But of course, YMMV.

I heard zack say "who is it". I told him who it was, he opened the door
and me and the others went in. I told him the world is going to shit and
i need all the weapons you have. he said we could only take a little
he needed some for himself. I told him i was using my neighborhood

him lets take his weapons also. We stocked up on all the weapons

everything he could as well minus the people, so he had way more
room then i did. we returned to the neighborhood and called a meeting
at the neighborhood park to pass out weapons, ammunition and to also introduce Zack.
I also asked my Neighborhood if they would want too quarantine any outsider
that is sick and or looks suspicious. Around ninety percent of neiborhood said yes
to the quarantine. At night we all went back home to view the news and get some sleep
we have big days a head of us.

As if a major flu epidemic isn't enough, I have (IRL) a major T-Storm heading for my AO that is spawning tornadoes left and right. The game will go on during this local crisis though - so long as my house don't take a direct hit, which ain't likely but I'm keeping an eye out.

In other news, my brother has been activated in the AR National Guard. He used Military Priority to get ahold of my dad in SoCal. He is bugging out to AR with his wife and my sisters and their kids in a U-Haul + car transport. He twitched on this way early and snagged one off the lot yesterday. His ETA is another 2 days.

My children have decicdeed to stay with their mother here in northern Iowa. I do not hold it against them at all. Me and the 2 with me are bugging out to AR, but we are not sure when. My brother has lined up passes that will get us through government roadblocks which I will pick up at the 1133rd armory tomorrow. I didn't even know he could do that. (IRL I didn't know, but if he says he can then he can and I'm putting it in - yes I called him so I could figure out where I was bugging to and he ran with the idea so it stays.) He says to wear it like I would a Press Pass.

Pure win.

Unfortunately my gas will only get me halfway and I cannot pick up my weekly check (100% service connected disability) until Monday so I'm not sure what I'm going to do there. I will figure it out. Even if I get it I am not sure what gas I can get plus I have to figure a way to avoid Waterloo, Ceder Rapids, Iowa City, and any other significant city in Iowa plus even bigger cities in Missouri like St. Louis. Talk about half-assed plans... I'm kicking myself here.

I'm loving this because it has helped refine my actual bug-out plans. My primary BOL was my ex's because it was close but I now know after talking to her that it is 4th on my list after other places much further away from here. Tell me this thread isn't full of win.

After leaving the medical clinic last night I had my partner drop me off at my house. He tells me "The chief is going to tear you a new one" I really didn't care. We turned on our two way and tried to contact our dispatch but the radio was dead. All the radios were silent. As we pull up in front of my home I ask my partner what he plans on doing and he has pretty much the same idea as me. Neither of us are going to be any good to the public if we end up getting ourselves killed. He tells me he is going to bring the ambulance back to the station and head home also. I wish him luck and head down my driveway.

My home looks peaceful. It's a small modest cape with a nice big yard and a vegetable garden. I am lucky enough to be up on a hill and set back a little ways off the road. I have acres of woods and wetlands behind me and with only one neighbor to the side. I had always planed on standing my ground if something bad ever happened. After all, this is my home.

When I walk in the door my dog runs up to greet me like it was any other night. My girlfriend come and gives me a hug and tells me "your not going back into work" She has been watching the news and seeing the live images from the DC hospital. I decide to keep the story of my transport to myself for now. How do you tell someone you just saw a zombie.

I tell her how the riots and the flu are getting real bad and we need to lay low for a few days and let this thing sort it's self out. I go into the bedroom and fetch my pistol. I'm embarrassed to say i only have about 20 rounds. I also grab my baseball bat from under the bed, heck it works in the movies. I tell her to start bringing all the food and camping supplies up to the second floor. I take the pistol, grab some wood from the shed and begin boarding up all the windows. Lucky for me I am somewhat of a handyman and have more than enough lumbar to make my little home into a fortress.

I chuckle a little to myself about how I dropped off my big old truck to get some work done on it. I really wish I had it because it would of made for an excellent plan B. I'm not sure where I'd bug out to but I had always joked about how "when the zombies come my truck will just bulldoze through them". I suppose my new plan B is to head out on foot but we should be pretty well set right where we are. I have a seat on the couch crack open a beer. I take one sip and fall right asleep.

I awake to my girlfriend making coffee. She and I sit down and discuss out situation. It looks like we have about two weeks of food. The garden is just starting to produce a little so that might give us a buffer. With the tub a portable water tank and anything else that can hold water filled we have enough to last us about two weeks and a 55 gal rain barrel if things really get bad.

I look out a peep hole in the boarded window and notice the street is unbelievable quiet with the exception of an occasional speeding car go flying by. I take the pistol and head outside to give last nights fortifications a once over. I head out the the garage and grab my axe and some other tools. I unlatch electric door opener lever and lock everything up tight. I head back into the house and lock the door behind me. This is where I will make my stand. On the plus side I bet my girlfrined will finally agree to reed my walking dead comics... in fact I might as well read them over again myself :D . I turn on the tv and watch with the rest of the world as everything around us turns into a horror movie.

(In the real world I'm going to be offline for a few days so in the scenario I'll be lawing low and bunkered down.)
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I shall fear no evil, because I am the meanest son-of-a-bitch in the valley.

