blowguns

Postby String Goblin » Sun Feb 27, 2005 5:52 pm

Searching the forum topics, I noticed there wasn't much discussion of blowguns. Though I doubt they'd prove effective against Zombies, they could be useful in the PAW for small game hunting and pest control, when ammo conservation is a must. So, I thought I'd provide some links to some useful sites.

Incidentally, I highly recommend Extreme Blowguns's .50 cal. Tuff-Ram, ColdSteel's .625 cal., and Primitive Weapons' .68 cal., all of which I own and shoot regularly. The last two double as walking sticks.

Unless you've trained your self to be about the best there is with blow darts, I'd not recommend it on the living, or dead.

You're right: practice is key. But blowguns are very accurate. I can hit a field mouse size target on the move at 10 meters nine out of ten times, but I have been practicing for years.

Well, maybe then. You might be able to get one lucky shot in the eye if you were good enough on the walking dead, but that'd be a big if right there. But any way, yes, if you're good enough like that, you could keep working with that you could use it against small game to kill, and maybe eat.

It'd provide something to do in your PAW hideout, stalk mice.

You guys are kuh-ray-zeeeeeeeee!

If you are proficient at it, by all means take advantage of that. I'm not and have a lot of other skills to learn before I make it mastering blowguns. But then, you probably don't have "spotting photoshopped porn" as one your priorities, so I guess it evens out.
The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices, to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all its own...

I used to have one and they are very accurate. I don't think it would take much effort to be profiecent at it. I never used mine on a living thing but I had a friend that shot a dart at a squirl. Apparently the squirl ran off with the needle stuck in its side. In other words, I wonder how effective it is at killing something even as small as a Florida squirl.

Depends on depth of penetration and where you hit it.

I think a sling-shot from wal-mart would make a much better weapon than a blow gun.

Plus you don't need specialized ammo for the slingshot, you can just get a hunk of wood, or a pebble, or bits of bone or seashells and use them.

For blow guns you need to make those damned darts...

Trust me, i've tried to carve darts out of wood, it takes fucking forever, and then they break like nobodies business.

What if you poison them? What would you even poison them with?

On darts and small animals: yes, target darts are inappropriate for killing small game, even mouse-sized animals. However, there are special broadhead and bamboo darts specifically designed for game up to and including rabbits and hares. They are very efficient.

On poison: yes, the trick is choosing the right kind. I'm not sure what the laws are regarding posting information of this sort, so all I will say is that you have to choose a poison that only works through the animal's blood stream, but that is broken down by the enzimes in your stomach, so that you can eat an animal killed this way. Many such poisons exist.

have you ever heard of natural selection?

Maybe dipping it in cough syrup. Hehe! I really don't know if this would work and make the animal groggy.
