WASR-10 problems

I have a slightly modified WASR-10 with some nice Tapco parts http://www.tapco.com/proddesc.aspx?Id=739002be-3d63-43e1-8dc4-0e56d97015c8
minus the grip but everything else is the same plus two mounting rails one on top and one top right. My problem is that when I'm at the range and shooting quickly on semi auto I often get a stovepipe jam where the bolt closes on the spent round, usually sideways. Any ideas, I'm shooting wolf through it.

Check to make sure it is pretty clean and the gas port isn't fouled or drilled off-center. Also, check out this site: http://www.gunsnet.net/Linx310/ How many rounds do you have through the gun? It sometimes takes a couple hundred before all the "high spots" are worn down and the rifle functions smoothly.

Clean it. If there's enough cosmoline still in the action it can gum it up. Lube it with Remoil or some similar light oil to reduce gunking and fouling after a good cleaning. Try new mags in it too.

My second question is, what kind of mags are you running? Are the jams happening when it's feeding from a given side of the magazine or both sides of the magazine? Are you using the magazine as a monopod (resting it on the ground) or holding the magazine when you fire?

That's what I was going to ask. Also, check your ejector to make sure it isn't worn down. Shooting steel-cased ammo, which just about everyone will do with an AK, wears down the ejector fairly fast.

for one thing if your shooting a WASR I suggest making sure you mag is firmly seated. when your AK lacks those nifty dimples and wobbles around on ya, it might just cause stovepipes.

Not shooting hollow points and the mags are factory, also not using the mag as a handle. Although the mag does seem to wiggle around a small amount from time to time.

In my experience, unless your mag is basically wobbling out, it's probably not the problem. I'd say either ejector or break-in.

Just curiously, what's the problem with shooting hollowpoints through these?

try breaking the bolt down and cleaning the extractor. Every WASR I've run across has had cosmo gunked up like crazy in there.

Gas block could be canted so much as to not allow a full cycle as well.

Any cant on the GB at all?

I have the same problem with my GP WASR-10. It is flawless except when I am really trying to empty a mag as quickly as possible. I would say when the round count gets up to the 6 rounds per second range. Is there a way to correct the timing issue that you brought up.

My WASR10 was a jamomatic for about the first 3-400 rounds. It also doesnt like the yugo bolt hold open mags too much either or hollow points. Any other mags and FMJ ammo runs good tho. It might just need to be broken in a bit more.