Alright, I'm finally home, this takes place early in the AM of the 3rd day. The events are of course BS, the preps made, and way things are handled are not.

After a sleepless night, scrounging around for all the supplies left in the house and making all the calls I'm on the road heading to the rally point. Its 7:46 when I start the van My friend, we'll call him pilot, on account of his ability to fly a plane is along with his girlfriend. We are on the road, which is not as busy as usual, except by the grocery store we pass along the way, full to the brim, theres even cars parked on the grass.

We all gather by just after 8AM and are ready to go, Mom, Grandma, Pilot, and his girlfriend are in the Big van as well as the dogs. As rear guard Pilot has an AK and 6 mags at the ready lightly concealed in the back of the van where he is, and a pistol on his hip. Mom has a Pistol with a spare clip. In the middle of the convoy in the minivan is Mrs wire and the kids she as well has a pistol. Running point in the S10 is myself driving, Tripwire riding shotgun and runner in the back. We have sidearms on us and rifles ready under the rear seat. The convoy is on the road at 8:15, I'm still a little snezy from being in the van with the dogs, I'm allergic.

Once on the road we take a half mile lead in the S10 with runner on the radio to keep the convoy in communication. We barley hit the edge of town when we spot the National guard setting up the road blocks, crapsiccle, I knew I shouldn't of waited so long. We turn around before we get there, and radio the others. We break out the Topo maps I have thanks to a post on the Zombie board(thanks by the way) and plan our route around on the fly, looks like were running the moonshine route. We work our way around the road block and decide to stick to gravel for a wile to avoid other possible hindrance with Uncle Sam's finest.

We have been on gravel for the last 45 minutes were about 40 miles north of Des Moines now. After stopping for a P break we decide to mosey back to the 2 lanes to cover more ground. Im all cleared up from my trip with the dogs, good thing to. After we make it another ten miles when we hit another road block, only this one is int the Military.

Runner calls a halt and the vans stop before the hill crest. Sitting before us down in the valley a head at the old rail crossing sits a couple of pickup trucks blocking the road, and 4 armed men stationed with them There about 800 yards away from us with patches of dense foliage between us and them. Runner and I take the truck down to see if there friendly or not. Tripwire ducks out of the truck as I slowly move behind a silo, taking with him my PSL and a spare clip, not that he would need it, and closes on them to provide us cover, just in case I give the signal. With 4 confirmed, and who knows who else hiding were going to need the accurate fire of the PSL should the situation arise.

We approach them slowly, so as to give time for Trip to move, careful to not appear threatening. As we close to about a hundred yards I hear the radio break squawk, hes ready to cover, and we finish closing the gap. The man I assume is there leader approaches and asks “You got Polk county plates, haven't got the sickness have you” to which I reply “No we haven't” “Thats good” he said,” What you doing here?” he asks “Just looking to see if we can pass through, and be on our way.” I reply. “Why sure you can pass!” he exclaims ”Cost ya a thousand bucks.” he replies with a sinister tone, “I'm sorry we don't have A thousand Dollars sir” I politely reply. “If ya don't have it we will just take what ever you have of value till we hit a grand instead.” “We don't have anything of value, sorry to have troubled you, we can just go another way.” I say ready to signal Tripwire as the thieves appear to be getting ready themselves. “No problem, feel free to come back if you find something nice for us.” he said with a devious smirk, he waved his men down and I backed down the road to the entrance to a feild where I back up to turn around. Trip wire heads back shortly after we leave there range.

We decide its better to just find another route, God only knows what the monsters in the valley will do to some one else, but we cant risk getting in a fire fight at this time, no matter how badly I want to deal with them. We loose an hour and a half back tracking and avoiding the road block, I pray they only take peoples stuff.

Were nearing a smaller city now, smoke from a big fire can be seen miles out. This is normally a city we would drive through, wile going back for a visit if there wasn't a infestation going on that is, We decided along time ago on this trip to avoid it, it would probably be barricaded by the Military any way. We see it to the East of us, about nine miles away, I can only imagine the hell going on there now. Theres more gang activity there than in Des Moines, I imagine they are fighting over imaginary turf more so now than usual, there all bad asses ya know. Fighting for soil they will never own. No matter, we press on I don't think Ill smell anything but gravel dust for the next week.

The rest of the trip is rather un eventful, After the burning city its mostly small farming communities, We pass through one on the way to our BOL in hopes of toping off our tanks, we don't need to but might as well wile we can the people are friendly as ever, like nothing is happening outside of ol man Jacobs daughter getin married again, or something like that.

We stop at a gas station and start filling. The clerk asks us if there is any thing going on, Pilot just clams up and gets awkward, “Um, ua, well ya know...” hes not much of a people person. Mrs Pilot chimes in and said to the clerk “We all heard people in Des Moines were getting crazy so we left early for our camping trip” The clerk responded “ I hear the Army blocked off the town, is that true?” she asked, I chime in with “I don't know we left before the sun was up, we had to do some sight seeing on the way.” “Oh, where y'all camping at?” I replied, gesturing outside “ There family's land in Minnesota, just over the border. I hope the state is int blockaded off like you said.” We finished out the small talk and left the store, maybe I should go back an get her number, she was cute;) We hit the road again its 11:45.

