Those are only beyond you because it looks hard. It really isn't that hard brother. Some basic loops and stitching is all. Just repeated a lot.

No, I GOT the reference, I was just thinking a different type of can might work better- no one says you have to paint it or anything. The Bluebird OJ can came to mind, because I glued a magnet into the bottom of one, and have used it on a whiteboard drawing board I built, so I'm familiar with the scale of it, and it's made of steel (last I knew), which would hold up better. Con crowds can be a bit rough.

Ohh it's not a con thing, well not really, well it's a con for drunk rednecks? A lot of the stuff is slapdash and horrid looking, but adds to the charm. That being said the soda can just looks a bit to sloppy for me I think. I like the idea of a soda can silencer, but I think it will have to become a soup can or something similar.

And GK, I'll take a closer look at that video, gauntlets are not something I've figured out yet so maybe I can work em.

A con is just a gathering of geeks du jure, the base topic doesn't matter much. I occasionally do Star Wars or Sci-Fi cons, in costume, to help out various charities. My fiancee thought it sounded cool, so we set her up with a SW character to portray- in her case, Mara Jade, since she had red hair at the time. I usually go as a Jedi, and everyone assumes I'm Obi Wan Kenobi- the OLD one... :gonk:

Anyway, not sure if she'd like the hobby or not, I wasn't laying out a ton of cash on costuming the first time out. Some black spandex for a top and bottoms, a pair of boots she could use for other stuff, and some of my black "tacticool" crap left over from a Batman costume one Halloween, and she was looking pretty good. We needed to add some armor, tho, and we found that Sports Authority had some pretty reasonably priced shin guards, that once painted black, would do nicely to finish off the look, along with some children's shin guards on her arms that I found in the Dollar store. For a metallic look, I cleaned them up nice first, and prepped the surface with paint thinner, then painted them silver where needed. Black followed that, and now, if the black paint gets scratched, the silver peeks through, looking pretty good if I say so myself.
This is the look we were going for: Image,
and this is what we ended up with: Image
End result, she has a BALL doing this, puts smiles on the faces of a LOT of kids (and the local oaf squad- but she's going home with ME :D ), and we've decided that upgrading to the leather version of the costume makes sense.

That's awesome, always nice when your SO is into this type of stuff as well. I assume you already looked up the 501st? If not might be some information there you can use.

And yeah, guess what I meant to say is this is less the type of con I'm used to seeing, and in large part a 3 day booze fest in the middle of the Mojave with some self reliance stuff thrown in. Though I imagined if I was trying to copy a costume from Mad Max and cut corners I'd get some pretty negative results.

Work is coming along on the skirt though, so should be interesting if err a bit transparent...

Cool cos! I never had the guts to dress for a Con. Got a question though. Who is Jada? I never heard of her. Not being a dick, just curious.

I can make a more simplified designed gauntlet if you like? I have been known to sling a bit o' leather in my time.

For your skirt you can use some aluminum plate from Home Depot. It is light and easy to work with. I think it would look cool alternating metal panels with leather panels.

Mara Jade is a character introduced in the SW books, taking place AFTER the movies, in what is known as the Expanded Universe. She initially is trying to kill Luke Skywalker, and ends up marrying him and becoming a Jedi. Aint love a funny thing? lol

OK, so I am pretty much, finally done. Might do some minor detail work, add some spikes to places, gotta work on the those leg pieces some more also. Maybe a set of standalone goggles.

Wore a pair of shorts under that skirt so you all didn't go blind, so your welcome lol, gonna have to figure out something for WW that works a bit better though, if I am evil maybe a banana hammock

So decided I should give some of the current variations of the build

Image

It wasn't until later I realized I made these (two now) at like 60% scale

So decided to step it up a little, redo it with the proper tools and try adding some street sign back in at logical areas but still keep it a lite as possible.

Needs to be distressed up still of course.

I find its really therapeutic. Seriously great way to unwind, here is the updated helmet I forgot to add in. Flash really washes out the detail though :(

You know with any kind of strobe lighting those are going to be scary.

Standby for massive picture update, for those with 56k (you still exist?), sorry

I included the two other main costumes I've finished for my Tribe, one of them still needs a skirt but one of the ladies that might wear it are going loin cloth anyway.

You've taken this from a neat idea to full-on baddassery, and it just keeps getting better. Color me super jealous, I'd totally rock that shit.
