All these nice trips are making me itchy to blow some stink off. Lately I have been hammered on the job like an old nail but I think I see a window cracking open a bit and if it does give me a wee crack I'm gone. Hopefully I can catch the last of this years snow. Because hey, what's a summer exercise with out a little snow.

OK, finally got my 2nd trip posted. Same location as my first entry. Worked out great as a BOL for the South Carolina gang. I honestly can't describe just how much fun we had!

That Pizza did look good. I'm gonna have to give that a try!

I've got another Bug Out in the works. Hopefully, I'll get it done soon and posted.

Right now, I'm fighting off some nasty head/sinus crud I got, probably from flying last week.

Anybody seen my Mucinex DM?

Ahhhhh, make it stop!

And yes, they are absolutely delicious  (oh look, there are new smiley-face thingys, how cute...)

Had a great overnighter with another couple and a bunch of dogs via boat last night. Found a nice little island with a sandbar, code name Tarawa, to conduct our amphibious escape. The only problem, we had waaaay too much beer to dispose of and forgot to take pics :vmad: I guess it never happened.

Oh, and now my phone doesn't work.

Man, I've written another Spring Bug Out and I'm working on getting my photos done for it. It looks real good to me. I hope you will all like it when I can finish it and post it.

This one will have actual Zombies in it and is an Urban Bug Out!

It's a short story with a cast of 6, counting myself. Now I just need to find the right other 5 people.

I am enjoying reading everyone's entries. Keep up the good work.

BTW, Happy Father's Day Zombie Squad.

It was more of a result of my buddy's ghetto bow-fishing boat almost going Titanic with our packs and coolers full of "provisions". Apparently boats work better with the drain plug in

It's all good though, no dogs or beer were lost (oh yeah, or girlfriends either).

Medic--looking forward to the video!

Typing up draft for my MBOII entry with my Dad. He did pretty good for a 70 year old man... but we also learned what his limits are - crawling in and out of tents and rain. He's spent enough time outside in rain so when it came Saturday night and went well into Sunday morning his misery reared up. Good trip though and he kept his spirits up. I also learned a lot about the learning curve of hammocks. I tated how good it could be, but I need to work on my recipe some before I can make it on my own :)

Main points detailed in my entry (to be up by tonight) is:
Dad can do it, if he has to, at 70 years old.
The old surplus Swedish Rucksack is, suprisingly, a very comfortable pack.
Hammocks have a break-in period.
To get a fire going - just relax and let the fire do what it does.

I finally got some time to get out there and work on my spring MBO and the wildfires are running rampant here in Colorado and the heat isn't helping the situation. Seems to be no forcast for rain until Thursday night and that is only a %20 chance of showers where I will be going. Guess I am going to have to go without a fire. I wonder how that is going to affect my entrys chances for serious consideration by the judges because I know that they are judged based on the skills you show and fire is one of those skills. At least it is probably the only skill I am good at so I was going to lean heavily on that LOL just kidding  but its kind of a bummer to go on a 3 day trip and not have a fire. Guess I am going to have to compensate for the loss of that luxury LOL

Love the entries that have been submitted already. Going to be tough to measure up let alone beat some of you guys.

Im more excited to get out there than I am anything and watching the other entries just fuels that excitement even more

Well... see ya in the hills!
May ma nature always be at your side and not behind you where she can stab ya in the back LOL  (cant remember where I heard that lol at before but I heard it somewhere bushcraft related)

I'm not a judge but I wouold be incredibly impressed by someone that went fireless and still accomplished some basics like boiling water and warmth ... which is completely doable.

Ninja,

Enjoyed the first part of your trip post.

That Finn bag looked slick, especially tricked out with the BCUSA patch, I've been considering that same bag for my day kit. Also looked like you got a chance to knock out a few tasks for the basic cert., which is awesome.

Glad to see your dad tagged along. My pop and I never went camping or hiking, I wish we would have, he was more of a garage tinkerer than a woods bum, but he still taught me the basics for living in the field.

Looking forward to the rest of your outing.

RE BCUSA:
One thing I did "knock out" was the fact I am horrible at feather sticks

The other BCUSA stuff I did I had horrible pics of so will not be submitting those for credit. forgot to pack my real camera and only had my iPhone. Practice was done though. That twig bundle fire amazed my ass, I had never done that - always with the teepee/cabin fire lays - and it was totally easy. Even my Dad, who grew up in Texas/Eastern OR and BSA, was amazed to see how well that worked.

Basically I just bundled up that bunch of twigs and semi dry moss, tied it all off with a thin green maple twig to hold it together, shoved a pinch of PJ cotton ball in the middle, held it all between my knees while standing over the log lay, lit it with a match, waved it in the air a bit, let it burst into flames, dropped it on the log lay. 10 minutes later had a self sustaining fire.

The Finn bag? It's handy but not the answer to all my haversack needs. It will work, just don't over load it. I like it well enough but it could be better. I'm interested in it's durability. Right now it is my "woods EDC". Day hike to 5 day packing trip, that bag is with me in the woods.

That Swede pack? I love that fuckin thing. The only mod I am going to do to it is change out the draw cord at the top, it's some thick oiled hemp cord now that is a bit "sticky" and I know why it is like that. Just going to modernize that with some paracord and a spring stopper thingy... or maybe not and I can just keep it all old school. 8-)