We stick to the rural highways for the rest of the trip, still on guard, but more relaxed. We enter the valley where our destination town sits at 1:15, Its a great feeling to have arrived. Pops has lunch waiting for us when our three dust ridden vehicles arrive. We talk over lunch about the goings on in the cities. The burning city is close enough to cause some alarm, Pops starts calling people to arrange a town meeting tomorrow to decide what to do, and how to handle things. Till then we all settle in and try to act like its not happening, at least for a little wile wile we can.

Ok well My fingers hurt, Yes I have found some things that should be changed in my preps as well. Mostly the dogs, but there family members, and useful. Grandma probably gonna stay in Des Moines, she wouldn't leave her cats, but I'm not having 14 cats in my convoy, no freakin way.
I might be in the basement. I'll go upstairs and check.

Chime in here, day 2 late night.

Start packing everything my family needs waiting on Heim's call to bug out. Packing for 3 kids, on wife, guns, ammo..... and make it all fit in the mini-van. I don't go to the store because I hate large crowds. Pack the food I can, frozen stuff in the coolers to help with food when we get to our BOL.

Crate up every thing I can for hand loading.... have the feeling we'll need it before this is over.... if it ever gets over

Day 3
Get Heim's call and turn around from going to work.... business has been bad lately any way (HVAC trade here). Call the wife to get her to start preping the kids for the long hall up north.

Convoy headed out of town..... ^^^^ look up for Heim's account for the travel north.

Location: Humble, Texas (North of Houston)
People: Myself, wife (both ex-military) and sister in law.
Pets: Puppy Pit-bull and Fat Cat
Food and Water: 3 weeks worth
Weapons: 3 Carbines (400rds), 2 Hand guns (200 rds), 1 Shot Gun (30 rds), and 1 22LR (300 rds).

(12:00 pm)
By mid day of day 2 I have accepted the reality that the S really has HTF. I sit down with my wife and we take a moment to discuss the best course of action given the situation. We decide to bug in since we have a nice stockpile.
The reason behind our bug in is because we took advantage of the $8000 new home credit and are 1 of 7 people living in a new neighborhood with homes spread out. 2 fully built but unsold homes are on both sides of my house. I go to the new home construction sites and begin taking any materials that I need to secure the home. My wife is at home filling water containers and taking inventory of our supplies.
While out I notice 2 cars pull up to my home. One is filled with family (Mom, Dad, 2 sisters, sisters boyfriend, and 3 dogs) the other is a close friend. All are well received and are immediately put to work making preparations. Parents brought over enough food for them to last 2 weeks an extra generator with gas cans and 4 weapons (1 shotgun, 2 handguns, and 1 22LR) with very low ammo. Friend did not bring much, a few bags of crackers and chips. Over all the extra people did not bring much but many hands make light work.

(4:00pm)
Home is now secure and weapons have been passed out to others. Sister and boyfriend went to the CVS 1 exit over to check for any left over supplies. Hopefully when people went crazy for supplies at the stores they forgot about the small pharmacy stores. There is little left on the shelves but they are able to procure about 1 more weeks worth of supplies.
We are all now sitting in the living room monitoring situation on the news. I sit down with my father and begin to make plans to Bug out if necessary. (2 trucks F-150 crew cab and Nissan Frontier crew cab).

It's early on Day 3 and I'm heading out on my papers and I'm concerned about storm damage in addition to what the hell is going on with the news.

Between the weather and the flu I'm getting a mite nervous. Club, I mean walking stick, packed and ready to go.

Note to self: CCW has its merits and should be looked into.

Day Three - Afternoon

Breaking news from WCPO Cincinnati :
Panic broke out today during a lightly attended Reds game during the ninth inning, where the reds were up 7-1. According to eye witnesses, several people were attacked in the upper concourse. According to witnesses, shot were fired, and one or more casualties occurred. The Reds management initiated an immediate clearing of the stadium, in which we have reports of several other people being trampled to death, in a gruesome reminder of the Who concert tragedy of over thirty years ago.

In order to prevent the riot from spreading into Newport, Kentucky officials promptly closed all bridges to foot traffic. Then, in an unprecedented move, ALL of the bridges across the river were closed by Kentucky State Police and National Guard troops. This has brought traffic to a standstill. After three hours, Kentucky National Guard troops began to allow limited traffic across, but only for documented residents of Kentucky, who were forced to submit to a personal, and in some cases medical, inspection.

Certain groups such as the ACLU are protesting this move and are in the process of filing paperwork with the courts in hopes of lifting the closure. Officials in Kentucky respond that these actions have been taken in response to 'terrorist threats, some of which are threatening to destroy the bridges'.

"We deeply regret the inconvenience that this is causing both the residents of the Commonwealth as well as the rest of the public. But, in order to insure that these vital infrastructure links across the Ohio River remain intact, we feel we have no choice but to take these threats seriously."

With the amount of gridlock the city is now experiencing as a result, it could be hours, if not days, before the interstates free up.

As a side note, downtown hotels, already full from stranded air travellers, are now trying to handle the crowds demanding room. Several restaurants have already run out of supplies and have been forced to close early.

