Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can legally cut the butt stock now, and turn that into a pistol grip. The barrel just has to be 16" long until the NFA paperwork arrives. (and OAL 26")

I realize that sometimes its just easier to do it all at once, but if you get bored, I don't think there is anything stopping you from getting rid of that butt stock.

Uhm

Yea, there's a little bit about FEDERAL POUND ME IN THE ASS PRISON preventing me from chopping it right now.

Waiting on my lawyer to get back to me about my NFA trust. Then once that's finished, I can start the SBR paperwork.

I'm going to make it like the 'shopped (ms painted) pistol I linked a couple pages back.

That much is correct.

However i'd like to shoot it as-is a bit before hand.

It's virgin so far. Still in cosmoline. The seller said it was one of his collectors, he never fired it. He said he kept one that was a bit less pretty and had a poorer stock to shoot.

I haven't said shit in this thread yet, weird.
Anyway, yeah, this seems cool as fuck to me. I think it'd be more functional not cutting it down to a pistol and leaving the buttstock on for an SBR but hey, it's his gun.
I think it's quite a creative solution the Russians came up with about not having pistols. I would venture to guess there are more Moisins around then any other rifle. Whoopie, one gun gone to a cool historic project. Whaaa.
As far as a holster, I'm thinking shoulder holster. In the horizontal position.

Cross-draw mule holster with a couple or three stripper clips in a pouch on the non-dominant side?

So you're fucking up a Finn Mosin that aught not be fucked up.....well if you do it right you'll have the most elegantly desecrated classic firearm out there.....like.....for what that's worth....

I do have a C&R.

However, I will politely decline the 2 for 1 offer.

Also, Maybe I will leave the buttstock on at first. Nothing says I have to do all the mods at once. I think leaving the buttstock on and shopping the barrel and foregrip first would be more interesting than chopping it to a pistol grip with a full length barrel. Besides, that -would- be a harsh recoil on my hand. I recently shot some buckshot out of my 12ga 870 with a 18" or 20" barrel (I forget) with a pistol-grip-only. After two rounds I was -done- with that shit. I imagine a full length barrel with x54r would be similar. I'll cut the front first. Then head to the range and experiment. Then I'll chop it to a pistol grip and finish it. Should be more interesting.

Thanks for the idear Regular Guy.

You could get another stock to cut down and leave the one you have as full length.
If you thread the barrel, vortex FH will dispense with much of the fiery blast. Anyway, this project seems tits to me.

The vortex was brought up too.

The flash hider is mainly so I can get someone with a cool camera to take photos of me shooting it at dusk/night for awesome results. Kids use sparklers to make designs in the air. Real men use SBRs with flash hiders to make their fiery designs.

I will see if I can find a spare stock for cheap. This fuckin' gun is gonna have more accessories than a Ken doll by the time I'm 30...

I know I might be jumping on the bandwagon a bit late, but I have seen MN barreled action, sometimes with and sometimes without the bolt, at my local gun shows for not too much. I even bought an extra bolt for $15 complete at a show a few years back for a back up and for another project (see below).

I was thinking of building up a Mosin Nagant deer rifle in this manner. Buy the action, then a stock, etc as not to "bubba" an existing original.

Just an idea, someone may have already mentioned it.

And I do think a flash hider blasting hot firey gases in all directions would be cool.
