My latest weapon builds, two swords and a... thing.

The first one is for my 3yo, it is thin plywood, foam-core wood-grain molding, cheap leather and super glue. It is supposed to be the sword from "jake and the neverland pirates".

The other two are basically fantasy weapons as well. A couple of buddies asked for "zombie killin' weapons" so thats what they got. The machete/short sword is for an asian man or unknown origins, so I found some chinese words that say "Zombie blade" supposadly... I'm going to tell him it says "cat cleaver" though, for shits/giggles.

It started life as a schrade machete, but has been heavily modified.

Reshapped the blade, from hollow ground to convex. Changed the tip drastically to give it that asian flare. The grip was way too fat, ground that down & added sports tape, the guard is festooned with sharpened stainless steel bolts, the pommel is reshaped to a less stupid look, it's painted with "non-glare" paint, and is shaving sharp.

This one... pretty much speaks for it's self-

Yeah, thats a 5/8" bolt, through a cut-down axe handle, with an 8" edge-sharpened circ saw blade on the end.

Thank you, though JoergS would have put a motor on it, so the blade spins at 20,000rpm... Maybe someday :(

And it would have shot blades with a box fed magazine, but spinning is the next step.... patience.

That saw blade is amazing. Wish I had thought of that.

Me: "And what do we do when we see zombies?"
Gunner: "Kill them?"
Me: "That's right, we kill them...again."

What did you use to stain the axe handle? That looks sharp.

Pardon the pun.

Your standard $4.99 oil/stain from home depot, in ebony. I actually was going for a much darker "black" but that wood, DAMN it is hard, the stuff just didnt want to seep in very deep.

And before you ask, yes the wood was coated with something (urethane I think), but a few hours on the belt sander took care of that... The end grain areas seemed to take well though, anyway like you say, it is an interesting look.

Nice machete hack :P

That wood pirate sword is awesome though. I would've loved something like that when I was 5 years old or something. All we had was doo-doo sticks.

I had the same idea with the circular saw blade. When I did mine though I placed a second screw through one of the safety holes to stop the blade spinning and loosening the screw in the centre.

Prepping; Why prep? Well just think of it as a physical form of insurance. You insure your home "just in case" it gets robbed. Why not prep "just in case" the poop hits the propeller?

The center bolt in mine is huge, fairly tight in the hole in the wood & the blade rides on a smooth, untreaded shoulder. So it will not loosen the bolt if the blade turns a bit... It's more like an axle with threads at the end.

I think your thing is technically an axe, and i think I might make one of my own if you don't mind me copying your design. I might be able to wheel sharpen it to a fine edge, not knife sharp 'cause it will get ugly, but axe sharp and you might be able to use it for chopping without so much mess

A thicker blade would be needed for something like that, mine will hold up to occasional whacking, but would bend if used long term. I have seen thicker, and toothless blades that might work on some farm equiptment... Some type of plow I think.

A high school teacher I had made the same thing as your saw-axe. He called it the Discombobulator... I always thought that was a great name.

Good stuff!

I really like the Dr. Evil Axe Saw Blade thing. I thought Jeorg's slingshot inventions were intimidating before after he sees this he'll probably be trying to figure out how to launch that saw blade...

My saw blade launcher will be featured very soon by the Discovery Channel... here are some pics:

It works pretty much like a clay pidgeon shooter, except it has a magnet to hold the saw blade in place, and it is hand held...

It spins in flight, juuuust the way I like it :)

I want to see the Youtube video of this thing in use.
If you can't afford it, make it.
Why buy food, when you can grow it, or hunt it?
Best way to keep meat fresh, don't kill it yet.
Guns are nice, but I like my Cold Steel Assegai Spear.

Will show it soon, after the Discovery Channel has aired the piece.

Back to the topic - I want to see a video of the Dr. Evil saw blade axe smashing things up! Any chance?

Already gave it to Dr. Evil :(

I think he may want to display it, keep it pretty. But I will ask him if he wants to try it on a coconut.

Would you have any interest in making another wood pirate sword? I would love to purchase something like that for my son if you'd be willing.

I would love to, unlike many of my overbuilt projects, it was not very time intensive... That one was for a 4yo, so I specifically made it light & thin in case she bopped someone in the head, it could not do much damage... I know some people like the old school thicker wood swords (1/4" or 5/16" maybe?)... So I would need details on design, size, how heavy duty, whatever else you think important... $10 plus shipping would probably be fair, unless you want oak or something