Note: I'm going to add some more here in a bit

Day 3: 09:00 CDT

Back from papers.

Minnesota National Guard has shut down Albert Lea, MN. They had a tornado hit last night (IRL) and with the flu hitting so hard so fast Governor Pawlenty has locked down Freeborn County entirely to prevent looting and help health officials and local law enforcement, with help from the Minnesota National Gaurd, contain the spread of this new flu strain. That was today's lead story. Anybody with an evac route near Albert Lea needs to adjust accordingly, sorry. Real life just complicated the situation.

Below the fold was Iowa news about the Iowa National Guard being mobilized to help with the same (minus the tornado damage) with major metropolitin areas in Iowa. Cities listed to receive aid are Ames, Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Dubuque, Iowa City, Sioux City, and Waterloo. In addition Polk and Scott counties (Davenport/Quad cities and Des Moines and outlaying areas). The 1133rd was specifically named as being activated as well.

Delivering papers...

I had to go to the Globe offices here in town to pick up my papers. My delivery driver caught the bug somehow and called in. They were more than a couple of people short as well so papers delivered late. No America in the Morning today. The Bob and Tom Show was a best of for some reason. I don't know... national news got pushed back to page 2 and I wasn't interested in reading the entire paper when I was already so far behind schedule. District managers were scrambling to cover routes that people called in sick on. I was asked to sub but declined, saying I had an injured hand (IRL I think my middle finger on my right hand is busted).

Traffic was dead. No one was out and about while I was delivering. Not in cars at any rate. I saw a couple small groups of people walking around but at a distance and that isn't unusual for this neighborhood. There was also tree limbs semi blocking the roads in a couple areas from wind damage when we got slammed by the thuderstorms last night.

When I got home I turned on the TV and cable is out. Mrs. TR clucked at me about how low I've let the food get during our seperation. I pretty much told her done is done. The internet is down as well (no cable = no cable modem 9 times in 10), so there went my radio access unless I sat in the car.

No storm damage to the house though. I'll be heading to the armory today to pick up the travel pass for the three of us bugging out and I'm going to see if I can pick up Monday's check early. I should be able to get some stuff done provided the situation doesn't get any worse than it already is. I want to bug in but it may be getting time to bug out so I'm keeping that option open and who knows what's going to happen Monday.

No early morning news today: The cable is out. Internet still working, though the DSL and phone service keeps dropping in and out sporadically. I have to rely on good ol WJSN (Radio) for my morning news (which I avoid like the plague due to its crappy random music format interspersed with religious programming) This morning, however, I'm greeted by the sound of the governor's voice as he gives an unexpected address to the Commonwealth:

My fellow Kentuckians, I am addressing you this morning to update the state on the current crisis and what your government is doing about it. As of Six-thirty this morning, I have issued orders to the Adjutant General of Kentucky that all members of the National Guard, active and inactive, are to report to the nearest National Guard Armory for deployment.

Also as of 7:30 last night, I have ordered the National Guard and Kentucky State Police to close all rail, foot, and road bridges across the Ohio River. Kentucky residents will be allowed to re-enter the state at designated crossings that will be announced at the end of this message. This extreme measure was taken to protect the vital infrastructure and river traffic along the Ohio River from the mass rioting erupting to our north. The Governors of Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois have assured me that they will cooperate fully with this measure.

The Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky Airport and the Bluegrass International Airport have also been closed to non-essential travel, and incoming flights diverted to other states. Kentucky's roads are to be kept clear of all non-essential traffic as well.

All police and emergency agencies in the Commonwealth are out in full force to deal with civil disturbances in Louisville, Lexington, Richmond, and Hazard. A shoot-on-sight order for looters is now in effect for the following counties....
(long list of counties, Kentucky has 120 of them)

I turn off the radio and bring out the rest of the arsenal, and check the Internet for local news again, and while still flukey, I manage to watch all of one news story:http://www.wkyt.com/home/headlines/96645864.html (This happened IRL, and it just kinda fits with the whole Outbreak deal)

Night Day 2 goes as smoothly as it could. The mother and I are keeping up with the news channels, a few more of which have switched over to Emergency Broadcast. We tried to formulate a plan of action in regards to our most obvious shortfall, a lack of power. We have brought all the firewood onto the back porch next to the door, and have some non-essential furniture listed and put aside JIC.

We both decided to sleep in the garage-room since we had moved some mattresses there anyways. Several gunshots interrupt my sleep throughout the night, a few very close to the house.

We both wake up early the next morning, and decide that we should try to venture out to the store. Our food won't last that long. We know that we have no chance of getting into or finding anything in town, so we decide to try a few 'Dollar store' type places that are out in the boonies. We walk outside to my car, and I notice the solar garden lights I just bought and out in(IRL, $5 at Home-Depot/Lowes, and they look awesome) and I comment that we should bring them inside when we get back.

IRL I would be in about the same situation, except I probably would have gone to the store for more food/water and preps sooner. I'm sure something would have hit me wrong if this scenario really happened and I would have caught wind, and ZS surely would have.

More to come.

