I just thought maybe in depth questions might be better in another thread.

Let me ask a moderator for suggestions.
Will modify this post with any answer. :)

Oh. I just re-read your post to quote it with another response to it and see I skipped that first part of you sentence abt the "Wasn't meaning to insult you" or I would have said something way earlier. I never felt insulted, ever ever. I just, being a rather new poster to ZS in general and MJofZY in particular, thought I might have posted inappropriately for the followers of this thread. Typing can be so illusionary when it comes to what a poster's intent is can't it. I was 'reading' possible faux pas on my part from the responses, you 'read' I might feel a bit insulted. Talking in type isn't always clear is it. Sorry for not saying something earlier. That first part of your post just flew right past me on my first run thru.

AND, the reason I was posting to you again is that I have probably found that the answer has already been covered by Kathy in Fl herself in the thread because I'm now running into more than a few times readers have asked her questions like mine about something in her story here, and she, herself, posted answers and clarifications. And I thank you for taking the time to assist me anyway. :)

Yeah, the site search function isn't very good, so one's better-off using Google:

Thanks. Now I've done so. Now I've also copied the Zombiespeak acronyms to a Word document for quicker access.

Oh. And I was going to update the Wiki with acronyms I saw that weren't there, turned off my cookie blockers, used my same id and pw as here, still couldn't get Wiki to let me in. It says I have to join ZS. That I can post here means I've joined, right? Anyway the acronyms are WWYD, LOS, and OSA if anyone thinks they go on the Wiki acronym list, or can tell me how to update it myself.

Hope all is well with you and yours, Kathy in Fl, and when you get the chance I'll be happy to read MOAR! Please & thank you!

I have a question about the story.

On page three in the thread, in the post for Day Fifteen, 12 paragraphs down Sissy writes:

"On the off chance that such a group does manage to make it passed our security some how, we’ve decided to try and hide our preps around the house. Scott is going to reinforce the beds and box springs and they will hold a lot of canned goods. We are also going to build a chase in my closet beside the air handler. It will be at the top and at an awkward angle and will look like insulated duct work. "

I have highlighted the sentence I do not understand. "We are also going to build a chase in my closet beside the air handler."

I do not know what a 'chase' is. I have looked in several on-line dictionaries and find nothing to clarify the meaning for me. Does anyone know what this 'chase' in her closet could be?

Basically she means either a false wall or tearing off the existing drywall and expanding the framing to make the gap between walls greater, usually used for when you need to run large conduit, pipes, or duct work inside a wall.

Well it took two and a half weeks but I have read the whole story. All I can say is it was as good the second time through as the first time I read it. As I keep saying Thank You Kathy for the great story. I will be looking forward to moar.

Thanks!

In the thread I was reading WWYD did indeed mean "What would you do?" LOS meant "Lights out scenario" and OSA meant "One second after". This stuff is sort of challenging for me to keep up with so I went to the ZS Wiki acronyms page to copy it for handier referral and found that not one of these three (WWYD, LOS, OSA) was even listed. Since the thread I was reading was using them as understood Zombiespeak but were not listed in the wiki for people like me who still need a guide to reading here I thought I'd add them. But I can't access a way to enter them in the wiki. Ah well, I've added them to my own list at least.

What does this disinfection station look like and consist of?

Google is your friend - besides, what is suitable for Sissy's family of 2 adults, 5 kids in Tampa suburbia isn't gonna fit my family of 2 adults, 2 babies, one preteen on a sub tropical Aussie farm, eh? Bit o'thinking, bit o'planning, and you too can figure out how to have a disinfection station that would suit you, right where you are ;) Don't try and copy. Use it as a springboard.

Right. Not wanting to copy. Wanting to understand and personally adapt if necessary or useful. I've now googled. Not finding information that is helping me understand how it could apply to me and on a very first level of what it is, how and why it is used. This may seem basic and clear to everyone else. Okay. I accept that. But it isn't basic and clear to me. And I want to learn.

You over-thought my response - and I was pressed for time and wasn't being very clear, sorry. I wasn't saying it was annoying, or that you shouldn't ask etc. Just making some general observations on dealing with the prep stuff in this most awesome of stories, yk? So much cool info, so many ideas. Not enough time ;) When you are just starting it's tempting to try and copy what others have done, and sometimes that doesn't make a great fit for your personal circumstances.

Have a think of it this way: what would be handy for you to have set up if you needed to disinfect yourself/your stuff every time you came into your house? Probably somewhere to strip down and put contaminated/dirty clothes, a shower, some disinfectant/sanitiser stuff, towels etc. And stuff to arm yourself before you go out - masks, gloves, overalls, goggles etc. Maybe you might need a cot to sleep in if you are quarantined out there for a bit, and so probably some easy to prepare food and water and some first aid stuff... I don't know if it's likely you'll find info on a home disinfection station on the interwebs, but if you looked up stuff about what they do for quarantine, what would make sense for you to have to provide as much protection as you can for the people inside the house, what kind of protocols you might need to make sure everyone is doing what they need to etc, then you could start to build an idea of what is going to work for you.

I'm terribly sorry if you thought I was suggesting you not ask questions. That wasn't my intent at all.

Not with Beth. She's like a sniper- running only means you die tired.

This is good stuff! Am now slowly formulating some plans because of your post. Getting a better pic in my mind how I can adapt this to my apartment dwelling self. With some unexpected solutions... even down to emergency stripping outer layer in the quiet hallway just outside my door (I rarely run into neighbors there so not expecting probs) disposing 'contaminated' garments in a pre-set up grocery bag before walking in, putting grocery bags in garbage bag just inside door, step out of boots onto newspaper pre-set up, placing boots in boot size tub at door with diluted bleach solution in quart juice jar setting beside it to spray down boots, having pre-set newspaper path to shower, scooping up papers into garbage bag after shower, then quick reshower to top it off. Needs refining but your post gave me the boost. Am starting to arm self with masks, gloves, goggles, and disposable over garments from thrift store, etc.

Thanks!

Finally caught up with the story to this point.
Honestly, some of the comments kinda of made me mad.
This is a great story. Kathy you have done some excellent work. (snuck a look at some of your other stories)
But, I can be a good little MOAR zombie and wait patiently for the next installment.
