As with most headlines, slightly incorrect.

Tinting glass is something Carey Counsil does every day. However, fixing broken glass was his biggest concern Saturday night.

“It was rather shocking when I got the phone call at 3:30 AM that somebody had just broken into my shop after being broken into a week before,” said Carey Counsil, owner of Carey’s Detail & Window Tint.

A neighbor called 911 to report the crime just moments after the suspect smashed through the front door of the auto shop.

“I just heard someone breaking in…My husband went around to check it out…I hear a confrontation, if you can please hurry,” said the caller.

The confrontation didn't last long. The burglar didn't stand a chance against Bo Danysh and his Norwegian battle ax.

“Most people have their parents’ shotgun or whatever here in the country. Well I don't have a gun, so I have my family’s ax,” said Danysh. He has been working at the Renaissance Festival since he was 14 years old. He is trained in combat and martial arts.

The struggle started when Danysh chased the suspect across the street and into a field where he dropped the stolen money box. Danysh then grabbed the suspect by the belt and threw him over a car parked outside.

“At the time, he was pretty scared for his life. He kept saying not to kill him,” said Danysh.

The chase finally ended in front of Allan's Automotive.

“I picked him up and slammed him back down on the ground, put my knee between his shoulder blades and locked his legs behind him until the police came over,” said Danysh.

Danysh later recognized the burglar. The suspect was Freddy Martinez, a Carey's Window Tint employee. Martinez is charged with burglary and public intoxication. He also had an outstanding warrant for an unrelated crime. Martinez is in Brenham Police custody.

Despite a cash reward and recognition from Crimestoppers, Bo Danysh does not see himself as a hero.

“If you're hardwired to do something that's right, you need to do it, period…regardless of a reward, or notoriety, or publicity for that matter,” said Daysh.

It wasn't like he actually hit the guy with it. Sounds like Danysh had an axe when he chased down the burglar and wrestled Martinez down to the ground by hand. Still cool though. Big guy (watch the vid). I have the same axe.

Thats awesome. My ex-wife is from Brenham. I spent a lot of time there over a 10 year period. This story does not surprise me in the least...

Would have made my day if it was a ball/peen hammer and not an ax.

Huh, you aren't feeling the axe? As you probably know from the camping trip, I dig axes myself. Besides, ball peen hammers are generally not cool enough to be family heirlooms.

Hmm, I wonder what the guy did with the axe while he was throwing the burglar around?

If you leave it on the ground you'te possibly providing the burglar or his accomplice with a weapon, but keeping it in hand if you're not going to use it then it ends up limiting you.

In my mind he held it with his strong hand and tossed the guy around with his weak arm.

True but axes generally take two hands and my FU is to use both hands.

That's an awesome visual. :D

Still curious though...Oh well, screw it. I'll never know for sure and it'll haunt me to the end of my days.

All's well that ends well. It worked out well for him.

He obviously just left his axe on the ground, as only he can pick it up. If he needed it, he would simply will it to his hand! I saws that in a movie a lil while back.

You guys are hilarious... a buddy of mine saw this link and shared it with me. I had to stop by and thank you all for making light of the situation rather than fawn over the ordeal, I would expect no less from a group of survivalists.

@Regular guy - Although not ball peen, for me the Cross peens stay in the forge man.. you never use a tool for anything other than what it is meant for, it takes away the effeciency of the instrument, one of the most influential lessons from my Mastersmith.

@Browning 35 - I did not release my Axe until I tackled him across the street, I believe that is when my brain switched from assault to detain "mode".

Cool. I'm surprised that the mystery of what happened to the axe during the fight was solved so neatly.

Kind of figured that's what happened to it, but maybe it could have gotten used by hitting the burglar with the flat of it.

All the same he did not give me reason to strike him, he was too scared out of his mind and dropped his weapon when I threw him into the car.. I did however use it to gain leverage when he ran away. (As Elbow-Ninja can attest) The beauty of an Axe especially a Danish war Axe is its versatility, as he was much faster than myself utilizing the extra 4 feet of length I was able to catch his leg in the "beard" of the axe dragging him closer I believe that was the only way I was able to catch him. As for taboo into to using two hands while wielding it for mundane actions (IE: grasping, manipulating objects etc) Choking up to the head places your hand in the "beard" as well and allows one 60% use of the occupied hand.

Glad I could put your mind at ease man, you can now sleep easier with that enigma revealed

And I am definitley checking out Abraham Lincoln Vampire Killer, something tells me it will be reminscent of a Colonial Army of Darkness.