Being that San Diego hasn't really been hit yet, i still must go to work *sigh*. While I'm there though I'm going to grab the three flats of bottled water that I have hidden in the back room and some more batteries for my flashlights, and all of our emergency candles and sterno fuel. My girlfriend has the day off so she's going to go to the local grocery store about a block up the street to stock up on canned goods and more water.

Filled my 5 5 gallon water jugs with fresh tap water yesterday. stopping by the gas station on the way to work to fill up my truck.

Sorry for no updates, real life gets in the way. Got a phone call, so getting ready to head out the door to drive to FL. I'll be back Sunday night hopefully.

=======================================

Day 3 Mid-Day

Those with CSPAN/CSPAN2/PBS still showing on TV or on their local NPR channels are now hearing a droning voice that is reading from Civil Defense Manuals various instructions and how to's.

Newscast out of NYC have grown strangely silent. The last images are that of a mob rushing across the Brooklyn Bridge.

Ms Lista is now broadcasting from at top the ABC building in Rosslyn overlooking DC.
You can see a few Marine Snipers in the background on other buildings sighting in on targets across the river. Every now and than you hear them fire.

Virginia & Arizona Governors are both quoted as saying the "ACLU can kiss my ass" in response to their filings.

Those in view of Atlanta can see several fires burning within the city.

========================

For any that want to post, figure Day3-5 continue the same.
By Day 5 the stores that were still open do not have any stock left.
By Day 5 many cities are having riots from normal humans because of the shortages.

Besides containment, water & power are remaining priorities for intact governments. They will spend many resources(aka guards) to maintain them.

Pro-Gun Governors will ask for Militia volunteers. Lib Gov's will ask folks not to attempt handle justice. Use best judgment for your state.

Alright that's all I have till Sunday night.

Side note.

And I'm reacting about the way I would IRL, maybe even a little faster. I really try to avoid the hype when I can, tin foil or otherwise. Add in that we had 62 torndaoes spawn last night (mostly in MN and ND w/ some in IA and WI) and I end up expecting the National Guard to be activated, so I would be downplaying it even more.

I insisted on incorperating real life stuff into this whenever possible, like the twisters and the BP Spill. That spill ain't ever getting cleaned up or capped now so we should figure that in as well unless Yeti overules me doing this.

And Yeti it's totally your call if you want to overule that.

Kinda odd how that is working out, ain't it?

Late to the game
Central Coast Ca
Day 3 Mid afternoon

I wipe the sweat from my face and swear under my breath as I look over the preps my family and I have made to my Sister and Brother inlaws property (400 Acres with it own well, have reinforced gate and cleared brush to give better view of approaches) I had managed to get up here after a four hour drive (usually about 50 mins) had to try three different routes to get here, all others congested to a standstill. Head count-Myself, Wife, Son, Daughter, Grandson, Sister (who owns property), Her husband, three other sisters and their spouses and one brother. My hands are shaking as I walk back to the house, and my stomach hasnt stopped aching for the last 2 days. This morning we packed all the preps we had made(about 3 weeks of food and water and all my fire arms SKS Para(900 rnds), Kimber .45 (50rnds),Enfield #4 and #1(40 rnds), couple of 22lr bolt actions (250rnds) some camping gear, propane, ect we had.

Communicating this morning was a bitch, I called as many friends as I could before leaving, but two hours of trying to get through on Cell/ Land line yielded very spotty results, they were Bugging Out to a location in the country we had talked about before. I had been in touch with most of my family from day 1.5 and late last night we all agreed to meet (those I could reach) at my MB sisters. 6 of my sisters are medical professinals 3 RN's 1 Nurse Practitioner, 1 Micro Biologist and 1 Respiratory therapist. I had been getting info from them from the outset, My sister the micro biologist supplying the most disturbing info of all. They do all the lab work for the surrounding medical facilities and she did some culturing of the first cases, telling me the contagion was acting like nothing she had ever seen before, that she was really scared, and was not going back into work, several people in her lab had called in sick. The local hospitals were either Locked down or not responding to their queries.

I am worried as shit about my missing sisters. All the Land lines and Cell networks are Inop now. We had managed to get some small supplies on they way up , 40 rnds for the enfields and some more canned goods but not much else, wishing I had started prepping earlier :( . I feel good about our location but not much else. I have my suspicions about what is going on but keep them to myself (probably in shock and denial). As I approach the house my brother in law says he is going out to get my other sisters, and do I want to come , my gut clenches even tighter and I just nod. I kiss my wife and tell her it will be alright, she doesnt want me to go, I tell her that its my family and I have to, even though I really dont want to. we climb into his truck (about 3/4 tank of gas) with my Kimber and his .38 revolver and we head out...
Our integrity sells for so little, but it's all that we really have. It is the very last inch of us, but within that inch, we are free.

Militray Twist

Everyone please read and adjust accordingly

IRL I just got off the phone with my little brother who set forth how the military would be likely to respond. I saw no flaws in his logic so everyone please pay attention and adjust accordingly.

Yes, this messes with my plans too but I'm adapting.

All National Guard units should be activated now with all major metro areas (Iowa I have already listed) being quarentined. There are evacuation centers for those who were travelling when the lockdown occoured.

