Bushmaster is running their sale on the 450B uppers again. If you are looking for a big bore AR platform this is an easy way to get into one. It fits directly onto your standard AR-15 lower. It comes with 5 round magazine. Standard steel magazines can be converted rather easily.

At $499 you can't go wrong.

I am not saying that this is the best big bore option, however with Hornady and Remington makeing ammo it makes it more affordable and findable. 458 socom and 50 Beowulf ammo is hard to find, and if you do find it be prepared to pay out the nose for it. YMMV

I work for an oil company so I am not affiliated with any of these companies. I went with the 450B based on availabilty and affordability. My local gun shop even carries 450B ammo at $28 per 20.

I just can't think of a use for it. Hell, I take boars with xM193 (one shot kills). I used to have a .458socom but sold it because it did cost $1.50 to pull the trigger. Looks cool as the day is long (and that is a great deal) but I just can't see a practical use for it.

Really folks, if you don't have something to contribute, consider not posting. The snarky comments are just annoying.

i know your razing me but...... it is really annoying especially since there is a fairly small "big bore AR" following its almost always internet commandos who have never even seen a .450/.458/.50 Beo in person.

I've yet to be told "you should have gotten a [x]" by a SOCOM or bushmaster owner, unless its just in jest.

all 3 do about the same thing all 3 have pros and cons :)

I for one would like to own all 3

ETA: not calling you or anyone in this thread a commado just ranting

Thanks for posting this rugger16.

I have always liked this idea of the big bore AR. The 450B is probably going to be the 'winner' because of the more available ammo. The 450B is basically 85 to 90 % of the 45-70, but in a semi auto package. Sounds great, but in terms of energy at distance, the 308 Win has the same at 450 or so yards than the 450B does at 200 yards. I have 2 FALs and ammo stashed for them. I still want a 450B though.

Where I hunt there are lots of trees and the need for long range shots is very low. Therefore I will use the 450B for hogs and deer. If I do go somewhere that requires long range equipment I have other options to go to.

I agree that there are hundreads of other weapons that can fill this role, but I like the idea of hunting with a large bore AR.

And as I stated in the original post YMMV.
