Truth be told... we don't know. The popular mentality floating around the board is that if you're prepared for a zombie outbreak, you're prepared for anything.
We've yet to determine whether or not a zombie is even real. I'm not saying it'll never happen, nor am I saying it's impossible... I just think it's improbable.

Yeah, and to add to Nicklefish, this forum is actually A LOT more fun in survival and PAW prep BECAUSE we talk about Zombies. Whether or not zombies will ever walk the earth, I have become a much more mentally prepared person with all the scenarios, contigencies, BOBs, and other discussions going on.

No.

The dead will not walk the earth.

But that being said, it's a fun fantasy to prepare for, much more fun then something boring like looters after a hurricane, or a invasion by a foreign country, aliens... etc...

Just don't get too caught up mmmkay?

I wouldn't go THAT far...
The disciples of God himself wrote:The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. Rev. 20-5

I know this is used completely out of context, but I mean c'mon! It's in the freakin Bible of all things! I mean, I'm not really what you'd call a God fearin man, but still.
*EDIT* I'm not saying that the dead in question will be flesh hungry monsters. Just to clarify.

The poor DMV saps...

But in response to the biblical line of reasoning, when was the last time you saw a miracle? or heard of one? The "miracles" we hear about are usually just religious scams... I'm more a science person, and with my fundamental understanding of science, i just don't see how it is physically possible for the dead to walk... Human life is so fragile, just to be animated a million things have to going exactly right.

That being said, there are things that I don't understand, and that science may never understand going on out there. My rational mind whichs tells me the chances of zombies walking around are slim, will also be able to tell me "holy crap! It's a zombie" should i ever encounter one

:)

And to be honest, it's one of the reasons I used to justify me getting a evil black rifle, yay!

I don't think zombies will ever walk the earth. But as it's been said before here, it's good to be prepared for any scenario. The people of New Orleans probably didn't think that anything like Katrina would ever happen to them, but it did. It'd good to be prepared for the worst.

I think in all likelyhood, biological super-weapons will wipe out the human race, leaving the world behind for the apes to rule. I mean, we have missles that can hit a fly on the wall of Chow Mein's bunker over there and we think it will come to the point where we will be alive to see another century?

DISCLAIMER - I am NOT discussing religion or what religion is right, or discounting anyone's religious beliefs, I am only going to speak of a couple occurances I witnessed that speaks to the question of the possibility of modern day miracles.

While working in the church I saw a couple who was on the verge of divorce put their marriage back together after coming to Christ...

I saw another man give up a life of drugs and booze abuse and get himself cleaned up and back on track after giving his life to Christ...

I saw a 19 year old former prostitute find peace and was finally able to forgive herself after coming into a relationship with Christ, and was reunited with her estranged family...

Miracles you ask? I dont know if these are what you would call modern day miracles, but if you ask these folks they would tell you they experienced a miracle.

In response to the question about real zombies... I think they are within the realm of whats "possible" but if we were to see a "zombie outbreak" I think it would be more likely to be like what was seen in the movie "28 Days" where the RAGE virus infected the earth.

I agree with Bear about miracles, but,

No, zombies do not, nor will they in the foreseable future, exist.

Zombies existing, I highly doubt.

But, if you can survive a massive outbreak of zombies, you can survive many more things.

I'm a die-hard survivalist. I'm about getting ready for the end of the world, and keeping me and my family safe. I'm NOT in the "zombies are real" camp (I've seen a few posts where people think they ARE).

But this is one of the very best survival sites I know of. Why? Because it's about learning what you need in the absolute worst case senario. I think the dead walking and eating my friends while MZBs are trying to kill me and take my stuff is a pretty bad senario.

In answer to the origianl question? NO, I don't think that zombies will walk the earth. IF it ever dead, it wouldn't really be "the dead", just the infected like 28 Days Later. That's just my opinion though.

NOooooooo.

You blasphemers :P

I think nickelfish said it best. It's not impossible, but very improbable.

With regards to miracles. I know they exist.

Ah, i agree with you about religion doing good for people, i've seem some amazing stuff that religion has brought into people's lives.

However, i'm talking about physical miracles, like Jesus walking on water, coming back from the dead, etc. Maybe Jesus did do that 2000 years ago, but as of late there have been no recorded "scientific" miracles in which something occured that utterly defied conventional scientific reasoning.

The dead coming back to life? That'd defy conventional scientific reasoning. It could happen for whatever reason, but it God, the Devil, or Aliens from outer space wanted it to, but the chances are pretty dang slim. Like, it's more likely that everyone here wins a milllion bucks in the lottery then zombies walking... and i'd prefer that everyone here won a million bucks!!!

Hey, I'm working on it. It's turning out to be a little harder than I thought.
The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices, to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all its own...

I believe it's not a matter of if but when. Partially because of high school escapist fantasies of someone who listens to a lot of heavy metal and plays a lot of video and roleplaying games. And partially because that since the Bible (though I'm not of the faith), Nostrodomus, and many others have made allusions to it.... Welllllll....

To tell the truth, the PAW won't be all bad. It gives humanity a clean slate. It may give some people meaning and purpose to their lives. A lawless society has perks (once people begin living in peace). Once you look at it from a glass-half-full perspective, it's something you want to be ready for so you can enjoy it after the zombies are gone.

Plus it gives me an excuse to get a bunch of cool toys like the "big kids" around the boards, once I'm past being a minor. ;)

Observation for those of you wanting/needing to justify your "survivalist outlook": It's what's kept us alive long enough to evolve into a species capable of true self-destruction ie; Nagasaki & Hiroshima.

Post-self-ahnilalation-capable Man has had constant nightmares about his newfound talent. See any Godzilla movie. Read "The Andromeda Strain" or "The Stand".

Dumas never wrote about the end of the world, just factions embarassing one another. Cervantes' Hero threatened nothing more than an innkeeper, a windmill, and an ideology. Even Homer's Heroes did no more than sack the occasional city-state, blind an outcast from Vulkan's forge, lay a couple'a would-be witch-chicas and chomp some lotus weed.

Modern Man holds not only the key to his own ahnilalation in his hand, but enough understanding of the universe to know that His End may come at any moment from some unexpected and uncontrollable quarter; See (the movie) "Armageddon" , "Outbreak", "Dr, Strangelove", "Damnation Alley" (Read the book), Or read...

Fuck, on this line I might as well mention Vogons and intergalactic bypasses. I'm retiring to my bottle of Merlot and letting the world go to hell (with the understanding that I'm Not going quietly... Oh yeah, see my motto)

I've been reading The Stand lately..... One of King's best works, in my opinion. Funny: I haven't finished it yet, but so far, I've been just WAITING for the thousands of plague dead to begin walking....

Otherwise, the book is all the scarier with the bird flu and such going around.