At some unannounced time in the future (someone else playing along has to decide this) they will quarentine every town with a hospital in it.

Units are being issued not only weapons but ammo.

ROE is currently Bravo. aka: Shout, Shove, Show, Shoot. They will shout to get you to follow instruction. If that fails they will shove. If that fails they will show you that they are armed and willing to fire. Failing that they will fire. They are also authorized to fire in self defense.

At this time if you have a member of your family, be it father, sister, daughter, grandfather, etc. who is in the militray, they they can get you a travel pass to travel from A to B, B being where your loved one is deployed. You must get the pass from the nearest armory, report to the same armory before departing to be screened for infection (antibody test - CDC did something right), then you may travel to point B using Interstate, Federal, or State highways. You must stay on these routes and if found out of possition you will be considered in violation of the pass and taken to the nearest evecuation center to be processed and not allowed to travel further. At some point in the future (I will announce based on what's being reported) this will create a problem with too many people becoming contaminated and will become restricted to immeadiate family of the service member only.

The travel passes are being issued based on morale for the service members.

California Residents Fleeing the State

My father lives in SoCal and my brother has made a ruling on this as well. All residents fleeing the state heading East must go through the town of Bakersfield to be processed and cleared for travel. All residents fleeing North must go through Sacramento for same.

My brother reported to me that my father is stuck in Bakersfield because they only have one driver with any endurance and they have 7 people in a U-Haul truck with a car in tow plus another vehicle. There is nothing I can do for them at this time. I have my pass and was able to weasel $50 out of my conservator for fuel to evacuate. Check has been cashed as I refuse to depend on the ATM's if this gets as bad as what my brother is thinking it will.

Town has very little traffic with the occassionnal NG vehicle driving around. I've seen a couple Dueces with soldiers riding in the back. There is more to this than tornadoes. The radio was playing news, even the music stations. I discovered Des Moines, along with several other major cities in Iowa, has been quarentined. Mason City has not yet.

This pass had better work when I need it to.

I am still not evacuating at this time. I have a reaponsibilty to help distribute the news. That is personally how I see my job as paperboy and Mrs. TR has told me I'm nuts for taking a stand on this but she will abide by my choice and hope it doesn't cost everyone their lives. I'm angry with her over this but she is staying quiet, having let me know her opinion.

Honestly I think she is just very worried about me because I'm exposing myself. I think it has to be done though.

After a heated discussion between Mr ellemir and myself we agree to hang out a white sheet. We are all healthy here and there is no chance of avoiding notice when the army roll up, however much I'd rather pretend like no-one is home. Then the fun starts, we realise we don't possess a single non-coloured sheet. Fortunately, I am a keen crafter so searching through my stash turns up a length of bleached calico (muslin to the Americans among you) which we use instead.

We still have plenty of water and will be collecting rainfall. In desperate times we might access the stream which is channeling through a pipe under the end of our garden, although if safety is less of an issue walking to where it runs above ground is a matter of 2 minutes or less.

Food will not be a real issue for some time, but fear, stress and boredom have caused us to eat more than a fair amount of our favourite snack foods and I've had to hide what remains. Some of my time is spent creating ideas for our daily menus, as we try to husband our resources.

To relieve boredom, we have drawn up a schedule of basic chores, measures to improve security, and structuring free time to include board games and other communal activities, as well as potentially useful crafts such as woodworking (hubbie) and sewing (myself). We are using as much of the limited daylight creeping through our boarded windows as possible. Nightfall means getting as much rest as we can, while maintaining a basic level of watchfulness. I quickly become glad that there are 3 adults in the house to share the work.

With no traffic on the roads to speak of except the occasional police cruiser and the Hummer setting at the nearest intersection, I decide to peek my head out the door and give my boss a holler. He's doing fine, and calls me over to offer me a beer. In these trying times, who'd turn down an offer like that. I leave the SKS propped up next to the front door, but I decide to take my Rossi .38 just in case. I step out on the porch, take a look around, and head over. When I get out to the road, the boss is sitting in his front parking lot (My boss lives in a former country store) with his next-door renter, a man of questionable character and habits. In fact, the dude looks totally stoned and bombed on booze at the same time.

Some time later, the drunk looks up and say's "Hey, thersh meh womom, shesh shposed to be goin to the hoshpital". A figure making it's way down the road is indeed the renter's "Woman" but her skin is pale, her face is slack, hell, all of her muscles are slack. The happy asshole jumps up from his seat and runs toward her with all the glee a drunken d-bag can manage while bombed and under the influence of something else.

Then I see it first-hand. The woman grabs her man, pulls him in close, and proceeds to rip the flesh off of his cheek with her teeth. The resulting scream draws the attention of the soldiers setting in the hummer, so I grab the boss and drag him into his fucking house. An infected is right outside.

Infected? hell IT'S A MOTHERFUCKING ZOMBIE!

(Yes, I'll be That Guy 8) )

Bit late, but here goes:

It's been an interesting past few days around here. I heard the news about the plane crash in El Paso, and the Childrens' Hospital in DC, and warning bells were going off, but dumb me, I figured I was just overreacting.

