It would actually be my second AR build and the 1st one was way more involved than starting from that PSA kit. I spent a lot more money on the 1st one for my wife to make it lightweight for her than I can afford to spend on this.

Hey everybody,

I've been thinking I need a bigger pistol grip for my AR. I currently use a regular MOE, with a glock sock (Read: piece of inner tube) over it.

And It just feels too small, and I don't think I have enough purchase on it. I do have pretty big hands, and mainly really really long fingers.

So, my question is, does grip size relative to hand size actually make a difference? I mean, big huge guys seem to be able to use the a2 grip (apparently built for midgets) just fine.

If a bigger grip actually would make a difference for me, what one should I use?

Thanks guys.

When it comes to AR grips, size apparently does matter.

Anybody know if those MI FSB rails are compatible with a MOE fore-end? (Without trimming, obviously it could be trimmed to fit.)

I just slapped my old MI mount onto my .22 upper. Looks like it should work just fine:

Anyone know much about the cosmetic blem BCM lower packages? What exactly is the "blem" part?

http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-Lower-Receiver-Groups-M4-AR15-s/156.htm

I feel like that package isn't a bad price for basically a complete lower on a budget(ish) build.

Mostly the ones I have seen have been mild scratches or rough edges, and one that had some finish rubbed off on the inside of the trigger guard.

I can already imagine the responses but...

Wal-mart is selling DPMS sporticals for $597
For what it's worth my DPMS was 100% and sub MOA shooting AE223.
...

but since this is a "build" thread... I'll say:
PSA....$700
BCM Blem... $800ish

Does anyone know how the Seekins MCSR rail attaches the rifle? OEM barrel nut or proprietary?

Re: AR-15 pistol grips. For the longest time, I have been a "What are you complaining about, the A2 grip is fine!" kind of guy. But lately I have begun think that a different grip could offer actual, real advantages. These are:

1. A fatter grip would fill my giant man-bear-paws better, allowing me to more reliably repeat the exact same position of my finger pad on the trigger (helping accuracy), and
2. A more vertical grip angle would encourage a proper, elbows-in kind of stance.

I am torn between the MIAD, the MOE, and the BCM Gunfighter's Grip. The MOE is simple and probably better than the A2; if I had medium-sized hands there'd be no reason to go MIAD. (The MOE is apparently like a MIAD set up with med size backstrap.) But I have big hands and think I'd be better off with the MIAD so I could put the biggest backstrap on there and really fill my big man hands. I've become really conscious of the fact that the narrow A2 grip is too small for my meatpaws, and so my trigger finger is kind of free to wander around and hunt for the trigger like robin looking for a worm, which means I'm probably not using the exact same part of my finger each time, which is hurting accuracy. So I was shopping for a MIAD when I found this:

http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-GUN- ... -1-fde.htm

They make a big deal about that grip angle encouraging you to keep your elbows in, and I can see the advantage there, since a proper stance does feel kind of odd on my wrist with the A2 grip angle. But I googled "MIAD vs. BCM" or something and found this:

If the MIAD with the large backstrap is too small for you, you won't like the BCM. I have both versions of the BCM and I really like the feel and the angle, but its too small for me. It puts my hand to far forward and I have too much finger in the trigger guard.

I run the MIAD with the large backstrap. The LaRue is brand new so I know nothing about it.

http://www.ar15.com/mobile/topic.html?b=3&f=12&t=573552

It sounds like they're talking about my exact situation: too small a grip = too much finger in the trigger guard.

So I guess my question is, is there a grip out there that comes in my weird, crazy, giant, "jacking off a horse" size grip, but with a more vertical grip angle like a BCM?

And then there's this: http://tangodown.com/shop/product_info. ... cts_id=134
And this: http://www.laruetactical.com/larue-tactical-peg-grip

Great comparison photos on Page 2 of the Arfcom thread: http://www.ar15.com/mobile/topic.html?b ... 552&page=2

The APEG looks like (and is described as) it's designed for precision applications; will it suck for running around, elbows tucked in?
The Tango Down large looks pretty fat too, but the angle looks like it'd be weird on the wrist with elbows tucked in:

http://www.gunn-fighter.com/tango-down-bg17.html

Someone help! Please bear in mind I have giant fat monster hands, so normally I get way too much finger in the trigger guard.

(Or should I just wear my padded-palm bike gloves when shooting?)

Yah. I've got the same problem. I went with an Ergo for my first (current) build. It fits well, but the only real negative is the grip angle. If I grip it lower, it's just about perfect (but probably wrong). I'm looking for something more vertical right now. I like the look of the BCM, and I plan to order one soon. Never tried a MOE or MIAD myself.

I did try a Tangodown (regular flavor), and it had the same anorexic feel as the A2. The big version looks better, but seems to have the same angle.

ETA: Screw it. Just ordered a BCM mod 1 (the big flavor)

Have you looked at the Stark grip. They're not pretty, but it was nearly perfect for my fat hands and placed the pad of my finger on the trigger.
I believe Mossberg is using it on their AR-15s. It was great for bench shooting too.

The grip sat so low that there was almost no interference with an ambidextrous safety.

If you haven't checked it out... This months "Book of the AR-15" has a breakdown of various AR grips.

OK but the BCM is good even if I want to feel like I'm jacking off a horse?

OK, I want to be a cool kid to. Just ordered a BCM Mod 1, in FDE. Threw a Magpul MOE trigger guard and an H buffer on the order, since I wanted those anyway and BCM had everything I needed. Here's to hoping it gets here before this weekend, so I can install everything in the motel room the night before the Appleseed shoot. (Stupid Chicago, can't even work on my guns at home. With an AR, I can play with my upper all I want, but any work on a lower needs to happen offsite, since it is "the gun.")

How? I when I put mine on I modded the Lower so that I can use any grip.

Yes I took a big file to a scar..

But it worked out well.
