Anybody catch this? Kind of a "building a new society from scratch but with tech support" show. Looks promising.

Earth, in 20something, is pretty much done because of overpopulation, which is a very scary and guaranteed event in itself (google "population J curve"). They figure out how to send people back in time to prehistoric earth in a separate time stream, so that what they do won't affect the future they came from. Lots of dinos, some rebels, and they get regular supplies (small stuff like meds, people, ammo, vehicles) sent through a portal. Resources are still a big deal, as iron ore is traded for important stuff pretty early on. The settlement is set up like some of the things we discuss on here.

Thoughts?

I thought it was pretty good. Better than the premiere of Falling Skies. Gives me a Jurassic Park kind of feel. I'll definitely give it a chance.

The trailers are LOL funny. If a seperate time stream, why be dino bait? That's where it fell apart for me.

No, being smart enough for time travel but so stupid as to make ones self into dino bait. Earlier or later would have made far more sense.... But it is TeeVee, and smart doesn't always make a good story.

I guess they could have traveled to 2000 and been grizzly bear, shark, lion, panther, mosquito, and AIDZ bait.

Oh, I gotcha. Yes, that would make more sense. The whiskey is creating comprehension issues.

ETA - Monkey, yeah, there's dangers all throughout history. Might have been more interesting if they'd waited till some cavemen were around or something. But I like the dinos. I thought the writing was going to be from aliens at first. Might have made for a better story. May still be. Who knows.

What I don't get is why they go back to dino time when they know 65 million years before they left they are gonna get bitch slapped with a big ass meteor.

However it does explain The Ancients in Stargate if they just build some hyperspace capable transgalaxy ships :D

Or you know, a portal that uses 7 pinpoints to locate another portal for instant transportation anywhere...

1. You're over thinking this
2. Dinos make a better story than rebuilding along side cavemen
3. There was a time travelor show in the 90s where you could only go back X number of years (20ish?), no sooner, no later, so I imagine they'll fill that hole the same way. Something about could only get into that one seperate string and it happens to be 600 million (or what ever) years behind so it was the only option. Boom. Plot hole closed.

I'm not going to complain. It's part Survivor (out type of Survivor, not the reality show) and part Sci Fi lets shoot up big bad monsters. Sounds cool to me.

They found a wormhole. They can't control where it leads, they can only make use of it.

Would you have preferred a phone booth or DeLorean in the story?

As Kevin stated they didn't pick the time, I was wondering if I was the only one that understood them, they where speaking english after all. The amusing part is the group of outlaws and the fact that they could all be hunted down and eliminated but aren't.

When I saw the previews I chuckled at the fact one of those travelers is named LUCY - Now we know why her remains are one of the earliest humanoids

I watched the 2hr premier episode and found it entertaining. Sure there are a lot of plot holes, but they have already let on that everything is not as it seems. If you couldn't read between the lines, the guys son is alive, but not with the other crew. He knows something that neither group wants to admit. What he knows is [shock]it isn't a different time stream[/shock]. The "good guy" leader, whether he knows it or not, is just a puppet for those back in the current time. Later on, I suspect some of the higher ranking people from the future are going to start coming over now the others have put in all the sweat to make the place habitable. Of course I could be wrong, but if not, you heard it way back on 9/28/2011 and no I didn't find a rip in the time/space to go back in time to post this information

I don't get how they were able to go back in time with awesome medical gadgetry, and new weapons, but the weapons bringing so much suck to the party. We have weapons today (like bunker busters) that would turn the dinosaurs into hamburger in one shot!

Alright, I'm no terranova expert, but I did listen to the show. The time stream is non negotiable. It goes to the dino era and none other. It is a time stream separate from our own, so it will not end up where they left their time. Remember they sent the probe back and it was never found?

I didn't like how busy the show was on the first premier. They should have saved that splinter group for the 3rd or 4th show. It was a bit ridiculous to do it right away. Same thing goes for the kids getting stuck as dino bait. The show should have opened up with how beautiful the area is, that people are still being people - crime and all that and that they're thriving with typical problems. Beyond that, I think they made it too busy. Good job at showing the destroyed world, but the rest of the attempt at a franatic plot development should have waited.

I'm DVRing it, so I'm hopeful.

Dukman hit the nail on the head with his camouflaged spoiler. I'm still thinking aliens might come into it somehow. But the survival and establishing a community with the danger of raiders aspect is kind of what is interesting to me. Everybody knows the best place to get info is from TV.

This show opens with several stories at the same time.
Can be dangerous, but it sometimes works out.

And the markings on the stones, as claimed they are older, so the captains son went even further in time? How did this happen?

Questions over questions that are waiting for an answer.