I was headed in to work yesterday and saw a massive snarl of traffic trying to get on post; figured with stuff going on, they had raised their alert status or something; wouldn't be a surprise to anyone, but here they were, trying to drive on post like nothing, and wondering why it was taking so much longer.

Once I got closer, I realized that they had a couple of HMMWVs restricting the traffic flow onto post. The checkpoints are farther up the road, so this seemed strange. "Glad the company moved me to the office downtown," I thought to myself.

I realized that they were blocking traffic heading into town, as well, and there was no way I was going to make it to the office, when I saw the Soldier manning the 240 open up.

It didn't make any sense at the time, but I realized I didn't want to be there, so I flipped a u-turn (yeah, on the highway, I know I shouldn't pull stunts like that, but it's not like there was much traffic headed north anyway), and put the pedal down.

I managed to make a call to my supervisor, to let him know what was going on, and that I would have to work something out. He let me know not to worry, I could do what work I could from my computer at home. He said that with recent events, CENTCOM was locked down, and our contractors wouldn't be going anywhere for the time being. I was just about to ask him about timesheets when the connection dropped off. I'm not sure why, but there's nothing I can do about it.

I made it back home just fine, got the crutch out of the back seat, hobbled in (I had surgery on my knee last weekend), and explained to my confused wife what I had seen and heard. I tried to log on to AKO (Army Knowledge Online), since I couldn't call my Guard unit, but AKO was down again. So if there was a recall, I wasn't going to know about it one way or the other, and if Sierra Vista was that bad, there's no way I'd be able to make it THROUGH Tucson.

Without cable, all the news I've got is online, and I may be reading a bit too much into things, some of the stories I'm reading on ZS have got me a little worried.

I looked outside a minute ago, and everything seems quiet enough, it could be a normal day, but it looks like there's smoke over in Sierra Vista, and I could've sworn I heard gunfire up toward the Border Patrol checkpoint.

I think it might be a good idea to go talk to the neighbors soon, to see what they've heard.

That's what we were all waiting for!

We drive to the Dollar General that's about 15 mins up the street.(I live at the intersection of Middle and Nowhere so I doubt the roads would be blocked) We arrive and peep into the store from the car. There doesn't seem to be anyone in there, so I yell out and toss a stone at the door. A frail looking old man runs up to the door and looks me over really well, then unlocks the door. "What do you need?" he asks brashly, "I'm just looking for some food and water and maybe some medicine. I have money and I'm not looking to steal anything." He looks torn, like he's debating with himself, then he opens the door and motions us in.

I get inside and the place looks trashed, not much left on the shelves, but some, which is better than nothing. I appears the old man has turned over some shelves and stacked things against the windows. "I'm sorry to bother you and I know it's crazy out there, but we just need a few things, then we'll be out of your hair.""Ehh, whatever. You're the first to come by my store today. Yesterday a had people in here tearing through my stock like it's the end of the world...as close as I'll ever see I guess." We pick up some of the supplies he has left and bring them to the front. "Are you sure you don't need this stuff for yourself?" He breaks out in laughter. "I have some stuff in the back, plenty enough for me. You go on and take what you need. You'll need it more than I will. It's not like I can take it with me." I try to ease the tension telling him of the NG we saw and heard of, and that things will probably be under control soon. He brushes these comments off. "Hah! The government. Always gettin' ready for everything except what happens." I offer him some cash for the goods. "Just take them, you seem like a nice enough guy. I never liked this store anyways. I don't own this place, I just work here...or WORKED here." We load the supplies into our car and wish the old man well, to which he replies "Well. Noone will be well after this, but thanks anyways."

On the way home we see an overturned Ford Focus in a ditch next to a smashed up Police Cruiser(obviously they collided at high speed, but the cruiser still looks drivable). I see the officer hauling himself out of his driver's side window, bloodied and bruised. I know that this may be a mistake but I have my mom switch into the driver's seat and I tuck my .40 into the back of my pants and get out to check on the officer. I approach cautiously and ask him if he is okay. He's leaning up against what's left of his cruiser, and warns me to stay where I am as he reaches for his sidearm. I hold my hands out and step back, assuring him that I mean no harm and that I am not infected. "Is there anything you need...anyone I can call?" He laughs, then grimaces and grabs for his stomach,"I need this to be over" He says, "And I need some god damn backup.""You look pretty bad man," I joke, "I have a first aid kit in the car, let me help...""NO!" He interrupts firmly, "Nothing against you but I'd rather us keep our distances. You just get in your car and get the fuck wherever you're headed...and stay there." I nod and slowly walk to my car, rifle through the FAK and pull out some medical tape, a roll of gauze, and some assorted band-aids. I put these in a baggie and turn back, throwing them to the officer. He laughs, "Thanks. I guess even when the rest of the world goes to shit there's still some good in it." I get in my car and we head back home.

Most of the radio stations are switched to a man reciting disaster procedures. I tune to NPR to hear:

"I repeat, All these major cities in the southeast are being quarantined for your safety. Please stay indoors and cooperate with all military and government representatives. Please hang a white sheet on the front door of your home to indicate that no ocupants are infected. The NG is issuing a mandatory curfew for all residents in the following cities: Atlanta, Birmingham, Huntsville...."

The report goes on to indicate almost every average or larger sized city in the southeast.

