Yup for costume, and GK I'll let you know on PRG if I need rivets for the next one.

The copper ones look like their going to hold but damn are they a pain to work with compared to the brass ones.

There are two tricks for the heavy copper Rivets TLF sells. One is to use a snipper to cut them close to the washer and the other is to use a heavy metal or marble slab to peen them.

I do both of those, I used this back in SCA days, issue is getting into the inside of the armor to pound rivets, can't really get momentum to swing, but it got done.

I had the same issue, and found an easy way to work around it- put the rivets in from INSIDE the armor, and do your peening on the outside. That way, all you need to finagle into place is a way to back up the rivet while you peen it over.

I realized I should have done that half way through, and what's worse is I could have left the rifts not cut and it woulda looked ok  oh well, learned a lot on this project.

Crest on the helm, and maybe some cheek plates of some kind? Like a gallic helm? And it'll look a lot more roman.

Armour is looking good. Needs a neck scarf for chafing I think.

I do have a Focale I should wear, or maybe just get a desert shemagh. Hmm cheek plates are a good idea, not sure how to pull it off. I think by the time I finish everything else if I don't find a coyote pelt I may just do a mohawk out of a brush or some such.

Got the pelt semi-mounted, because KnightoftheRoc is awesome and gave me the pelt you see. Still need to soften the hide up though, someone on the WW forums recommended me some stuff from Tandy that should do the trick. Got the main weathering done on the armor as well, not sure if it is enough though TBH.

The more I look at pictures of this thing the more I don't like it, not sure why certain things are just bugging me about it, I'll keep working at it though.

I am going to be making some changes though, I'll be taking the hoses off the helmet and making the respirator a stand alone system that hooks behind the head. Mainly this is so I don't have to wear that damn helmet all the time (it isn't very comfortable) and it will give me some options.

What I am doing, is running the hoses down to a old gasmask satchel that I stuffed a empty box in to give it shape, so it should look like a hip mounted filter. Or maybe chest mounted, I'll see. Might cover up that gap that keeps appearing as the shoulders move around.

Also, the 550 cord is ugly as sin, that is going to be one of the first things I change, I might even take the head off the helmet and put it over one of my shoulders or something.

That looks pretty darned good- glad I could help out. Nice to see it went to a good home, and that it didn't cause your dog to attack you for wearing it, lol.

He actually did attack it a few times when I turned around  he is terrified of it when it is right in front of him for some reason.

Bet you're glad now you didn't decide on making it a loincloth, huh?

Na, pelts have been used to cover dangley parts for a long time you would be fine.

Looks great keep it up.

The problem with the choice of using it as a loin cloth, would be the additional "dangley bit" being the german shepard. Whoever tanned this skin must have been just learning the skill. It's been shedding since I bought it at a yard sale 4 years ago. I have, in that time, probably vacuumed up enough loose hairs to knit myself another coyote out of the collected loose hair. Also, there's not a single animal that's been in the house with it that hasn't fallen in love with it in some way or another, and decided to drag, claw, chew, or some other way,yet more hair off it. This was one reason I was glad to find it a good home.

Yeah I really fear after WW it's going to look like it had mange, but hell that will just add to the charm. Or maybe I should only bust it out for special occasions so it lasts a bit longer.

Hey, if you discover some treatment that will make it stop shedding like it was still alive, let me know. That's info I'd love to be able to draw on, if needed. Beyond a dipping in a vat of super glue, I was pretty much out of ideas.

Will do for sure, no luck so far, every idea I have will ruin it.

Well except for maybe, some watered down glue, in a giant syringe, and just "inject" it near where the follicle goes into the skin.

Something a bit different, the gun to go along with the outfit!

Ok, had to start messing around with one of them, blame the can of silencer

Here is the stock POS airsoft AK I got off ebay, lucky for me in this case, it is super easy to scratch up, the scratches you do see was from shifting it on the tile.

Spent about 45min scratching it up, taking gouges out and a little work, this is when I remembered I should take some WIP shots.

My silencer of Angina
I will most likely have to take this off, since it covers the orange tip sadly. At least I think I do. Federal law states it must be imported with the tip, doesn't say anything about covering it up after, but just in case that can is easy to remove.

I noticed some screw holes I had forgot to cover, in this case what I did is file out deep "break" in the rifle, then filled it in with gorilla glue, I'll most likely add some more later, then paint it to look like a ghetto weld job

Wait! I forgot the most important thing...duct tape, hmm that magazine looks like it could use some. Might as well use the roll the dog chewed up.

Next up is to dab some metal color in the scratches on the, well, metal parts, then a light black ink wash. For the wood I'll most likely mix up a darker brown, then a really light black ink wash.

Then weather the whole thing using some misted spray paint.

Nah it is still an AK.

Edit to add:

I found an idea for gauntlets for your costume bro. Of course not so pretty white.

Those gauntlets look SWEET! For costuming, anyway- I see potential "issues" with the strapping across the palms for any "real" use. Nice find!

Sckitzo, if the 'can' on the end of the AK barrel is supposed to be a silencer, what's with it squished like it is? I'm thinking maybe a condensed OJ can like Bluebird brand comes in might do better, and be more realistically scaled. btw, if this is going to be for any gathering in public, I'd STILL add an orange barrel tip in- why ask for problems?

The weathering on that rifle looks awesome- it's rare that the ADDITION of ratty duct tape is an actual improvement, but you certainly made it work!

Those gauntlets are amazing, but beyond me I think.

And yeah, I started thinking I shoulda used a soup can or something, but it will work for now.

As for legalities, WW has a permit where replica weapons can be displayed on the property during the event, so as long as it's covered to and from, I'm good (though doesn't fix it if I want to use it for other stuff.

So I'll work on it a bit.
