Okay, it seems that there is a round two with this firearm.
The trigger group has been redesigned and I just saw them on The Ammo Source website and just missed the preorder, yup Turtlewolf is actualy considering a 5.56 rifle!
Has anyone on here seen this?
Know who imported them?
Got on the short bus.........I mean list?
Thoughts?
I know I want one.

Interesting to see how this plays out given the fiasco with these rifles last time they were imported. It cost Canada Ammo a pretty penny.

Wait a few months. They'll drop to around 7-800 bucks most likely.

Frontier seems to still be taking pre-orders.

Yeah, I know!
I hope they come through as in the new year after tax season I'll probably be in the market for a new non-restricted camp rifle/SHTF firearm to replace my SKS rifles, Lee Enfield and Maverick 88 that have served admirably for ages and the 5.56x45 is a lot easier to shop for than my much loved 7.62x39.
I had considered the CZ858 for a few years but ammunition availability (actual high quality SP, I love the M43 steel core for what it is) keeps me from investing in a more expensive 7.62x39 platform.
Then again, aren't we supposed to be getting the Chinese Type 81 as well in 2013?

Thanks! My Google search didn't turn that one up!

Wouldn't the T81 be considered an AK variant?

Hell NO!!!
It is a short stroke system like the CZ858, takes different magazines but has an AK rotating bolt.
It IS NOT an AK at all, but a cross of long reciever (think Druganov), CZ style safety, short stroke system (CZ copy) and three lug rotating bolt (think AK) but it is a completly different firearm than the Norinco Type 56 AK and probably a lot nicer firearm by the old article I have in my magazine collection.

If all goes well tactical Imports is advertising a fourth quarter delivery for about $1100. So far I think they have the original barrel though which would make them restricted and not good for what I want. They'll be heavier and abit longer than the CZ858 but if they release a NR version I might consider it.

If these T97s do make it in as NR, I'd consider one for sure. Looks ike a fun little rifle. For those unaware of what these rifles are, here is what they look like (at least the originals - I assume this new model with the resdesigned trigger group looks similar on the outside).

Image

Made by Norinco, chambered in .223 Remington - it accepts AR mags so the 10 rd LAR mags can be used with it. Originally imported as non-restricted util the RCMP allegedly discovered that they could easily be converted to full auto at which time they because prohibited and all those in private hands were confiscated (I think the government paid $800 each for them to the owners). If this new redesign clears the RCMP testing lab, it could be a fun little rifle for around $800 - a bullpup for a fraction of what a Tavor would cost.

Well if it is any consolation this is the second act, the first time the RCMP (in closed testing, we didn't get to see the report) made the trigger group go fully automatic-that was in 2008.
Now the trigger group is changed so come tax season I'm going shopping for my first ever 5.56 (GAG) rifle, unless I decide I want the Rossi Ranch Hand in .357 or .44 with a full stock more.............

Yes they are actually. In that case you can safely use .223 Remington ammo.

Man ... Ive been trying to convince myself I don't need another firearm, let alone another caliber. Screw you guys. I've wanted a bullpup for about as long as I've had my PAL. 10 round magazines to boot ... My bank account hates you.

Yes they can, but with the current ban on the export of 5.56 chambers from the USA this is a bonus!

You're welcome! If it is any cosolation, I don't shoot .223/5.56 and am still a strong supporter of the 7.62x39.