As we get home we pass a house on our street and hear gunshots from inside, with what appears to be a struggle going on. I wish them luck and speed to our house, where I park in the back yard and we go inside.
"My first two warning shots are aimed center of mass. If that don't warn them I fire warning shots at their head until they are warned enough that I am no longer in fear for my life."

The night was calm on day three, calm till one mother of a thunderstorm hit. We see on the news a report of a tornado in Albert Lee Minnesota, its not far enough away from us for comfort, but its not affecting us at this time. We decide to move the supplies to the basement just in case and continue on with the planning from there. We got an update call from Gamer, the only missing brother from the group. He lives with his wife in Indiana in one of the suburbs. All they have is a Ruger 10-22 with a little ammo, food and watter they got stocked up on Tripwires recommendation before the rush, and a lot of wine, that they already had. Were hoping to get them here but not being prepared for, well anything that leaves us in the lurch for now. Not to mention an ever increasing military presence and a rather lot of infected filling the distance between us and them.

We also hear on the news Gov Culver pleading with people to not to panic; "the Government is coming to help us in this time of crisis, I ask all Iowans to be calm, and not to interfere with police and National guards duties, they will provide our security and the security for those from the CDC trying to help." What a panzy, to bad they couldn't have waited to strike till after the election.

In hopes of finding a way to gamer, and wile we still have internet I'm busy printing off maps to get to Indy, and any thing else we might need. I already figure the main roads are blocked off and any city is to be avoided. Hell the gravels are probably being guarded by farmers now to. If we cant get them to us or us to them there doomed, they kick ass at left for dead 2, but in reality we need to help them. Till something is figured out there boarded in and as secured as can be.
I might be in the basement. I'll go upstairs and check.

Day 2 8pm

Part of the group left for Sams and Costco to see if it’s possible to buy some supplies. They split up and are hitting the 2 Wal-Marts in town as well as both Lows and Home Depots. Hope they don’t run into any trouble.

Things I wish I had the money to have bought/done before this happened.
PV solar panels
Nickel/Iron batteries for the PV
More storage food (I didn’t think there would be this many people to show up)
2nd generator
DC well pump to work with a solar panel and stock tank for water
500 acre ranch for BOL (My little BOL is really only good for immediate family and only short term at that)
Well, you can’t squeeze blood from a stone. Can’t squeeze cash from one either. No since in dwelling on it now.

After POTUS address I take stock of the group. It now consists of the following;
Me
Mom + Significant Other
Sister + Husband, son 8, son 4
Brother
My SO + 2 young adult sons
Friend + Wife, daughter 6
Friend + Pregnant Wife, Daughter 3
Friend + SO
Ex + my son 6
Ex-In-Laws + my son’s great grandmother (terminal but up and around)

In addition to group; SO’s mother and brother and friends of friends equaling 4 able bodied men and 6 able bodied women in various parings plus 3 more children 1, 8, 13.
31 adult mouths and 8+1 children’s. Group members brought an average of 3 months food and 2 weeks water each. Moochers brought practically nothing useful but clothes and bedding. Several had to be sent back home for those. I estimate they have 5 days worth of food each between them making about 20 days worth of group food and my long term stores gives a group this size about 10 more days for a months worth of 2000 Calorie days for everyone. Not looking good. We need the store run to work out in our favor.
(Tired to assume for moderate case rather than best or worse)
We also don’t have much space even in a 4 BR house. We start discussing our options until after dark. As the night draws close the local news about the Hospital keeps getting worse. Things have spread into downtown Spartanburg. The police are loosing control and most of the National Guard is deployed in Columbia and the few that are this far north are concentrated at the intersections of I26 from Columbia at I85 and Hwy 29.
We decide we can’t stay here.
One of the companies I do work for has a small industrial building that we used for receiving, configuring, and shipping equipment for branch offices. It is out in the middle of nowhere on a piece of property they were going to build a large industrial complex on that never got under construction. This and one other unoccupied building are all that are on the 25 acres. It is a cement slab building that is surrounded by 6’ chainlink topped with barbed wire about 100 yrds on each side. It’s a little deeper than wide. There are no windows and 3 doors, 2 steel security doors with internal bars and one large rollup door large enough to pull a UPS delivery truck into. Because the owner was on a green kick when it was built it has grid tied solar and since none of the infrastructure was put in place it is on a well and septic. That is one reason that it is empty, the septic severely limits what the building can be used for according to the county. For the last year it has just been being used to house pallets of paper files. There is about 3000’ sqft of open warehouse space and 2000’ sqft of empty offices on two levels on the right side opposite the rollup door. The other steel door is in the stairwell inside the office space and opens up to the outside in the back of the building. Each of the two office floors has 6 offices about 10’sq except on the upper floor 2 offices are a bit smaller and one a bit larger. There are 2 restrooms on each floor and there is a basement under the office space with a breakroom and workout room with lockers and 2 showers. Since I was given keys I have legal possessive interest at the property. The only problem with this location is that we will need to cross over I85 to get there.
We are planning on leaving tonight and traveling in the cover of darkness. Planning will take a while. I’ll post again when I can. Internet is getting spotty and cell service is erratic.
