Alright, after plenty of PMs and beer--the SC crew is fully briefed, coordinated, and ready to RV at a BOL!

52 lbs! In Florida! I hope you're packing a keg :D

Mine was 57 with 1 gal water on an ALICE Hellcat, and man I gotta tell you, the first thing I did was get it down to 25 without water/food... been looking at some commercial gear to drop more weight... LOL

57? Yikes! Odd, it looked like you had a pretty low-weight rig... I sure understand about saving $, I usually just keep a "slush fund" in a jar. Every now and then I wind up with enough cash to get something cool. Also, be sure to peruse the for sale sections of sites like hammockforums, whiteblaze, and bushcraftusa . I have found some amazing deals on solid, lightweight gear on all those sites.

Check out Omega Mans Winter bag. He has some serious, and seriously lightweight gear in there. I got to check the whole rig out last night, and it was approx 30# with food and water. Unbelievable.
I have no witty quotes at the moment.

In the WMBO trip I posted my rucksack, loadbearing rig and shotgun/ammo weighed in at 80 lbs (80-82ish) but i intentionally didn't use most of my high speed, lightweight kit. Even with lightweight gear its hard to get a really lightweight pack when your AO is in the snow and cold, of course you then have the option to haul a toboggan but I wanted to use just a pack for my WMBO trip.

My winter kit MBO I carried was 18 lbs with 1.5 liters of water. Someone at work asked what the cost was and the retail total was almost $1500. (daaaaamn!) Glad I don't pay retail. The sleeping bag was the only thing I didn't get a deal on.
I remember the good ol' days 30 years ago when I had about $100 in my kit but it weighed 50 lbs. Had just enough stuff to not die as long as the temp stayed above 40 degrees. Now 20 degrees is a good temp and I stay warm.
The first lightweight cook kit I saw was 60 dollars, wondered who in the hell would pay that. Bought a 2 liter MSR titanium pot for 50 and was overjoyed at the bargain. My how things change.

Adding weapons and ammo will absolutely push the weight up, thats for sure. I think the largest caliber I would carry in my bag would be .22LR, and thats only if it was the lightweight model!

I seriously doubt I could get anywhere with an 80# pack. Those days are way behind me.

EDIT: LOL Flying Lead. Yea, Ti and 800 fill goose down are my heroes.

The shotgun, ammo and cleaning kit added a good 10-12 lbs, there certainly might be lighter options then what I was carrying but you are so correct in that weapons and ammo weight adds up quick! The pack didn't feel bad as it was in the 60 lb range and the weight was distributed through the loadbearing rig somewhat, the pack had a so-so waist belt so it did transfer weight to my hips fairly well which is vital when carrying heavy packs. Still did feel heavy :D

The one item I didn't have to haul around was water, plenty of it lying around in a solid state :D The weight of H2O does add up!

made it back alive!

i would consider this one of my best / funest trips yet. the small game hunting was a success, and yes an animal was harmed during this trip... it was either him or me, just sayin 8-)

we hooked up with a guy from BCUSA and it was a pleasure to meet him, a really great/knowledgeable guy. i have a BUNCH of video's and pic's to upload. i hope i can get it all done and do a write up this evening.

my pack dropped about 13 pounds according to the scale when i got back. i had 7 quarts of water with me and came back with a little more than a 1/2 quart, and its a REALLY good thing i didnt skimp on the water i packed in. also i took a tent and some extra stuff i dont normally take, plus the CFP-90 weighs a shit ton all its own.

I added stuff last minute like a ninny muffins... I saw omega mans kit... Looks good but way out of my current price range... I have a list of kit in order or necessity first and foremost a hiker pro filter... Secondly a GOOD pair of boots, then nick back stuff... 1606AC frame, bk14 knife, wengers ranger 58, picked up a gsi halulite minimalist to save some cook gear space, then wanna get a kelty Noah 9 tarp, and either diy a wbbb hammock or get a skeeter beater... Anyone with good leads at bargain basement prices hit me up lol... After all that I can get nit picky about weight in other areas...

I'm really hoping for some snow on my MBO; but, 8ft! No thank-you. BTW, awesome trip.

Thanks! I had a lot of fun doing it. Certainly learned a lot at any rate. I love getting 'out there' but this trip absolutely taught me the value of being able to get back out before you have to resort to things like snow caves.
