one is a What Price Glory WWI replica in Gordon modern. 22oz per meter on that one. Weighs a ton, is too warm at anything above 60 degrees F, and is GREAT when the temps drop and weather gets nasty. I have a few others, and even a couple in more modern fabrics (Neo Kilt is a WA local...believe it's still in Oly). Good stuff, low maintenance and comfy.

I just ordered a khaki tactical kilt from Tactikilt.com. I should have it in a week or so to review.

Not a bad price, $95 shipped.

Tactikilt came in today. I am pretty impressed with it. I did order it a size bigger than I should have, a 44 instead of a 42 but it is comfortable, well made, and it was cheap to boot. I paid 95 shipped and they threw in a free t-shirt. They have them in black and khaki. They had them in MARPAT summer (desert digital) at one point but I think they were out of stock. I will get them in MultiCam if they ever offer it.

I will get some better pics up soon.

Does anyone know if a Spec-Ops Dry Cell BDU pocket organizer will fit in a Ultilikilt's pockets? Standard and Workman are a little different so if you've done it, please specify which. I know they're a little narrower than my BDU pockets but I'm hoping there is enough play that it will work. Then again UK pockets aren't gusseted so the thickness might be an issue, too...

The organizer is 7x8, Standard UK pockets are like 6 3/4 wide so I'm going to assume that's a no go. The Workman is 7" exactly, measured flat seam to seam, and does have a bit of a gusset. So my bet is yes in the Workman, no in the others. Anyone actually try it/own 'em and willing to check?

I know there are other, smaller organizers, I was just wondering b/c they're on sale now.

Jeriah, I own multiple standard UKs, two workman's and one mocker. I don't know the answer, but if you wanted to send me one along with a self-addressed, postage-paid envelope to return it, I'll find out. Hell, I'll even take pictures.

Thanks. I actually asked that when I was considering buying a couple of Dry Cells; I ended up buying them but not for that purpose. Since I had 'em, I tried it, and the answer is: Yes, but not well, and only sideways. You can jam a Dry Cell into a kilt pocket sideways, i.e. zipper forward instead of up, but it's not an easy fit. I would call it a "could if you have to" thing, rather than a good thing to do on purpose.

I would venture to guess that would be a negative. I am waiting to hear from TactiKilts to see if they will do one in MultiCam. If not, it is off to SportsKilts I go.

Needlepimp is back stateside and taking orders again, so if you want an awesome multicam kilt you might want to give him a ring. Damned if I can remember his forum name here, though. I'm 100% positive he's posted in this thread somewhere. His kilts are quite simply awesome, and if I had the funds, I'd already be sporting one.

fake edit: crap, I forgot his website is borked. Best way to reach him if you can't find him on here might be at his forum at Brotherhood of the Kilt.

I'm so glad I found this thread. I've wanted a kilt in one of the family tartans ( McClellan one side and Bryce the other) for a long time just to have. I also want a "tactical/utilitarian" kilt to wear but it's going to take some convincing of the wife.

Well I'm certainly glad I wasn't the only one that loves the chill of the breeze on a fine fall morning.
Years ago, when I participated in a reenactment group, (we portrayed the scottish influence from the fleeing of the jacobite uprising of 1745 to the immigration to the appalachian area) I used to wear the standard black watch pattern (didn't have my own kilt at the time, it was on of those "loaner" that the group had). One morning I was wearing my old olive drab jacket and a modern boots due to the wonderful muddy weather. ( that event would rain 9 out of 10 times, it soon became an omen for us in the group. If it rained at that event, the rest of the year would be nice and sunny ... if not, then be forewarned) Anyhow, I was approached by an elderly lady (flat lander) who had the heart to come out and attempt to enjoy the event. Being one of the street entertainers, I assisted her to one of the drier areas. After talking to her for a while, she mentioned I looked similar to her brother and pulled out a picture of her brother ( he was in the black watch during WW2 ) I have to admit, I looked like a mirror image ( well, actually my boots were mud-encrusted, while his was polished). Since that day, I always have pride wearing my kilts. Thought it was something nice to add to the community of those that dare to tread against the common flow of thought that our legs have to be confined to two tubes of canvas.

I ordered one of those 5.11 TDKs back when.

Funny thing about them is the whole thing apparently started as an April Fool's gag, but it generated so many emails that they decided to do a limited run.

Got an email Friday saying it was on the way.

And if fat guys look better, I'm gonna look outright strange, seeing as I'm a hair over 6'2" and skinny...

Mine arrived today! All three of 'em. One black, one tan, one olive. For all occasions.

They are VERY light, much lighter than a Utilikilt. Fabric is a lightweight NYCO ripstop, similar to lightweight BDU fabric. Actually I looked at the tag and it's 65% Polyester, 35% cotton. It also says "Made In Vietnam," which doesn't surprise me; for the price, I knew it would be imported. I like the way it looks, feels, and fits: I ordered a size 40 and it fits perfectly. Sizing seems to be true as opposed to vanity or otherwise off.

At like $50 apiece, which was their price back when they were initially offered, I'd say they're a good deal, closer to a high-end pair of BDUs than the triple-digit prices of most kilts. I like 'em as lightweight, maybe less hot (not sure about the fabric), and less precious alternatives to my Utilikilts. Something I'd run a tactical class in for sure.

And if fat guys look better, I'm gonna look outright strange, seeing as I'm a hair over 6'2" and skinny...

Kilts need a belt more than pants do, in my experience, especially if you're skinny/have no ass. Get a decent belt and it should be fine, and look great on you. Tall + skinny + kilt doesn't have to look funny, unless the length is too short (the 5.11 looks fine on me, and I've got three or four inches on you), or too loose.

Wore mine all day to school yesterday - with my Vibram 5-fingers for good measure.

Used my Adams Leatherworks belt that normally holds my CCW holster/gun. Worked well.

So I've read the this entire thread but can't remember seeing this mentioned before.

Anyone know a tailor/seamstress that could make me a Utlikilt style kilt out of fabric I provide? Even better, anyone know if UK does custom orders?

I have a large section of tartan cloth that was originally for use as a great kilt, but due to a washing mishap it is no longer big enough... Oops... It should still be more than long enough to create a modern kilt out of. And it's perfect for hunting.

Thanks for the help,
Rob V.
