I agree that a horde for a large moving group, stagger if its a small group staggering around  , hive if they've settled somewhere, and target if they're visible to me.

If the zeds are on the move then a horde, if not then a nest. Works for me, but I've passed a good bit of time enjoying everyone's responses.

I read a story a while back that called them Bangs.

The specifics were a little different but the idea was that the whole thing ended with a BANG.

Mindless Zombies
Gaint wandering group - Horde (or alternatively a Clusterf*** of zombies)
Small wandering group - A few zombies

If they form up in one area and create their own "civilization" and have a bit of intelligence (or a hive mind thing)
Gaint Group - Colony or Hive (Maybe a Mindf*** of zombies? ...no guess that joke only works once)
Small Group - Pack
Without humans this world could have thrived. With them it was destined to fall. Humans turned the question from if to when.

If you believe the 'Urban Dictionary' it's "Shamble."

I vote for a Shamble of Zombies...
Or a Grimm of Ghouls.

I like the term MUSTERING for Zombies.

It sounds like Monstering but not quite.

Group of Zombies - A 'Decay' of Zombies
Example: 'Don't go near that assisted living facility, a Decay of Zombies lives there.'

But I like Shamble and Stagger too.
Example: 'Don't go near that gas station, there is a Shamble of Zombies over there.'
Example: 'Don't go near that Walmart, a Stagger of Zombies has been rumored to shop there.'

... or 'Drudge'

Proper name for a group of zombies?

Postby Bostoned » Wed May 16, 2012 4:34 pm

Has anyone suggested "cluster-f*ck" yet? I like to use that in a number of different ways but I think it would work in this scenario as week.

Jeez, in eight years this hasn't been resolved? Has anyone suggested an "infestation" of zombies?

No, wait: "A putrescence of Zombies?"

Or maybe it varies by number, "outbreak" refers to 1-5 in an isolated spot, "infestation" 5 - 50 scattered throughout a more generalized area, and "horde" = 50 or 100 or more, massed together and moving in the same general direction across the landscape.

Or, or, for the undead/back from the grave variety, a "resurrection" or a "disinterment" of Zombies?

I would just call them what they looked like.
For example:
"Oh shit! Half naked face fucker is coming for a visit!"
"A big group o' shitters are over there."
"How many times have I told you? Shoot the asschompers in the HEAD!"
"Kim Jong-Il lookin' douche outside the door."

has anyone discussed the parameters of possible zombie physiology related to predatory acticity? i.e. hunting and targeting, and the possible methodology of sensory activity? also, i agree that the use of the term horde is accurate, but pack or swarm would also be accurate.

I agree that different amounts should have different names, but what if there are two different behavior types for zombies? A la The walking dead? Some actively 'roam' (ie, walkers), and some just sit or remain in one place until they see you (lurkers)... Should they have different terms? I also like the idea of using words that will remind us of a better time period, before everything goes to hell...

I propose, for lurkers-
1-5, Childsplay to handle, Lurker, or 'Camper' (throwback to video games)
Dozen or two, give or take ie, a manageable number- 'Office' (as was mentioned)
25-100, or an unmanageable number- Fubat (I liked that one)

And for the 'roamers'/'walkers'
5-20, Stagger (since they move around more)
20-50, Horde/Herd
50+ Shitstorm

Of course they'd be somewhat interchangeable, the roamer terms could be applied to all... I just think they should be differentiated... Like Bees- Standing still? A hive. Attacking? A swarm.

If we say Hive it makes me think that they're a "Hive Mind" (assuming that they don't think together). Swarm makes sense to me, because they're mindless drones wandering around amongst each other to a common goal.
